Found a set of PX Rifle Flighted shafts to try out for funzies. Could find little to no info on them but basically picked up the set (4-PW) for a trade for a club that I've had lying around and to me wasn't worth trying to sell. So I basically got them for free.

I've been wanting to get a rifle set in the 115g range to try. I've been using DG 105 300s shafts for a couple years and need to add some feeling back to the swing.

I've also been using these Champkey grips from Amazon. 13 grips + tape for $30. So far I'm really impressed. We'll see how the quality holds up but so far they feel fantastic and are pretty tacky but just soft enough for a full rubber grip.

Let me know how you like the grips. They look good and the price is great compared to buying CP2 Pro's.

So the great thing is that 1 order gripped my 2 sets of irons. Between both sets I have 4 range sessions and 1 round and I'd say that these really feel and perform great. Not just "for the money" but in general as a good set of grips. Full disclaimer that these are full rubber and no chord. But I've always preferred chordless anyhow so they're right up my alley.

The 2 areas of concern that will hopefully be concluded are overall durability, and tackiness with wet or sweaty hands.

As for how they feel, I'd say they're softer and tackier than CP2's, tour Velvets, Crosslines, etc. I wouldn't necessarily say they're "tacky" as in sticky but they're definitely very grippy.. if that makes sense. For the past 2 years I've played Lamkin Sonar Pros almost exclusively. I would say the Champkeys sit between the Lamkins and tour velvets as far as softness. And are very similar in the amount of grip/tack to the Lamkins.

I ordered standard size and feel like these are in line with what a standard grip should be. I usually tape my grips with 1 full layer, 1 at 2/3 from the bottom, and a final at 1/3 from the bottom as to build a slight taper reduction. The grips stretched right over the top without issue.

Here is a picture of the top side of the grips. There is an X pattern with some more aggressive grip contact points that seems to fit perfectly into where the palm and thumbs hold the club.

1206211724a.jpg.48311955ff0ba3268ea7a9b9ce49b45b.jpg

Lastly, and this might not be a big deal to some, but it's always been a bugger of mine is that the grips don't emit an overly strong rubber odor. Some grips smell horrible and leave behind a strong smell of rubber on your hands. These don't and I really like that.

Time will tell but maybe I'll do an unofficial review after I've had a good 10 or so rounds. So far I'm thinking these are a great find!

I had been doing well until today. I have wanted a new putter upgrading from my old Taylor made spider tour. Luckily Taylor made had a sale for the spider ex, on sale and free shipping! I closed the browser a few times but I figured it makes more sense to buy one now with the discounts than later. Plus it allows me to continue to fill out my wife’s golf bag, when we go out together I’ll use an old 2 ball gang and she uses the old spider because she likes how lightweight it is. Let’s just say that how I am justifying the purchase!😂

I didn’t buy it but did trade the Scotty 12.5 for a Bettinardi QB6 Copper putter. During my carpet rolling I could never get comfortable with the 12.5.  I think I have gotten so used to a mid mallet that the 12.5 seemed enormous to my eye.

The QB 6 should move a good stop gap until spring when I get A bettinardi Inovai 8 slant

Funny how that works. I have a Spider X that I wanted to sell/trade last summer until my wife got a hold of it. It's now a permanent fixture in her golf bag.

Finally got a new bag! Stacked a couple gift cards and a deal, only had to put down $80 of my own! Old one was literally falling apart at the seams, so it was long overdue. Really like the Hoofer Lite after my initial impressions.IMG_20211201_075649479.jpg.6caf34b207bb0efeb576faf68ee407be.jpg

Not really a club ho (maybe?) But everything in my bag has changed in the last 18 months.

First, Maltby TS1s to replace my Snake Eyes 675B's. Then the TSW wedges to replace my snake eyes wedges. Then, fought 3w a bit until I put a G425LST in the bag. Been struggling with driver (Maltby STW, 2017 TM M2, OG TM SIM), so got fitted for the TSI3.

I rotate some hybrids in and out but am now playing the 2i that I reshafted a few months ago.

Got tired of 2 chips on holes because I was going under the ball with the TSW wedges, especially in soft conditions. Got the zipcores within the last few weeks. Feel really good about everything now.

I'm not even sure if this is the company's original design or a foundry catalogue piece.. honestly I don't really care as long as it suits my eye and meets my needs. So far aesthetically, there's not 1 thing about these that doesn't work for me. Im extremely happy with the look and quality so far. Paint fill is all tight and clean and there are no noticeable forging blemishes or missed steps in the finishing process.

They're all glued up and should be getting them loft/lie checked tomorrow.

Honestly I would say that the TS-1's are more similar to the 770's. They're a smaller profile all around than the 790's with a thinner top line and sole. Definitely less offset too.

