Did you order OEM through club champion or let them build them and pay full retail like they charge? If they built them, they disassemble stock clubs and build them and likely selected the ones closest to the weight slope so they don't have to add as much weight

Yes, purchased from CC and they assembled. Your answer leads me to believe this is not unusual, and actually beneficial in some cases.

I also asked this same question on the “Club Champion” thread in MGS forum. The opinions on that thread (sorry I posted the same thing in two separate locations) indicate the belief that the serial numbers should match throughout the set.

Could you explain the “weight slope” reference, in layman's terms?

I have a ...concern.

I just received my Iron set from Club Champion tonight. I was fit for Mizuno JPX 900 Forged with Steelfiber I95 S. (Exactly the Iron I wanted... it worked out).

The issue (which may be nothing to give a second thought to) is the serial numbers do not match throughout the set. All match with the exception of the 6 iron and 9 iron (those match each other BUT not the rest of the set).

Is this unusual or cause for concern?

If it is...why?

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks

Don

Generally, when building clubs, you want constant weight gaps. It's generally 8-9 grams difference as you go through the set. Longest iron is the lightest, next one will be 8-9 grams heavier, and on and on. This is to account for the clubs getting shorter so the flex remains consistent. You want the same gear effect (physics) on each shaft to ensure flex remains consistent

Why you dump the epic pros? Did you go graphite in the MBs?

Dumped them because they just were not for me. I struggled with them on the course in terms of ball flight and touch shots. Full shots they were just great but just couldn't get along with them. The other main reason is someone gave me a price that I couldn't say no to and I got a good price on the Apex MBs. I actually went with the older version from 2015 instead of the new version. Got better strike numbers with the older model and love the look (I hate chrome on anything). My fitter had a brand new set that was shafted with KBS Tour 120x that he put sensicore inserts in. I have a set of Steelfiber 110x shafts that can go in for no charge if I don't get along with the KBS shafts. I know I shouldn't try and play steel but it is what I prefer to control the flight. At my club with the amount of wind we have it is essential.

Figured it was a good upgrade from his Olimar Trimetal steel-shafted 3 wood

Good guess! He'll be happy, first with retiring which will take him a while to get used to, second his new tools of “grass destruction”
