Anyone familiar with VA Composites shafts? I was gifted a full set of iron and wedge shafts along with a few different woods.

At the golf course 19th hole, those are pretty legit lines that could probably hook you a nice weathered cougar that smells like menthols and Hawaiian Tropic banana coconut tanning oil.. at the local bar.. you'd probably get slapped.

Photo dump showing how well packaged it was and what great condition it's in...

The putter even has the protective plastic still on the underside (the dirt around the edge of the black sole is dust under the edge of the protective plastic)!

The grip is a little skinny for me, so I'll switch that out and stick it in the bag after a practice session tomorrow. I'll keep the Toulon in the bag for league tonight, but it really has some competition now!

 

Now to sell a couple of clubs to offset the unplanned impulse buy...

Anyone looking for a TM P790 2UDI (stiff) or TM Stealth 2Plus 4-hybrid (X-stiff)? Ha ha

 

Edit: considering trying one of those new Golf Pride reverse taper grips on this putter. Anyone tried them?

Wow. That looks fantastic!  It’s a beautiful basically brand new putter from what I can tell from the pics.  Putt them well!

They were started by one of the guys that started Oban shafts.  They make a great product, but like any shaft it's more important that it fits your swing.  I played the Raijin for a season and really liked it.

Actually, I recently bought the ES21w 58° 12° bounce. I game this and the ES21 54° 8° bounce more often than not. I don’t play the 60° much anymore. My thought was I could always sub in the 60° with narrower sole and less bounce if I find this is too much for the dry conditions. But if it’s a tight lie I tend to go with the 54° and go “chippier” than “floppier” if that makes sense. We have grass and sand bunkers  and nice fairways, so the wide sole big bounce has been very good for me. 

I just looked, and I bought the ES21w 58° new in the plastic for $65.

Beats the $80 I just paid.  wah wah wahhhhh.  But I love my pair of Mizuno S5s.  My best clubs.  Of course, wedges should be the most accurate.

I bought some green heat shrink tubing from Amazon to wrap some wedge shafts. 

I need to find some ferrules that will go with the colour, but I need to see the colour in person first. 

I'm thinking black with a thin gold or yellow ring.

I put black heat shrink on a heavy putter shaft. It looked good for a while, but did change the overall weight.  Didn’t matter on a heavy putter, It may have a drastic effect with wedges. It also didn’t last. I left it laying in the Texas sun on a 100° day for over an hour while “consulting” in the bar, and it rippled.

Picked up a new grip for the Scotty and installed it earlier. Weather looking good for some outdoor range and putting green practice this afternoon.

After thinking about them for a while and checking them out in local stores, I decided to bite the $30 bullet and buy a Golf Pride reverse taper grip. I chose the large pistol version. That seemed to fit my hands and preferred putting grip the best, but time will tell whether it's too big or just right. I was torn between medium and large but this allows my thumbs to be pretty much side by side on the flat face. It'll take up some valuable real estate in the bottom of the bag though.lol

I rolled a few putts on the indoor mat and it felt nice. We'll see how it works on the greens later.

I'll bag up and store the Scotty grip that came on the putter.

@Indy_Oz, @Tom the Golf Nut used that style putter grip when we played together at the MGS trip to Kingsmill and may be able to provide additional comments or answers to questions that you may have.

The putter is a work of art and feels really nice. Hoping that translates to the course as my putting needs to step up a level or three!

Yeah this will definitely be an experiment, and the weight was something I was also thinking about. 

It's for the wedges I'm revitalizing, and will probably be more for looks, I may just hang them up in my office when they're done. 

I also live in Canada, so we only get about 3 days where the sun is strong enough to wrinkle my wrap

Curious to hear how the new grip works for you.  What type of hand position do you use putting? Normal? Left hand low?  I have a normal putting grip, so not sure how that type of grip would work for me.

Smart move to save the putter grip. Scotty grips can be hard to find.

I went through some of the list, and specifically look at all the Adams clubs they had listed.

I'm very, VERY curious how this list was devised. 

There's no way they tested all of these clubs, or at least I have a hard time believing they did, and some of them seem way out of whack imho. 

