4,  I try to stay consistent when I'm off everything feels foreign... I currently have the Phil Mickleson press forward before I pull the trigger and putt.

1, What putter do you use and why?

Boccieri Heavy Putter C2-DF Original Women's;  because of the weight and the short shaft are perfect.

2, What are the specs of your putter?

31" long;  3* loft;  72* lie  Head weight 465g;  total weight 900g; bright SS with CNC milled face

3, How long have you been using the current putter in your bag?

4 years; found it in a used club bin at Golfsmith for $35

4, Do you commit to a specific method?

I use the Kenny B method; eyes over the ball, slight forward press, SBST; shorter backswing with slight acceleration to a longer follow-through

5, How do you rate your putting performance on a scale of 1 to 10?

8, only because there is room for improvement; good distance control, but could do better on L2R breakers.

Of course, I may be delusional.  :)

I was probably a 3 or 4 with my old putter.  Sometimes I was pretty good, other times I could 3-putt all day.  Once I picked up that putter, I knew it was the one for me; but that being said, I can NOT pick up any other putter and make a decent putt with it.  I try every time I go into a golf store; I migrate to the putter section.  I would love to have one of the putters listed on the other putter thread, but I know that I would be a terrible putter with any of them; at least until I got use to it.  But I have no confidence that I would ever be as good as I am with the Heavy.

1, What putter do you use and why?

Scotty Cameron Coronado

2, What are the specs of your putter?

35" 4* standard lie with a Best Grips Micro Perforated Pistol Grip

I have a strong arc putting stroke.

3, How long have you been using the current putter in your bag?

over 2 years

4, Do you commit to a specific method?

Yes, I am an advocate of "Instinct Putting."

  1. Stand behind the ball and determine where the ball must enter the hole.
  2. Follow the line the putt must follow back to the ball.
  3. Adjust right or left so that I am looking at target line.
  4. Step up to the putt along the target line.
  5. Focus now totally on speed, while imagining the ball following the line into the hole.
  6. Look at the hole while making the practice strokes.
  7. Now, focus on a specific point opposite the side the ball must enter.
  8. Look at the hole when making the stroke.

I tend to give the ball more of a pop, but sometimes on short putts I make a longer stroke and chase the ball to the hole. I care nothing about "the stroke". I am target oriented and that is all that matters. The stroke will take care of itself.

5, How do you rate your putting performance on a scale of 1 to 10?

9 at least on my home greens.

need practice on different greens.

You are in no way delusional.

It does not matter what you use as long as you putt well. There are some rally pretty putters out there and most people base their choice on looks and feel. whilst these are important factors, the most important is 'Performance'.

The market is moving towards heavier putters and there are more pros than you realise using backweighting. European tour average length is 33.25" with many at 31" or 32"

I look forward to your responses

1. Odyssey White Hot Pro #7. I saw so many pros, especially Euro guys, using them. Luke Donald was putting on a putting show for the ages with one a couple years ago for instance.

2. 35.5", 1 degree upright, standard loft, SuperStroke Ultraslim 1.0 grip. $120 total for a complete custom putter.

3. Two seasons.

4. Method: not really. I was fit using the Ping ap years ago, and used those specs when ordering. It identified me as straight back, straight through, which I've used face balanced putters for some time. I try to keep my hands up high like Steve Stricker, and the longer shaft length actually puts my dominant eye (right) in a better spot for lining up my putts. These specs have worked well.

5. I'll give myself a 7. Definite room for improvment, but its been getting better for a while.

I look forward to putting now.

1, What putter do you use and why? Strong arc SeeMore M3 mallet - RifleScopeTech really works for me - and I love the looks of it.

2, What are the specs of your putter? 34" - 4deg loft - 70deg lie.

3, How long have you been using the current putter in your bag? 1 year

4, Do you commit to a specific method? I don't have a specific green-reading method (though I do need one). Re my stroke, I follow a 2:1 tempo and simply hide the little red SeeMore RST dot.

5, How do you rate your putting performance on a scale of 1 to 10? Could be much better - 6/10. I rarely 3-putt, but hardly ever 1-putt (though that may be more of a reflection of proximity to the hole with approaches ;) )

Some excellent responses already and although some aspects are not surprising, the details are very revealing. Keep em coming please! This is extremely revealing and useful information. I also like the fact that aim point is getting more popular and accessible.

I recommend the excellent book 'Every shot counts'  by Mark Broadie for anyone looking for more useful information on how to lower their score and decipher statistical information.

Ideally 100+ responses would give enough information to establish a reliable general review & summary

3, How long have you been using the current putter in your bag?

3 years. Refinished once

4, Do you commit to a specific method?

No specific method. With much tinkering, have found the stroke that works best for me. Eyes outside the ball. 75% grip pressure in right hand. Reverse overlap. Slight forward press. Go.

5, How do you rate your putting performance on a scale of 1 to 10?

I'd give myself an 8. Maybe a 9 if we are on slick greens.

OK Stuart, I have to ask now. Can you give us a little more information about where this survey is leading? I'm curious about your objective and how you intend to use the data. If you feel that might taint the results, I guess I can wait. NOT!

Sure Kenny,

As a putter designer & developer of putter fitting and coaching systems, I am very interested in how seriously people approach their putters and technique. There are patterns which show up and if there is enough response then I can gauge what the trend is and assess how people react to specific factors.

For example, a large percentage of putters which have been shortened to less than 33" are mallet putters and are heavier and/or backweighted. This is also a common occurrence on tour.

Of the 90 putters which I fitted last year not a single one came out at industry standard (34", 35", combined with a 71° lie angle). I believe that 95% of the result for a short putt is determined before the putter starts moving. This is where a properly fitted putter and better information would help improve performance.

I will reveal more later but I really need more responses to back it up.

At this time, I'm only able to practice putting indoors and I'm wavering between 2 putters, so I'm going to wait until I can actually putt on real greens before submitting a response.

I went for my first putter fitting a few weeks ago. It was more of a retrofit since I love my Ketsch. When I went in, it was right around 35". He recommended cutting it down to 32.5", which I did. When I go back we're going to mess around with some counterweights and check the lie angle. Do you have a recommendation for the best way to check for proper lie angle on a putter?

I went for my first putter fitting a few weeks ago. It was more of a retrofit since I love my Ketsch. When I went in, it was right around 35". He recommended cutting it down to 32.5", which I did. When I go back we're going to mess around with some counterweights and check the lie angle. Do you have a recommendation for the best way to check for proper lie angle on a putter?

Checking the existing lie of a putter is easy if you have a loft/lie machine. If you do not then a standard lie angle is 71 degrees and comparing your putter to this will give you an idea of what the lie angle is. If you set both putters flat on the ground and line up the tips of the shafts then check the difference at the grip end, on a standard grip size, one grip width is approx 2 degrees in lie angle.
