Go with the 5.5. It's an awesome flat stick. Very stable. And the top line is an excellent sight aid. Also, refurbished and Scotty Cameron should never go together, but that is just one man's opinion...

Thanks for that info @BLD7!  I've watched all the Scotty putter videos on the Cameron website & the Phantom X5.5 was the most intriguing.  Had the components for Blade & Mallet.
I like the "Very Stable" description & top-line sight aid.

Also agree about refurbishing. By the time I "Invest" in the cost of refurbish, why not put it towards a new putter?

Refinished Scottys are great the color changes, custom work, etc. are what makes them yours instead of 1 just like the other 2 in your foursome. Besides flipping a few that I have touched up or refinished help to fund the keeper Scottys 😁

DIY if the putter is not too bad is not expensive. If not damaged worse than dents and dings and the face doesnt need remilling Then some basic tools, sandpaper and a few readily available chemicals like acetone, distilled vinegar , etc. and away you go.

I don't think you considered the right options.    I think you should get the Newport 2 refinished and pull the trigger on buying the Phantom 5.5

@Fred Mitchell I guess I should have clarified my definition of refurbished. To me a refurb is where a company regrinds the top/face/bumpers/etc to remove dents/gashes/dings. Removing paint and/or changing paint to your own preferences is much different and certainly not an issue IMHO. I have a couple Scottys that have been repainted. To me changing paint is basically the same as changing the grip to one's liking. When I hear "refurbished" I think more along the lines of metal work...

For me the sanding or light buffing wheel use is no different than painting unless its on the face. If it doesnt remover much if any weight or affect the grooves to get out dents and dings but you can make the putter look marvelous again then go for it IMO. I bought a 96 Laguna for a no brainer price because it was used up untii 10 or so Years ago with no cover and then left in a damp garage to rust. Some buffing and sandpaper, oil and a cheap handheld propane torch followed by hobby paint for the writing and sight line and it looks marvelous.

I agree what you are doing is restoration since you are buffing, sanding, and changing the finish.  Obviously the condition of the putter will impact the amount needed and may require welding and milling and probably not a project for the general DIYer.   I personally would love to learn how to weld to fill deep marks and have a mill to do some basic stuff and maybe even make a putter.

I have watched quite a few videos and the use of a small hammer on dings and dents to push back material in its rightful place before the actual buffing and sanding has been a game changer in some of them. After The holidays I will grab a few thrift store putters and irons to practice on and learn the craft for lack of a better term. Think about it, if you can get the hang of it and bring some quality clubs back to life with 1 trip to harbor freight and 20$ or so in hammers thats a LOT of bang for the buck. When a big dent or ding happens on a club the metal usually stays on the putter/club, it just gets moved if it can be pushed back in close enough to the original spot and then just sanded and buffed back to a quality finish you will little to no metal loss, no need to weld in and then grind away the weld to get the club back right and unless its on the grooves and needs remilling it should make zero difference in playability. PLUS you have an excuse to customize the club to your taste. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Here once again. Callaway Preowned is selling the all titanium Great Big Bertha 7 woods new for $150 w headcover. I hit these at golf galaxy and found them amazingly easy to hit and long but they were like $500 at the time. Only thing is hard to find stiff shafts with this series as its very lightweight but thats fine, I just installed my own as I had a HZDUS black RDX 6.0 and a Diamina 'ahina. Put on the rdx and my god is this the easiest club I ever hit from fairway. Also brought it down to 20 degrees and with the lower launch shaft, its a super easy 225 yards, 20 yards longer than my previous 7 wood. If you are a senior or slower swing speed, I highly recommend these with the stock helium shafts at the price callaway preowned is selling them for. Driver too.  So light and easy to launch.

My second buy was a king tec 5 hybrid with MMT stiff that I got from Proclubs on ebay for $65 new w headcover. They have a bunch so check them out. I tend to pull hybrids but this thing is dead straight with weight in toe. Gaps with the 7 wood well at about 200. Only had a couple rounds with it but every shot I had with it was solid making me more confident with my hybrids again

The GBB 3W in that series is the club that finally knocked my ‘16 M2 out of my bag. The 5W didn’t work as well for me, I went with the Paradym instead (now I’m thinking about getting a matching 7W)

Enjoy the new 7w I hope it works as well for you as the 3W does for me!

The primary problem with my Newport 2 is the shaft is rusting.  I've used a 400 & 600 sandpaper softly sanding the rust.  I've even used a spray to keep from rusting, but that hasn't work.  There are a couple of nicks, but not bad.  I'd have to get it reshafted & recolored.

I was one of the lucky few that got in on the Edel 7 iron promotion this morning. Granted it’s more of a rental than a purchase but the key to this for me, is that I was able to get it with the same specs as my Titleist 7 iron ( 2 degrees up, 1/2” longer) and a steelfiber 110 stiff shaft. So it should give me a pretty good comparison between my steel shafts and a graphite shaft. I’ve been considering a set of recoil 110 shafts I have potential access to, for the Titleist irons.

My local Dicks did not have the 48 ball pack of Maxfli Tour X……but they did sell me four dozen Tour X’s for the $99 sale price.

Do you think they would do this deal in yellow golf balls?

If you go online someone on here said they were able to select 4 separate dozen at the same price and got yellow.

Just went to the site and it says this in the description.

For sure!  I wish I had seen it before I ordered because I would have gotten 2 of the tour and 2 tour x in each color to try out instead of the 4 dozen x
