In addition to getting in some golf much earlier in the year than I'm used to, which was awesome, Kirke and I hit a golf store as well (there are none here where we live). We intended only to get Kirke a glove, but I looked at some used clubs and...

Picked up a snazzy new driver with and RDX Smoke Blue shaft for $165. Figured that even if it doesn't kick my Titleist TS3 out of my bag, I'm likely to be able to recoup that cost.

I found a used set of Sub70 659 CB 5-AW with project x 6.0 steel shafts plus 54* & 58* 286 wedges for $500. They’re a little dinged up, but all of them were in my exact fitting specs so they’re going straight into the bag. Since reading @GolfSpy_APH long term review on the 659 TC raw irons, I was hoping to find the CB raw version, but satin will suit me just fine. I’ve been fanboying Sub 70 from afar for a while now and I’m excited to have something of theirs in the bag, even if it is used.

Nice pickup! I test drove this club as well last week, going for $149 at the PGA Tour Superstore. I couldn’t believe it, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger on it since it wasn’t beating my Ping G410, but I was this close to buying it.

3 dozen Vice Pro Soft golf balls and a dozen Calloway super soft golf balls. Should take me through 2023.

Absolutely love it. I was a little concerned about spin at first, but it hasn't increased at all. Distance and forgiveness is all that has increased. On my simulator, I was consistently longer with the same smash factor.

Played in very windy conditions Friday and it never once ballooned on me. I prefer to carry the ball as far as possible and my launch angle is a little high for my swing speed, but I don't like roll as that can get me in trouble At the two courses I belong to and play. So I went from hitting a 10⁰ in the TSi3 to a 9⁰ in TSr2. Went from a mid launch low spin shaft to low launch low spin shaft and it is perfect. 

If I miss the center, it's a little toward the toe.  When I'm a 1/4" toward the toe, I lose zero distance with the TSr. With the tsi3, I would lose 15 yards on that shot and it would draw more. 

Switching to the TSr is a change that I recommend to anyone playing Titleist drivers.

Sadly this weekend I missed on what may have been a flash sale a DSG and GG on Callaway Chrome Soft X, 2022 Triple Track edition that were 4 dozen for price of 3... but I did reorder my golf shoes I got for Christmas in the right size and finally made a decision on club 14. Once everything shows up and a golf ball selection is made, I promise you all an updated WITB, first one I think since the G710 Review in 2020?

Well the winter buying spree has not ended quite yet for me. Have been eyeing a new driver and 3 wood. Finally pulled the trigger on the LTDx Max 3W. Wanted something with a bit more loft than my current 3W (LTD @ 14.5*) to help with hitting off the turf as that will be the main purpose of this club. Could only find the head only out in England so I will be waiting til the end of the month to give it a rip.

10 out of 14 clubs have not seen a blade of grass if that is a good indication of what I have been up to this off season.

I just ordered a Cleveland RTX 6 ZipCore Tour wedge at 48* to replace my soon to be gone gap wedge.  I have the ZipCores in 54 and 58 and love them.  New irons are in my future and the RTX are a known commodity (and likely less expensive than an iron set gap wedge).  I am excited to test it out.

I also picked up a Big MAX Dri Lite Hybrid Tour Water-Repellent Stand Bag from Amazon to replace my quickly deteriorating bag, and a headcover that looks a lot like our puppy (at my supportive wife's suggestion).  The old bag did not have full-length club compartments and was murder on grips and immensely frustrating with tangled clubs.  Hopefully this will be more protective and easier to use.

I love my Dri Lite 14.0 Hybrid.  The straps are pretty comfortable, it has plenty of pockets for me.  When I put midsize grips on my old clubs, the slots were a bit tight, but not a deal breaker.  I chose red and black to support The Dawgs!

Well, I did it!

I went and got fitted and bought the Cobra Aero Jet irons.  I got 5 - PW + GW with KBS Tour Lite Regular shafts, 

The first new clubs I have ever owned!  Very excited to hit them.

 

 

I've accidentally become a full-fledged Cobra fanboy...  I'm keeping 2 of my Vokeys in the bag.

Too much junk for me!  I usually push a cart or ride, so weight matters a little less.  (I have a lighter bag I use if I know I am carrying.)  I usually carry a couple Gatorades and snack bars in addition to an excess of balls, extra gloves, layers (for the unpredictable Hoosier spring and fall weather), adjustment tools, cigars, rangefinder, etc.  Yeah - definitely too much!

Decided to retire my 2019 PXG 0211s with KBS C-Taper Stiff. Went to a fitting looking for more loading and feel and got set up with the Cobra ForgedTec X with KBS Tour Lite shafts. 92mph 6i swing speed and with the Tour Lites got better feel and numbers with the Regular flex instead of Stiff. That was a bit odd to me but numbers don’t lie. Biggest drawback with the loft jacked X’s will be going back and reclubbing my bag. The 5 and 6i X’s were giving me same distances as my current gamer 3 (19deg) and 4 (22deg)G410 hybrids. So will probably need to take out hybrids, add an extra wedge and maybe a 5 or 7 wood now.

I am a bit embarrassed to be posting here again so soon, but I scored a set of Mizuno MP-60 irons 5-9 off eBay for crazy cheap.  Excited to clean them up and try them.

I’ve been looking for JPX 800-900 irons but nothing crazy cheap yet, so I’m ok with my mp32+mp57s matching set from Japan for now anyway lol…
