Grand Stranded
I'm putting an end to my "mallet experiment." I've been trying to get comfortable with an Evnroll 5.0 putter for about a month or so on the practice greens, but it just wasn't for me. I never got used to the look, the grip felt huge, and I struggled with distance control (always feeling like I had to work too hard to get it to the hole). I went back to my comfort zone today, trading the Evnroll in under the PGASS playability for a Scotty Cameron Newport 2.0. I just feel more comfortable with a blade. I thought the extra forgiveness a mallet might bring would help me, but I'm now 0-2 with them (I also gave a Cameron something or other neon monstrosity a brief try earlier this summer). Putting is the best part of my game, and I have to stop messing around trying to fix what isn't broken. The Newport 2.0 putters have always been my favorite, and I'm hoping to ride this one for a long time. I have two other putters I can't ever imagine getting rid of, the Odyssey Stroke Lab Double Wide (phenomenal putter) is plenty stable for when I want something different to mix it up, and my custom built Yes! Tracy has a permanent spot in my second bag I keep up on Long Island. Notice the trend? All 3 are variations of the Anser style putters... why do my eyes always wander? The purpose of EvnRoll grooves its to make ball speed more consistent across the face. Miss heel or toe and it goes the same distance as center strikes. Okay, now I get the idea behind the groove technology. My question would be does that tech really help me if I have to feel like I'm hitting my putt harder than normal to get it to the hole? I'm not comfortable debating this beyond that one question though, because I've always been one who prefers a blade putter and the ER5 is a mallet. I'll never forget when the Stroke Lab putters came out about 3 years ago. I was in a small local shop which is very highly regarded for their custom fitting work. I tried what I think was called the Sabertooth(?) version first, and I knew the fitter was looking at me and thinking "...and this guy thinks he's a decent putter?" I mean I couldn't sniff the hole, LOL. I was really embarrassed and wanted to crawl under a rock. Then I saw the Double Wide model, picked it up and started making everything. Suddenly I looked like a poor man's Brad Faxon. My point is, I'm not trying to knock Evnroll, Maybe if I'd bought a different model I'd be here singing their praises. What I can say though is the 5.0 wasn't for me. No harm, no foul though. I had a gift card and took a flyer based on the great reviews I'd read on the putter. With the 90 day playability deal I got to scratch an itch. The Newport 2.0 is like an old friend.. something I'm always comfortable having around. cnosil
1 hour ago, Grand Stranded said: Okay, now I get the idea behind the groove technology. My question would be does that tech really help me if I have to feel like I'm hitting my putt harder than normal to get it to the hole? I'm not comfortable debating this beyond that one question though, because I've always been one who prefers a blade putter and the ER5 is a mallet. Not looking for a debate either; just stating how the groove design works. EvnRoll does have blades, but when it comes to any golf club you have to figure out what works for you. You have developed a particular "feel" for distance control and any putter that changes that will probably give you the same impression. If you don't want to change then no EvnRoll putter will work for you. Speed control isn't just about blade vs. mallet so the need to change your stroke length could happen with any putter you pick up. DiscipleofPenick
Bought these new Nike's spikeless. They look sharp and I've always loved the red. I just got rid of my Adidas Tour360s and replaced them with these. I couldn't walk 18 without getting blisters on the back of my ankles/heels. Super disappointed as I was an Adidas guy back to the OG 360s.Take Dead Aim tony@CIC, fozcycle, xOldBenKenobiX and 4 others 6 1 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star