They have XTD irons listed as "super game improvement", while having a30S hybrid irons as just "game improvement".

There are a bunch of parameters listed on the chart that I'm oblivious to like "C" Dim. and Basic VCOG, but head weight, loft, and M.O.I are also taken into the calculation. 

 

My fellow Adams fan, I have went through this rabbit hole and even spoke to Bret about it.

As you know the testing is done on obtaining raw numbers of the design. One thing not considered is how say a wide sole makes an iron easier to play. Just pure theoretical engineering. 

Ive played the XTD and my father still played the top Idea VST up to this year (replaced with ke4 max w senior graphite) set and I made my nephew a set of the following Idea Tech all black hybrid set hes still using now.. Those idea sets are the basis for TM Stealth HD which are TM'S highest rating.

The reason why the older Adams set tested poorly (and why most clubs do) Is the actual vcog, the actual r cog + MOI and then the very important c spot. Older Adams tended to have higher center of gravity and c dimension as a result. I personally didnt find the XTD that forgiving, but I was not a good golfer then. The Adams Idea VST are still ranked very high. And you also have to consider that Adams had hybrid design sets with up to 3 different designs of iron/hybrid and the MPF focused on 6 iron only. I wanted to see how my CB3s fared too but its to the company to offer clubs for measurement. There is a detailed explanation on how the math maths if you go to maltbys site or on the PDF DL on golfworks.

Low actual v cog+ higher actual r cog paired with a large moi and C dimension results in the highest MPF with other factors added in that mean less. If you want to break down on how they measure them, I can find you the PDF, or the people in the Maltby forum know a lot as well.

I’ve experimented with a number of different grips and putting styles, but settled back to somewhat of a ‘normal’ grip. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so here’s the current setup on the new grip…

I like the wide flat area for my thumbs and the taller side at the top fits my left palm nicely.

Yep I use the same grip on the round mid version and found it just didnt help me, I was actually gaining 4 strokes a round in putts. Let me know your on course results cus on the putting green I was on fire.

 

Edit: The shape is similar to a lamkin deep etched but just bigger. Lamkin made a grip roughly the same shape but less bulky for bettinardi as an oversized deep etched. I have it on my Bettanardi and the shape works great, maybe I just got the wrong size on the reverse taper.

Dont laugh, but the fake scotty grips on Temu or ebay are actually quite nice and like $7 or something outrageous.

Good to know of a similar shaped alternate if this doesn’t work. I initially liked the superstroke pistol grips, but fell out of love a little and experimented with slimmer grips and different shapes. My putting has improved since switching to a mallet style and hoping this putter-grip combo takes it up another level. If I have to switch grips again so be it. 
Rolling it in the garage leaves me optimistic! Heading to the practice green soon…

Absolutely, I love looking into this stuff. I couldn't find anything on their website that went deep into the parameters they used for testing. But I just realized that I was looking at the Golf Works Canada site, and there is no MPF info there. Actually, there seems to be a decent amount of product missing too?

I only knew a few of them like MO.I, and noticed some higher M.O.I clubs testing lower than clubs with a lower M.O.I.

Buddy got some of the really wide putter grips off there and honestly you couldn't tell the difference.

That's the way I grip as well. I put on the reverse taper round large and love it. As Robert mentioned, I used it in Kingsmill. Its still on the putter and doing well.

I swear, everything about golf seems so complicated at first.. I mean it took me a solid year before I really understood what "muscle back" and "cavity back" really meant, and even longer to be able to spot the difference.. 

A few years in, and it all starts to make sense, to the point where you can simplify things easily because you actually have an understanding of it. 

This video sums up the MPF very well without the need for a degree in trigonometry, although I do like to twist my brain into knots every now and then

I think the main issue with MPF is it is the equivalent to a religion.

Either you believe it or you dont.

Seems odd that massive companies like Taylormade, Titleist, and Ping would spend so much time and money on R&D with new clubs if MPF  and its calculations were absolute. Somehow they spend all that money and still rank poorly compared to Maltby clubs.
