Really debating on bettinardi bb39 putter...was fitted last year wasn’t there for a putter and my current odyssey 1W is great and I don’t even like mallet putters but getting fitted this was a club I stood over and pitted less than 2 seconds drained all 10 putts (granted it was straight.)

deals on eBay right now...can someone talk me off the ledge or push me over....

Been a New Decade guy for a long time, but may give these a try for something a bit softer.  Have you always used them or is this something new?

Something new to try.

1. I love the color scheme and that's what caught my eye when I saw some irons on eBay with them.

2. I researched them and liked what I read so I got them to try.

What have I gone and done now?..🤦‍♂️

So about a week ago I posted about my trade for a Callaway steelhead XR 3+ wood. Usually when I have an itch for a particular club, I find it, get it, and close the door.

I was searching around for a driver for a buddy and just couldn't help myself when I found this.. bought it for $20 with the plastic still on the head. It came with a Mits Kuro Kage blue 60g "made for" S flex. Took them both to the launch monitor. Nearly identical #'s. I really like the Adams at address and seemed a tad more forgiving. Only thing I didn't quite like was that while smooth, the shaft was a bit whippy for my liking.

So last night I murdered it out with my Pro Force Black that I used to have in my driver.

Sorry folks.. when I can get similar performance out of a brand new 5 year old club for $20.. as a $250 club from today's market..

Bought a grip remover and a caliper measuring tool. Grip ho-ing here I come! Already took off my standard sized Tour Velvet from my driver and replaced it with a MCC Plus 4 Undersized that was on a wedge shaft that was laying around. First time took about 5 minutes to get the grip off. Second time, it was easy-peezy.

My wife and I drove to Chattanooga to hit up a nursery to feed her plant addiction and on the way back stopped at the local DSG to check it out since they moved location into the mall. I walked out with a new pair of golf shoes after she talked me in to them. I think she was feeling guilt after spending money on plants the last couple of weeks and wanted to feel better about it. Got a pair of Adidas CP Traxion at a deal. They were listed at $79 and I got them for $59.

My second purchase was made after we got back into town and stopped at the ReStore. I've been wanting to pick up a bladed club since I've seen numerous threads about traditional vs SGI clubs and wanted to see if they held merit with this high capper. I initially found a Ben Hogan 8 iron and was going to pick it up, but I looked and saw a Wilson Staff Fluid Feel in a 6 iron. Then I found another in the set, and another, and another. I found a complete set 2-PW! At $2 a club I just bought them all. 20200530_183852-01.jpeg20200530_183114-01.jpeg20200530_183138-01.jpeg

They need a little TLC, they have rust spots on the heads and shafts. I'm actually going to try my hand at cleaning and buffing then out to see if I can make them prettier. The groups are in surprisingly good shape and still have some tack to them. 20200530_183236.jpeg

I'm going to have to give it a little bit before I get out and hit them as the local driving range is still suffering from tornado damage. I took the 2 iron out and looked down at it and I think I'm going to have nightmares.

20200530_183950-01.jpeg

I'm hoping to play an all iron round with them during the Hard Rock Challenge because I strangely like punishing myself. I think it might be bad.

I like using both, I have a pair of FJ's that have spikes I use in wet conditions and for SuperSpeed. I also have some Pumas that are spikeless, so I thought I'd get another pair to switch back and forth to keep the wear down on them.

Good ground contact is important, I actually remember my first set of golf shoes had metal spikes. They felt like you could walk straight up a tree with them. They definitely had some grip, except on concrete where they were just a little slick.

I was actually surprised to find a full set, I was just looking for one club just to play around with and I just kept finding these. They have good grips and are starting to shine up nicely. I've got to remove some rust from the shafts and a little from the heads and they'll be beautiful.

I guess it was robbery since I was wearing my prescription sunglasses and a mask. 😂

When you catch one dead square there’s nothing better. When you hit off center, feel and results go downhill quickly.

