What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)

I recently swapped out my entire bag lol. Replaced some old wedges and got a 50 and 54 Sm8 to go with my 58 Sm8.  Swapped out my old TM R9 TP 3w to a TM Sim Ti 3w.  Had some Apex Pro 2019 irons I bought end of last year that I finally started playing. Thought I needed them bent but didn’t. They’re replacing my 2007 X-forged irons. Replaced a TM 3 hybrid with a Titleist Tsi2 18* hybrid. Replaced an old Scotty Studio 3.5 putter with an Odyssey Ten S.  Then said what the heck and bought a Cobra Radspeed to replace a Callaway Rogue Subzero.

The two best swaps were the putter and 3w.  I couldn’t line up my Scotty to save my life. The 3w is a little longer but also has a stiffer shaft and I no longer hit pulls like I used to. The driver was the worst decision lol. I might sell it

You guys might laugh, but I ordered an Odyssey chipper. My chipping is not terrible, but I think this will help my game.

Honestly I think it’s more impressive that you haven’t already ordered one in the past.

My dad uses one of the square strike wedges and loves it.  I think it’s definitely more useful around the green or if there’s green to work with, but he swears by it.

I had a Cleveland Smart Sole sand wedge for bunkers, and used that until I was confident with a normal sand wedge out of the bunkers.

Think the chipper should stay in the bag for a while though, I have too many chip and two putts. Need more chip and one putts. Even if it goes out of the bag, will save it for when I play at Bandon.

Yes it is. But I am going to modify it. Going to put in a graphite putter shaft in it, either a Fujikura or Accra, still deciding which. And then going to put on a Jumbomax grip. Would love if I could put a putter grip on it, but that wouldn't be legal.

My grandpa used to use one like this for over 30 years.  He was deadly around the greens, but actually went as far back as 120 yards to use this thing.  I believe it had similar loft to an 8 iron roughly  so he'd play bump and runs from further out.  I've seen him hit a lot of hole outs with this club. Hopefully it's kind to you.

Should be good for me. I am already a bump and run player, just looking for some incremental improvement in my bump and run play. Also, should simplify things for me because I will bump and run anything between a 5 iron and PW, will now try to bump and run with just the chipper.

The question becomes, which shaft should i put in. Options are:

- Fujikura MC Smooth
- Fujikura MC Firm
- Accra FXP400
- Mitsubishi Diamana putter 1.0

I've been looking to update my hybrid after i cracked the face on the range recently of my 3 hybrid, I was worried the same thing might happen to my 2 hybrid.  Long story short, I received a new 818 H2 3 hybrid from Titleist, but while it was getting exchanged, I didn't have the need for it whatsoever.  Thus I sold that club and used proceeds to buy the new TSI3 2 hybrid to update my current 818 H2 19*.   I know that the TSI3 was lower in the most wanted hybrid rankings, but I've always loved the shape and performance of the 818 h2.  When I had a hybrid fitting a couple years ago - nothing came close to the distance and accuracy that I was getting with this.  Hoping the new version is just an update on this.  I got it with the Hzrdus Smoke RDX shaft which I like, but will go back to the Tensei Blue if results change too much.

For what its worth,  I really liked the Titleist hybrids during most wanted testing.   I thought they were some of the best.

What balls are you trying out and what are you finding? Just curious as I am doing the same thing with Chromesoft/X, MTB-X, Pro-V1, Maxfli Tour, Srixon Z Star XV, and Vice Pro Plus

Have to try to remember now. I believe it was: Tour B RX, Chrome Soft, Pro V1, Tour Response, Q Star Tour, Z Star, and Vice Pro.  Based on the limited testing I've been able to do, I would lean to the Z Star, Vice Pro, and Pro V1 in that order. I could play the Q Star Tour and not feel like I'm giving up a lot of performance, but it's realistically around the same price as the Vice Pro so there's no reason not to go with that if price is a factor. I haven't tried the Snell options yet and those will probably be the ones I put the winner up against for comparison. I honestly can't really explain why, but the Tour B RX and Chrome Soft just don't appeal to me. I have gotten a few weird reactions on some shots with those two.

I am kind of a putter junkie and heard about some unique Odyssey putters that were available.  Picked up this Odyssey RSX Milled Collection #2.   Can't find much history or info as this model was never a retail release.    Putter is naked and Anser 2 style and not the Anser style like the RSX 001.     Have also seen pictures of 001s with no sightlines,  #7 style without line or dots on the topline, and different color Toulon.

I got one too!  I'm not the biggest fan of the 2 style compared to the 1 but since it's more rare I snatched one up.

I would eventually like to try a Bridgestone ball as well but I have been able to play the Chromesoft, Snell MTB-X, Z Star XV and Left Dot. Biggest differences I noticed were the Chromesoft being noticeably softer (its nice but way down on my priorities list), all drives I hit with the Snell MTB-X seemed to be straighter (could be a coincidence but I didn't have one drive that was too far off the fairway), Z Star XV had less release for irons, and Left Dot definitely has a lower trajectory but FLEW when I got a hold of it. I honestly didn't dislike any of them but if you made me pick one out of those bunch right now, the Snell MTB-X felt great and it seemed like I was playing on the fairway way more often with it!

Going to do a epsom salt test, see what % of these balls actually only have "cosmetic defects that in no way affect performance"

For those interested, I did this with a dozen of the Chromesoft and Chromesoft X outs, with each box there was 1 ball that had core centricity issues from the epsom salt test, and 1 ball that had some sort of noticeable cover deficiency (dent/scratch) that would lead me to not play them. The other 10 in both dozen would be balls I would play then, obviously limited sample size but not too bad for ~ half the cost of a brand new pack!

How bad were the centricity issues? I was reading on the epsom salt test, and the time the ball takes to return to "marked side" up could describe how badly out of center the core is.

Tiger is the GOAT, change my mind.

I don't think that they were egregiously bad but the ball would smoothly return to the same spot up every time after using the index finger to lightly spin the ball floating. It wasn't abrupt but the ball would take a few spins afterwards and the sharpie dot I made would always return to the top. Good enough to knock around chipping in the yard or use on a water hole for fun but certainly wouldn't use them on holes that counted or for true putting practice.

I've eyeballed the Adidas hoodies several times, just don't know how well I'd like a pull over. Personally, I'm a huge fan of a full zip hoodie, doesn't choke me. You'll have to post a pic when it arrives.
