Should be interesting with your Takomo iron test. Players distance irons are all about high launch low spin lol

Yeah, I am interested to see. You never know how it will work for different people. Irons are a bit of a conundrum for me. I am not the ball striker I used to be and want more forgiveness.  But what makes an iron more forgiving also launches it higher and I already have enough of that. I am #s nerd and always want to reach perfection, haha. But deep down at my level I know even if it is a little higher launch and lower spin. As long as I have the correct landing angle the ball will stop on the green.

Bought some 2023 Prov1x balls to compare against Maxfli Tour balls. Did a quick unscientific comparison between the two on BLP launch monitor. Prov1x definitely showed a bit more spin and peak height. We are talking maybe 200 to 500 more rpm spin and maybe 5 feet more peak height. Better ball for my game, will take any extra spin and peak height that i can get.

I went to the other golf store here in Augusta today, Edwin Watts, because I was at Home Depot which is right next door. I still needed to figure out what putters I liked and they had some other ones plus a larger putter space

Well they had a great deal, US ebay shipping is like 12-15, at 29.99 for this Cleveland TFI 1.0 2135 blade putter. It wasn't the #1 hitter for me but rest were like new prices. I got this at max range for an easy 2 put every time.

Also it had an Alabama Super Stroke grip, I am a grad and a fan of the school since a kid, that plus lefty club and price was just meant to be.

... Good stuff but for more fun you might want to try the Maxfli Tour X compared to the Prov1x and you may find them closer in spin and peak height.

Finally took the plunge with Sub 70.  Bought the 699 V2 Pros and the 949X Pro 5 hybrid. The hybrid is amazing and worthy of its My Golf Spy praise.  The irons are a tad bit longer than my PXG 0311 Gen 1s, but the stronger lofts attest to that. Played 9 with them in the first outing.  I was not striking well but managed a two over 38.  Much tighter dispersion with the Sub 70 699s than my PXGs.

Recently bought a few things, spent more money than I probably should have but I think I’m convincing myself it was an “investment”?

anyways… recently picked up a sim 5wood to replace my 19 degree hybrid, definitely worth it to me. It has been a solid 240 club for me, great “fairway finder” off the tee and has been great off the fairway, pretty stoked on that purchase

purchase 2&3 was the Rapsodo mlm2 and rukket spdr net, also love this “investment”. The Rapsodo is incredibly accurate, I would say I know my distances pretty well and the numbers coming off the unit fall right in that window. Also, net was very easy to set up.

I recently purchased a 56 degree wedge.  Although I have a 56 degree wedge, it has 14 degree bounce and about every time I try to pitch with it, or hit it out of the fairway I skull the ball.  I purchased a 10 degree bounce in hopes of eliminating the problem.

I also bit on one of those freebie offers and got a 21 degree fairway or hybird.  I'm not exactly sure what it is, although I was supposed to be a getting a putter to try.  I took it to the range yesterday, and it's not a bad club.  I didn't really need it, or another putter, but a freebie is a freebie and too good to pass up!

Started playing late in life, but as I got older I found that golf is a much better activity than a lot of things old folks get into, plus I meet some of the nicest most interesting people!

I’ve been playing the original CBX wedges (54&58 DG steel) for a long time, and decided to upgrade. I mentioned a few days ago that I ordered a CBX Zipcore 52* with a Rotex shaft and a 58* RTX Zipcore with DG Spinner.

I’m playing irons now with a 46* set AW, so I figured I would try a 46-52-58 wedge setup. My AW is my 100 yard club, and my CBX 54 goes about 75-80. I bought the 52 hoping for 85-90 yards?
They haven’t arrived yet, and I’m already second guessing myself. The 58* would be used almost only out of bunkers (ours are very hard packed, so I got the low bounce 6* version) and now I’m worried about not having a full swing club I trust with more than 52* loft…

I use my 54* for full swings and longer bunker shots, so my question is, does the 52-58 thing make sense, or would I be better off with 52-56 (I would feel confident hitting a full shot with the more versatile 56-10) or just going 54-58 again and hitting 3/4 shots with my set AW?

I would love to hear your opinions and advice with this, and telling  me about your setup and why you chose it would be helpful also. Thanks in advance guys!

The last thing I bought is a Shot Scope V5 system. I've only played 3 rounds with is so far but it has been on the money in showing me the yardage and keeping my score.

I have worked as a volunteer at several US Opens. The picture in my profile is from the 2011 Open at Congressional. This year I was supposed to work at the KPMG Women's LPGA tournament until Covid 19 changed that. If 2021 is more normal I'll be volunteering at it in June.
