What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)

Back in the day when I moved to the United States my first major set of golf clubs were 2006 Ping Raptures.
I loved these clubs but sadly this was my only ping irons I used up to present day.
They did everything I needed, but got my head turned in 2011 by the R11 Irons from Taylormade.
17 years later and always regretting not staying with Ping I just purchased the i525 irons, my heart was set on them but like a true golfer tested all the brands Callaway, Titleist, Taylormade, Srixon, Cobra in the new models.
The i525 irons came of the face like a rocket with a soft buttery feel, I spent hours with trackman testing but these irons hit all the right numbers, that soft feel, the accuracy, the grouping even with a couple of miss hits. if you get a chance and are looking test these out but look at different shaft set ups with them to find the right one.
You’ll know when, it’s around the time you’ll feel you just hit a marshmallow while being hugged by a cloud.

Titleist TRS Driver, Titleist TSR 3 Wood, Titleist TRS 2 Hybrid, Titleist T300 irons, Vokey SM9 wedges 56 - 60, Scotty Cameron putter.

Things did not go to plan on my driver fitting. Apparently as an OEM seller Club Champion only has the current year models available for fitting, so I wasn't able to hit the Sim2 but went ahead and got fit for the Stealth and got a custom setup for the Stealth HD.

When I went to the TaylorMade website the specified shaft was a $350 upcharge and they didn't have the grip I use or weighting specified available. I'm not a guy that needs a $1000 driver because: 1) spending $1000 on a single club is insanity at my level of play and 2) I don't lack for distance off the tee; the difference between hitting 250-270 and 260-280 is negligible for most places I play. Yes, I have a $700 gift card but seeing a 4 digit number convinced me to go a different direction. My old driver is over 10 years old so anything is an upgrade.

I bought a bone stock (you couldn't customize this one on the site) Sim2 Max D, TP Hydro Blast Soto putter, a glove, and 2 dozen customized balls for a total of $699.55 with free shipping. Everything except the balls is supposed to be here tomorrow, so hopefully it will arrive in time for me to test it out on Friday at a tournament.

FWIW, I think you made a good choice given the circumstances. I hope the clubs work out for you, but that’s a pretty good haul, all things considered.

... By definition a 25 index isn't gonna see much differences between comparable drivers. Spreading the wealth and picking up as you said "a pretty good haul" was a great choice.

Has anyone else found MaxFli gloves to be absolute garbage? I picked one up at Dick's and it had a hole in it before I finished my first round wearing it. Returned it for another, took it out of the package to hit at the driving range before I played on Monday, and that one ripped before I left the range.

No, the only ones that fit me are the Callaway Tour Authentic or the Titleist Player's gloves.  I go through every other glove really quickly, mainly because they don't fit well.  These 2 last a long time and let me keep a good grip on the club.

I played a LOT more this year and went through 5 gloves this season. Maybe this TaylorMade that came in the mail today will last?

I go thru gloves quick because of sweat and the heat. I found some Srixon cabretta gloves that have held up pretty well and at $9 worth buying a few at a time. I rotate my gloves every hole during summer to try and make them last longer. The range gloves are the ones that have started wearing out and during summer I still switch those out a few times each bucket.

Just pulled the trigger on a Shot Scope X5 GPS watch with club sensors!

Note: Photo below taken from Today’s Golfer review blog.

IMG_2673.webp.23cdb3b2f9e52968b2112b3da9323986.webp

I previously had a Garmin Approach S60 GPS watch and only had positive things to say about the hardware and the on-course features. On the other hand, the advanced data analysis interface and app were greatly lacking, to say the least, and barely provided any insight into one’s game strengths and weaknesses.

Seeing numerous posts about Shot Scope’s data analysis options convinced me to make the switch!

I was debating adding a lob wedge to my bag. But some birthday money rolled in, so I thought, " Why not?" I added an SM9 54/12 to my bag earlier this year. I just ordered an SM9 58/12 based on the recommendations from the Vokey wedge selector tool.

... A LW can be the most valuable club in your bag or a score killer. It takes a TON of practice to understand how to use a LW effectively, starting with a bigger swing and more speed than most high index players think. Bigger swing and more speed make a skulled shot seem like a mini drive and can result in trepidation with future shots, all but assuring poor LW play. But the skulled long drive wedge means you are on the right track and if you keep putting in the practice you can find a real stroke saver. Great purchase and good luck!!!

Bought a utility iron! A Sub 70 699 Pro V2 Utility 3-iron, with a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 80g, 5.5 flex shaft

Been looking for something between my 3 and 7 woods that I can hit more reliably off the turf/rough. Haven't had much luck with hybrids, but a few weeks ago I had the chance to demo Titleist U505 2 and 3 iron. Instant connection! 💥 Solid contact, straight, buttery feel, and distance I was looking for. Between the two I preferred the 2 iron, and it fills the gap better in my bag. However, one of these costs more than what I paid for my driver... so I started doing some research/reading MGS best-ofs.

That's where Sub70 came in, for half the price I could pretty much match all the specs of the U505 2-iron (39.75" length, 18° loft, and 60.5° lie). Only differences being the club head (obviously), variation of HZRDUS Black (Smoke RDX vs 4th Gen.), 5.5 flex instead of the stiffer 6.0 flex demo, and my preferred grip. I ordered it on Oct. 4th, and it arrived yesterday Oct. 12th.

It feels exactly like I had hoped! I spent about three hours yesterday just ripping balls into the net, and I want to do it again today, it feels great. Still need to get out to the course to see the trajectory, but I can tell there is some serious ball speed there from the sound on the net💥
