What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)

I haven’t been able to play for a couple of weeks because of back issues, but it looks like when I get back out there (hopefully next month) the top of my bag will look completely different.

Back in February, I ordered a Titleist TS2 16.5* 4 wood, and matching 19* & 21* TS2 hybrids, all with Kuro Kage shafts. They are going to finally arrive tomorrow, and I’m pretty excited.

I got a great deal on these through that DD place, but now I have a few decisions to make. I’m going to give the Epic Max a place in my bag, but I’m not sure whether or not to sell my old friend, the G400 Max. Same thing with my Rogue 3 wood (the best 15* I’ve ever owned). I’m leaning toward keeping both, especially the 3 wood, as this will be the first 4 wood I’ve ever gamed, and who knows?

I’m 99% going to sell my Rogue X hybrids (18, 20, 23) for the following reasons.

1. I’m loving my 0211 5 iron

2. The adjustability with the TS2’s should enable me to use two clubs in place of 3 (let’s say I go 19 & 22 or 18 & 21 for example).

I should probably just cut the cord with all of them, after all, there’s a reason I looked to replace them. Still it’s hard to do... this is me becoming attached to clubs I’ve had for about 4 years, and second thoughts about not having them around, I guess.

And let's just add to it for the day.....Going to give the RTX 4 wedges a try.  Happy with my current SM8 54* so that will go head to head.

Do not love the Jaws MD5 58* that I have, but I do at least know my distances with it, so I'll put that head to head as well.

Just found too good of deal on these.  3 wedges for $141 bucks in mint condition.  Sometimes being a Lefty can have it's perks.

.. When I was on staff with a major OEM I received irons with the 8 iron 1.5* strong and the 7 iron 1.5* weak so there was 1* of difference in loft. Had I not checked and adjusted them I would have been very confused as to why I was hitting my 8 and 7 very similar distances.

Hmm. Now I may have to get that done also - my 8i seems strong and my 9i seems weak, ie. a larger than expected distance gapping. Hmmm.

Traded my DI for this oddity. Likely not holding onto it as I will likely get cash considerations in this three way trade.

If it's as good as my 3 wood, that won't be happening. Jason and I had a good talk and if there's anything I need done to it, he told me to just call him.

It's going to be strange for sure.  With my short clubs I'm more on plane and it's less of an issue, but driver I have some OTT issues, even if they're not nearly as big as they used to be.  I think it's driven from a takeaway that goes too far inside and sets me up for failure in that regard.

Time will tell, but I'm already allowing myself a break on the swing speed early in the season if this takes some adjustment.  We've got some rain in the forecast the next day and half or so... but the day 1 and 2 drills I can comfortably do inside, which is probably a good way to force myself to not skip ahead! haha

How long have you had one and been using it?

I've found day 1 and day 2 to be extremely valuable drills.  I know shallowing the club is supposed to be one of the main ideas of the Planemate, but the day 1 work really helps avoid an excessively inside takeaway, and I feel the day 2 work really helps with pitch shots. Just a great training aid overall.

It’s been exactly 0 days! Delivery coming today.

I will say that I’ve tried to mimic the drills for day 1-3 paying extra attention to my set up and posture and maintaining the angles. But I know it’s not the same as feeling the tension with the band.

Ah, got it.  Well, you'll be glad you did.  And you've already said it but don't skip ahead.  I'd also say more is not better.  Martin recommends 30 reps for each drill and while it's not a lot of tension on the band (if you set it up correctly), if you work past that I would think you could get fatigued, at which point you're likely just ingraining bad feels and positions.

Let us know how you like it in the training aid Planemate thread!

Yeah 30 never seems like a lot... and even with SuperSpeed it’s so tempting to take a few extra swings or go pull out the driver and take some but I force myself not too. I know I’m pretty gassed at the end of those so no good is going to come from them.

I’ll be over in the planemate thread soon!

Bought a Ping G425 Max driver last Friday. I didn't need a new driver but, really, I haven't needed a new driver since I went from persimmon to a King Cobra metal driver 20 plus years ago.  Since then I've probably gone through 20 drivers I didn't need.

14 of the following:

Ping G430 Max 10.5 degree

Callaway 2023 Big Bertha 3 wood set to 17 degrees

Cobra F9 Speedback 7/8 wood set at 23.5 degrees

Callaway Epic Max 11 wood

Ping Eye 2 BeCu 2-SW

Mizuno 923 JPX HM HL 6-GW

Hogan sand wedge 56 degree bent to 53

Maltby M Series+ 54 degree

Ping Glide 3.0 Eye2 58 degree

Ping Glide 3.0 60 degree

Evnroll ER2

Ping Sigma 2 Anser

Cheap Top Flite mallet putter from Dick's, currently holding down first place in the bag

TaylorMade Mini Spider

Bridgestone XS

Would love to hear the reviews once you’ve got a few rounds in with it! What shaft did you go with?

Bought a new grip for the putter. Thought about making my wrists/hands a little quieter and went with a super stroke your 3.0. Early results are positive. Missing putts because of my lines vs hands being overactive
