I am a Physical Therapist and can confirm. Lighter flex allows you to decrease the rotational forces applied to your spine . Newer hybrids are also helpful for this

Alright Mcasey, I will use you as the expert who recommended the change, as far as new hybrids, hummmmmmmmm.

There's a reason that slower swing speeds use a more flexible shaft, so the shaft can do more of the work to make up distance so you don't have to swing (and twist your spine) as hard..... it's physics!!

Let her know that it was either that, or super expensive graphite shafts, and now you're set with new clubs and the knowledge and confidence of new clubs.... so win-win for physical AND mental health

As for the hybrids.... people tend to hit them better (might wanna heck that against the recent blog posts though) and they make it easier to get the ball in the air, so less practice (stress) on the body to get the long irons to work, so you're actually saving your back.

Flex is more about timing and load than swing speed. Slow swing speeds can require stuffer shafts if they have a quick transition for back to forward swing. Just as a fast smooth swing may need less flex. The physics is about the potential energy that you load the shaft with.

Bingo. That, and there's no universal standard for flex across shaft brands

At my lesson today I was finally able to check the spin off my wedges. Yep, 1000+ rpms too low... Time for new wedges. Ugh. I called Edel and they're making me new ones. They even took care of me on price since I'm just swapping heads and don't need shafts. Hopefully I can get them built before the City Championship!!!

Handsome tees indeed, 'divot.

Since I tee my ball so low, I usually look for broken ones strewn about the tee box and use them.

Yeah, I'm a used tee scrounge as well.  I found one of these flag tees this past winter and really liked it.  It was really special since our foursome was comprised of two Yanks and two Canadians. I tried to find some of these tees with the Canadian flag as I was going to buy a pack and give them to those guys this next winter season.

Picked up a Ping G 17 degree hybrid as I prefer hybrids over fairway woods.   I'm much more consistent with my hybrids.  It's funny how some folks prefer fairway woods and others love hybrids.  Different strokes for different folks.  :D

Edit Update!:   I have to update this thread with another pick up!  :)   I sold my Callaway Steelhead irons today and picked up a Ping G fairway 3 wood. I'm a hybrid man to the bone however I'm taking one more shot (I've said this multiple times  ) with a fairway in the bag.   Let's see if the big "G" can finally win my heart?

That's so true.  I've hit hybrids and thought that they were fine. I even bought a couple of Cleveland Halos a while back.

I just couldn't find a long term place for them in my bag.

Not as comfortable as a driving iron on a scary driving hole.

Not as easy as a high loft fairway wood to hit over a stand of trees.

But lots of my playing partners love them because the advent of hybrids really did help their games.

Good luck with your new club, Gray.

Placed an order for a Shot Scope V2 this weekend. I'm not 100% sure I will be keeping it past the trial period, but if nothing else I'm hoping to get some in depth stats on my irons for when I get fitted for a new set. As soon as the Mizuno 919s are available to demo I'll be heading to the local Club Champion to try a ton of things out.

What we need here, Mr. Badger, is a nice GPS versus rangefinder debate.

I'm a GPS guy, but only because they're less cumbersome.

Knowing the right yardage isn't going to get me close anyway.

It's not so much the correct yardage I'm looking for; I already have a GPS and rangefinder for that. The Shot Scope will hopefully tell me more about my miss tendencies. Surprisingly I don't hit every GIR, so finding out more about those misses will theoretically lead to a better starting point for future club purchases.

Well, the bag is set for at least the rest of the year. Needed a little more gap between my Cleveland Classic 5-wood (21*) and my 23* Ft. Worth so I found this NOS 1983 Macgregor Muirfield 4-wood which matches my 1983 Macgregor Nicklaus M09 Driver perfectly. Same True Temper Dynamic Stiff shaft and everything.

Has never hit a ball and still has the inspection sticker on the bottom. Best part, got them both for less than the price of 2 dozen Pro V1's.
