I worked for DSG from 04-07, so there house stuff or "exclusives" were usually not great quality products. Really meant to be high margin products. Though occasionally there were some nice Walter Hagen branded stuff. This was also in the era that we would have 5 different TaylorMade drivers on the sales floor. So I got the balls today, and I noticed two patent numbers on the back of the box. I looked these up (I do this kind of research for work) and if you don't believe me the US Patent Office is free to use.

8,557,947 - This patent applicant was Hanson Group LLC, based in Duluth, Georgia & the current assignee is Foremost Golf Mfg.

D792,535 - Also a Foremost patent, this one is for the design of a golf ball. This patent was filed in 2016, which predates the DSG Maxfli by a few years. 

I wonder what other balls were made under this patent? I don't think it's a surprise that Foremost is the manufacturer, and I think MGS even states that in the ball lab articles. Does anyone have a list of all the major brand balls produced by Foremost?

the shaft is a different story.

Its not personal like that, just wrecked them doing some club building work.

Nice! I used to be a patent litigator and handle intellectual property matters in my current in-house position.

If it were South Carolina, I'd say mystery solved. 

Where is Bridgestone's plant in the south?  Not remembering...

edit:  Hanson Group LLC works in specialty urethane systems.  Greenville SC is only a couple hours away (where Dunlop Sports was/is).  And Covington GA, where Bridgestone now has a presence, is pretty close...

Ok, i guess i should tell my story since I alluded to it.

There were multiple factors at play that led to my mishap. I was trying to pull the Fuji MCI wedge shafts from my Edel wedges. Should be an easy job, i pulled like 10 graphite shafts in the past couple of days and have pulled a lot of shafts in general, so im not a newb.

So tried to pull graphite shafts with my Mitchell Commercial shaft puller. Wouldn't budge, regardless of the amount of heat applied. Decided I would sacrifice the graphite shafts and twist them off, knowing that the shaft may break at the hosel, I knew that would likely happen. 

Normally, after breaking a graphite shaft, I would drill it out, not an issue. So the next factor that piled on was that the Fuji iron shafts have "Metal composite technology", so there was some sort of piece of steel going right down about the middle of the shaft. So attempting to drill in the center to create a pilot hole was a not going to work well with that piece of steel there. Yep, so ended up wrecking the hosels trying to drill out the remaining shaft.

So in summary, the factors that led to me destroying the wedges were:

1. The shaft wouldn't budge at all. This part didn't make sense

2. Couldn't drill out the shaft properly because of the "metal composite technology" in the shaft

3. There may be an issue with my Mitchell puller. It has seemed not as strong as it used to be and i have needed to apply more heat than normal recently. Sending it in for Mitchell to take a look. I am also buying a Reverse Thrust Puller and will sell the Mitchell once its deemed ok or is repaired. The Reverse Thrust Puller is the strongest puller on the market. 

My overall frustration is partly because of wrecking the two wedges, but also because I take a lot of pride in high quality builds, especially since I am taking on some club building work as a side business. I will chalk it up as a learning experience, I am sure all professional club builders have screwed up something at least 1 or more times in their careers.

That's a good thread, but I'm more interested in the Taiwan manufacturing. Given that Dick's and TM have had a relationship for years, and I was trying to figure out if TM also ever had balls made by Foremost, we know they do some mfg in Asia per the TP5/x ball labs. I was wondering if maybe TM sold a patent when they sold the Maxfli name to Dick's.

I work for one of the larger firms in the US. I do all sorts of research and support. I talk with our IP team pretty frequently.
