Hey, I didn’t want to bore you last night talking about when I was fitted for these, but wtf...
The guy who fitted me played briefly on the European Tour about 15-20 years ago. He’s obviously a hell of a player. He has these same irons in his bag to this day. He’s a member at my club, and a great guy. He thought they were perfect for me. I know he was disappointed I went with the CF16s, but I just couldn’t resist the deal I got with them.

Ok I couldn't resist.. last pic I promise. Just had the grips installed. Love these Golf Pride Microsuedes! They look and feel way better than the traditional wraps.

Since I didn’t grow up in the golden days of blades and balata, I’ve had an itch to make a vintage bag.  I’ve got the woods and putter (Ping Eye 2 laminates 1-7 W, and an old beat up Ping Anser).  

I finally broke down and ordered the rest of the set last night.  1973 Wilson Staff blades are on the way!

Club fitting tomorrow, time for new (fitted, this time) top of the bag. Hitting my 3w like TRASH lately, might go sans fairways altogether, OR might end up with one or more of these new hybrids. We'll have to see.

Scored a second 5-GW set of Maltby PTM Chrome Forged on eBay. I wasn't going to pull the trigger on them, but they were at a price that I couldn't pass up. They look to be in even better condition than the set I'm currently playing.

I will pull the shafts, which are KBS Tour 105s in regular flex, and probably put them in a set of .370 bore Hogan Edge CFTs I have in my basement before selling those. Not sure if the shafts are .355 or .370 - if they were built by Golfworks I think they'll be .370. Otherwise I may try to save the grips (which were listed as new) and then sell the shafts separately. Who knows? More a project for if I get bored in the next few weeks.

I will likely use the heads as an experiment for moving to graphite. Looking at SteelFibers i110s or the new KBS TGIs, probably the 100 gram option. I'm not getting any younger, and I want to head off any elbow or shoulder issues from excessive vibration. Practicing on mats all winter has been really hard on my right shoulder, especially, which already has plenty of wear and tear on it from playing baseball. If I ever do get a simulator for my garage, I will need a quality mat and graphite to help dampen the shock.

Since my coach has Trackman, I can build up a test club and compare everything to my current set with the C-Taper Lites pretty easily this summer.

I play a vintage tournament every year and the Ping Eye 2 laminates with x100s are my go to. Unfortunately for me mine are refinished woods that I actually played in high school.

I'm going to Truspec at the end of the year and I'm excited to see if graphite would be a good option for me. I always had issues "feeling" where in my swing the head is at with graphite irons in the past, but like you I'm not getting younger and if I can reduce the amount of crap I put my joints through I think I'll be better off when I'm dusty old. So many graphite offerings from so many reputable companies now, there's gotta be something out there!

Yes, I'd rather be proactive than reactive in this case.

The Mizuno Shaft Optimizer spit out the i110s during my fitting in the fall, and I really like the feel of the i95 in my hybrid. I think the SteelFibers will be the likely choice, unless the performance is not great. Expensive (roughly $371 for a set of new shafts), but still less than the TGIs. And I'd still be sub-$600 for the entire set with a set of Star grips considering the low price I paid for these.

Both the i110s and TGIs would be in the same weight class as the C-Taper Lites, so I'm thinking a transition shouldn't be too hard.

I still haven’t hit mine yet. One of them still has a sticker on the face.   In fact I’ve never hit an actual wood made out of wood.  I understand what you mean, but that’s pretty awesome you still have and can still play those Eye 2’s.   Do you still have your irons from high school?

I do. Played Ping Eye 2s through the entire bag and a Ping Zing BeCu putter that I also still have. Played the Ping Eye 2s for most of my time in college in the irons but switched to Callaway metal woods at the top of the bag until my senior year when I played McHenry metals tour pure 2s. Still have the McHenry driver kicking around somewhere in the golf room.

Of course I have a Ping Eye 2 putter. It was not what I played in high school and college. Believe it or not the Ping Zing was the only putter I played and owned from my Freshman year of high school until about a year after I graduated from college and bought the original 2 ball and then a Scotty Futura. After that the floodgates opened.

Ordered a Callaway Fairway 14 stand bag. Liked the fusion 14 last year but Callaway didn’t have any left when I tried to cash in my reward points so I had to wait for the 2020 bags to hit their store. Looks like it will work on a cart, push cart, and is light enough to carry to the range.

I went full throttle degenerate and bought the SIM Max, ordered a Ventus Blue (the "real" one) on Sunday, and bought a mattress yesterday. See ya, money!

Picked up the Maltby KE4 Tour TC driver from Golfworks. Wish drivers like this would be represented in the MGS driver test.
