What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)

I should really refrain from leaving my office at lunch.  I found myself at my local golf shop (as I often do) and perusing the used putter section.  

This baby was just sitting there waiting for me to roll in putt after putt on the practice green... 

You may be asking.... is it normal for a L.A.B. DF 2.1 to stand up on its own?  Well... no, not usually.  But this happened to begin life as a long, split grip putter, and the original owner shortened it to 34", without changing the lie angle... thus giving it the ability to stand at attention without assistance.  

It goes against everything that the L.A.B. fitting process stands for, I'm sure... but MAN was I rolling it good!  

The proof will be on the course tomorrow morning... but I walked away from it in the shop 3 different times, before snagging it on the last walk toward the door.  

For reference, here is a shot of my 2 Ball Ten putter, sitting flat on the ground (with an assist from my MGS Forum Logo Bag  ).  You can see the difference in lie angle pretty clearly.

My short game has been horrible enough the past few weeks and months, I've canned the idea of having 2 drivers and a gap between my 45° pw and 52°

Pre-owned with a 20% discount but it says "new" 48° Sub70 286 black and I threw in a tan leather belt to get the free shipping.

I have been looking at those sub 70 wedges as well. You will have to let me know how you like it.

On a similar wavelength to @richk9holes and @cksurfdude...

Ordered the matching 56° and 60° wedges to go along with my 52°. It's been about a month since I've had the 52° and it's a great club, possibly my favorite club right now. Got to apply my coupon from the first purchase to cover a nice looking hat.


Additionally, I'm trying the Sub70 demo program with a 949x #4H, 699u/699 combo set #5u and #9i, all regular flex. Had some great luck with a rental set of regular flex clubs while on vacation. Trying to decide how I feel about hybrids vs irons and less of a super game improvement/starter iron.

Turns out The Littlest Golfer makes the same set in left-handed, and got that over the weekend (video is him with big bro's RH set). Highly recommend these clubs if you're trying to get a 2-3 year-old into the game (worked wonders for our now 4-year-old, who actually still uses them in the backyard) -- they're light, well-constructed, somewhat realistic (heads are a bit oversize, but that's OK), come with a teaching grip on both the driver and iron, and they're plastic with foam balls so they are safe to use indoors on carpet (like during Wisconsin winters). The plastic is also the downside -- can't use them with real balls / at the driving range. 

 

So... Made the decision that if Vanilla Bryce is going to be a lefty, I'm going to learn with him. Picked up the cheapest, unused LH wedges that I could find -- yes, I now own Top Flite golf clubs but for the purpose and price (2 for $95, tax+shipping included), hard to pass up. Now just need to find a cheap 7i and a driver to complete the "set". 

 

FWIW... They actually look like nice clubs. Probably wouldn't trust the shafts for my normal game, but the heads are surprisingly nice.

Well... I have an issue. I never should have opened Slickdeals. Found a pair of Adidas CodeChaos for $45. Even though I have enough golf shoes, I feel like that was too good to pass up.

Hah will do .. soon...  Had demo'ed several different GI irons so did want to do a quick recap.

And yes to the grip, too - briefly, got to try it out yesterday and it *does* feel different and for these getting old and a little stiff fingers was easy to grip the club.

I’ve always been curious about Sub70, but their options for LH demos are either non existent, or extremely limited as far as shaft and flex. If you have the time, can you tell us what your other finalists were, and why you went with these?

Thx! Will write up a fuller member review soon but briefly .. for me .. the Sub 70s have the best combo of forgiveness, distance and feel. Too bad about the lefty thing...

Someone else had mentioned somewhere the Code Chaos didn't fit them well and unfortunately I have the same problem with a pair I have - even though I have other Adidas shoes and sneakers that fit me well....

Interesting. I hope they end up fitting, if not, I guess it ain't the end of the world. I'm a Puma guy now, but I did have a pair of Adidas long ago that were super comfortable. Fingers crossed!

Was browsing eBay “always dangerous” . Got a Srixon ZX5 MK2 LS with a graphite design tour AD DI 6X for $255. I currently have a ZX7 MK2 with a Tensei AV white 65X. It was a close battle for me with the 5 LS and 7 when I got them so might give 5 LS another shot at the bag. But I know I can get $160 for it at 2nd swing with the Tensei shaft so the plan is to take the shaft and trade it in and will effectively be getting the DI shaft for $95. I am excited as I have never had a high end shaft like this.

tax free weekend in MA... thinking about going back to Golfers Warehouse and taking advantage of the 90 day no questions asked exchange policy for a set of irons. my GIR are no good... 4/12 yesterday. pathetic.

Finally got to play my new vokey Sm9 54 degree. Felt great and my prov1x ball checked when needed. Wish the rest of my game felt good today. Oh well we all have off days but at least I felt comfortable with my new club.

Just got a new Stealth Fairway 3 wood after quite a bit of deliberation over brand/justifying the cost to my better half 

 

Picked it up for $180 shipped with a headcover in "Very Good" condition from 3balls, although they did not have actual pics of the club itself posted. Seemed like a steal at the time. I took it out on Saturday and immediately noticed the improvement to my distance as well as less severe misses. That probably isn't saying much though, as I was using a Wilson Pro Staff 3 wood from probably 2005.

Finally pulled the trigger on a driving iron. And for a steal at that. $100 excellent condition Titleist U510 2 iron. Has a DG S400 shaft.

I’ll be getting it regripped because I can’t use the jumbo size grip on it now. Eventually I’ll throw a graphite shaft in it to make it an absolute rocket launcher.

I know a guy . Coworker couldn’t hit it and I just sweated it out for a little and he finally came down to my price. Definitely a lucky find. But hoping I don’t need it if I win the Titleist utility giveaway haha

I have had this in the bag a few years now and it’s just great on windy days when you need more roll out and less height than a hybrid.

I'm looking forward to getting more time with it on the course. I tested it out a little before I bought it but could not get used to the Jumbo sized grip on it. I'm looking at the Lamkin UTX in green after following along with the testing thread on the forum.

I just bought a 3 iron. Nike vapor speed, with original x-flex shaft, which is the slingshot graphite design for nike golf. It was brand new still in plastic. So far I've loved hitting it. My only gripe is I'm pretty sure the tour wrap grip is also original, so it's sucked to hold onto.

I have a 3 and 4 of the U510 and haven’t looked back, 2 of the best clubs I’ve hit…and paid quite a bit more than $100!

Bought a GPOD to record my swing.  I've wanted one for a while and believe with the T100 testing on the horizon, it would be the best way to deliver some good content.