I tend to make consistent good contact on the face of most of the clubs especially my irons. 4/8 irons are my go to’s so I am confident if I had one in my hand I would hit them well on the face my concern is my tendency to have a steep swing, I need some bounce I don’t don’t collect pelts. I still want to hit them thiugg just to see lol

I started out on blades, my brother introduced me to the game in the early 90's by buying me a set at a yard sale. They only had the 3,5,7,9 irons and 1,3,5 woods. I didn't know any better and I actually hit decent 3 irons off the tee because I couldn't hit a real wood for the life of me. Between my desire to find that set (I think it's in the building behind mom's old house, but spiders). I own the property and a mobile home that's back there and moved the mother-in-law in there, so I can search it when it gets cold and the spiders all go to h#'ll where they belong.

Great pickup with those Wilson Staffs. I’ve cleaned up a lot of vintage iron sets and the best method for me has been Bar Keepers Friend and 0000 steel wool.

Apply the BKF liberally to the head, scrub head the steel wool with a circular motion and then rinse with water. They will look like new. Also works great on any shaft pitting.

Post some after pics. They will look great.

Lol, Thank you for that. I like it!

I should also mention your clubs are from 1987-88. They were the top offering from Wilson that year. The design harkened back to their 1958-59 Dynapowered irons which I think were their best irons ever made.

You should have a very good playing set there.

Thank you for the information, I have been meaning to look them up and was wondering when they were made. I hit the 8 iron last night with foam balls and the results were fairly decent. I'm completely ecstatic I found them and it should be fun to try them out. I'll definitely post up pictures when I get them cleaned up, I'm planning on running out and picking up some BKF once I throw supper on the smoker.

I just received and installed a Superstroke Wrist Lock putter grip. I installed it like a normal pistol grip since that was the reason I purchased it. The end is a more pronounced pistol shape which feels better in my hand. I did hold it the wristlock way before installing it but felt it would require playing the ball even with my front foot or an incredible amount of forward press to work.
The grip itself is 3" longer than a normal Superstroke and heavier but I really dig the feel while carpet rolling it.

Also I believe my previous Superstroke traxion grip is fake. It feels completely different than this one. Almost like slick plastic if that makes sense. IMG_20200526_175447499.jpeg.64f2878f875b7ceac4ca6ae23edc0943.jpegIMG_20200526_175501957.jpeg.ab343bafe24539091b195d3a39b37977.jpeg

A little update on this grip. Everything felt great carpet rolling it as well as last night on the practice green. Unfortunately this morning was not as successful. The swing weight with this grip is drastically lighter than the normal superstroke pistol grip. Duh it weighs more so obviously that is the case. What I didn’t understand is that it felt lighter this morning than last night. I’m hoping it was just me getting inside my own head but I’m gonna pick up a couple heavier weights for my Scotty to experiment with to see if I can iron things out.

Quick hits:
3” longer but doesn’t make your putter longer so you will need to extend your putter to use it the way it is intended.
Keep an eye on the weight as this may or may not effect the swing weight depending on your current grip.
To use this as intended you will need to have quite a bit of forward press or play the ball further forward in your stance.

I had an impulse buy last night for a new 2019 set of P790's with C tapers. It was $960 shipped. I couldn't pass it up.

Hopefully I'll get a decent amount for my current set of 4-AW so I don't get hammered from the significant other. Club hoeing is a curse

Probably the 5 and 6 iron, too. 🤣 I'm probably not the best ball striker out there. Probably hit a lot of stingers ( burning some worms) with the long irons.

I'm working right now to shine them up, as recommended by @deejaid I picked up some BKF and have so far done the 9 iron. Put a little polish on them and they are beautiful.

I know this isn't the thread for this, but I wanted to update how the Wilson's are coming along. I'll probably create another thread to update from here on out once I finish up the cleaning and get them to the course.

I took the 2 iron out today with some foam balls just to see if I could hit it. I had a couple of decent shots with a little fade bias. I was standing a little above the ball since there's a premium on flat spots in my yard. I did top and chunk a few and I believe with some range time I might be able to improve on it. I will say that looking down on it that it's scary. I didn't grasp the smaller head size until today. 20200601_190814-01.jpeg.c1f74665edfd85ae052fff2829f7bee2.jpeg

I then took it inside and put a nice shine on it removing the rust and film from the head and shaft. I then soaked it in soapy water and worked on the grooves.

I see you with the Callaway hitting mat. Mine has taking an absolute beating and keeps on ticking. Love that thing. If you just got it I would consider taking out the tee placement. I destroyed mine early on.