My buddy plays the 770's and we've done the comparisons. They're nearly identical in shape. The Maltbys might be a hair longer from heel to toe but are shorter from top to bottom. The Maltbys definitely have more bounce and have better turf interaction.

somewhere on here I did a comparison and actually saw better numbers all around with the TS-1's and imo they feel better

Heck man, we could meet up at the range sometime and I could let you give the Maltbys a run just to see if you like them.

... Thanks. We should definitely hook up some time this winter. I was thinking of putting together a tee time for MGS members, not an outing just a chance for al of us to meet each other and play some golf at Aguila. With the cost of rounds in the $100-$250 range to take advantage of snowbirds, Aguila is my go to course at $23 twilite with a Sr city card.

... I am guessing DG in S+ wouldn't give me much information for my swing since I play Steelfiber 95's in R flex. It would be nice to eye ball the TS-1's in person though. I have never been happier with a set of irons as I am with these Cobra's but always nice to have a more forgiving distance set to go with my Z Blades on the other end of the forgiveness scale.

Probably way less than your 790s. These are certainly players clubs. I have always preferred smaller heads, either blades, or cavities. I love these irons. Feel, looks, everything is good.

I recently bought a pair of winter golf gloves.  I cannot find the pair I bought a few years ago, and here in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it is getting COLD!

I have not bought it, but I have a driving iron on my Christmas Wish List.  Hopefully on Christmas morning I can add one to my bag.

Oh I'd definitely be down for a round with local spies! Aguila is about 30 min from me so definitely doable!

As for the TS-1's I actually have them paired with PX Rifle 5.5's now but honestly they feel even stiffer than the DG's so that probably wouldn't be your cup of tea.

Being that I just put together a 3rd set of clubs that I intend to use, I may be able to lend you a 7 iron head if you have stuff to build a club. I need to see how these new blades work out. Hopefully I can manage to find the center of the face. If so I'll definitely be happy to pull the head and let you borrow it.

Not sure I'd necessarily call this a "distance" set. Possibly more forgiving though with the tungsten slug in the toe. I see you're playing the MIM tours. looking at the loft specs, at the most the TS-1's are 1* stronger on some clubs and only .5* on others. I will admit that their lofting is a but unconventional though but still not overly strong by any means and they can be easily bent to make a distance set or match what you're playing now.

that said, I believe I've found my 2022 irons in this ERG set that I just built so I can definitely lend out a head or 2 if you're interested in building yourself a demo. Who knows.. I may have a set of TS-1's being listed for sale here shortly (the ERG's are THAT good!).. but lets not get ahead of ourselves just yet 😛

If you're interested, just shoot me a DM and we can meet up. If you don't have any materials, I can build one for you. Kuro Kage makes a pretty good and inexpensive shaft that they sell at Golf galaxy for $25 that I could pair it up with. They're 75g so not sure if that would be a good comparison or not.. but a R flex 75g would be a closer match than a 120g PX 5.5.

The box under the tree looks like it may contain the 52 and 56 degree Sub 70 286 Wedges I STRONGLY suggested I might like for Christmas.

Recently, I picked up a UST Mamiya Helium Black 4 Graphite shaft and 8 gram slider weight for my Epic GBB driver.  Plan to do some "tinkering."

I came about 10 seconds from walking out of a Roger Dunn with some lightly used ZX7's today with KBS $taper 120 shafts Standard length.  Price wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad.  Figured I could pull and recover the $tapers, sell them, and re-shaft with the Elevate Tours I've come to love.

Two things stopped me -- the thought of being murdered by my lovely wife for buying another golf related item after she already got me a very awesome and pricey series of lessons for my Birthday and Christmas, and the fact that when I put the 8 iron on the swing weight scale it was a C5.  Other clubs were also in that range and very very light.  I thought maybe the scale was off so I put the demo 8 iron on and got the standard D3.  That's 8 points.  So by my math that's either 16 grams (drilled out?) out of the head & hosel or 40 grams of counterweighting on the butt end.  It didn't feel to me like the butt end was particularly heavy so I decided against.  Just kind of felt off.  Maybe I don't know enough about putting clubs together but with what I do know it didn't feel right to me.  In any case it saved me from making the purchase today.

Walking out I decided I'm not going to get the ZX7s or something similar (223?) until I can reward myself for getting firmly into the single digits (Arbitrarily aiming for 8).  That's 5.7 down from where I am now and between and 2-4 down from my best differentials in the 8 that count.  That should cool my jet's for a while.... I hope.

Something sounds off about the C5 swingweight if it was truly standard length unless it had an extra super jumbo grip on it. That's a lot of weight to take out of the hosel.
