On the other side of the coin, are OEM charging more because they know that we will buy new clubs at the price they are selling them at? While there are plenty of over priced products that may or may not be worth the price, I do think in the end with not just inexpensive but cheap copies, you get what you pay for. I did drop a joke on this earlier, but came back to put in my actual opinion -- looks like some have already shared similar things. LAB is not the first company to make a center-shafted mallet. They're also not the first (I don't think?) to make a center-shafted fang-style mallet. Same with the Link - back in the early 00s, I had a Sub30 that was in that exact style, with their proprietary face insert (and no weights on the bottom). Maybe the DF is a different story with design, but Mezz and Link "style" is somewhat fair game to copy and make cheap. Even the more "mainstream" brands have done this type of stuff in the past -- at least "back in my day" (I'm 40 now, I can say it), you could walk into a golf store, and you had the big expensive brands on one end, and on the other you had the less popular, cheaper brands that offered products that looked incredibly similar (then there were the even cheaper no-name brands that were clearly copies with different names -- but they were available off-the-rack at legit retailers. It reminds me of Golfsmith's club building catalog, which had quite a few options that were strikingly similar to mainstream models, but you knew they were not the real thing). From some quick searches, Tour Model is a good example of this (and I think one of the brands I remember seeing all over the place). I don't support clubs like this and would never buy one, and do expect them to be inferior in terms of performance, but also don't care as much that there's some company selling what's clearly just a "cheap looks like" model rather than trying to dupe someone into thinking they got the real thing. This one is clear with both the logo and the face (LAB doesn't change the face color). Someone that's watching you set up to a putt might think you have a LAB, but the buyer would (or at least should) know that this is not real, so I don't see much of an issue with it (personally, I'd never buy it or use it, and would prefer these things didn't exist, but as long as it's clear, it's fine). Where I start to disagree completely is a two different areas, but neither of them apply here: Counterfeits. If it was a direct copy with logos and everything, trying to dupe someone into thinking they bought the real thing, that's a problem. This comes up on eBay, and is a reason I steer clear of sites like eBay and Amazon when trying to buy golf gear (was burned by fake Golf Pride grips on eBay one time, confirmed by a rep at Golf Pride; on Amazon, once got a Callaway Apparel rain jacket that had some red flags, but it was around the time that Callaway Apparel changed ownership and actually shipped in from Europe, so couldn't confirm whether it was real or find any archived designs to compare - might have been a legit EU release). Something I really appreciate about a company like Golf Pride and Graphite Design is that they know this is an issue for them, and they post examples of what to watch for: https://www.golfpride.com/blog/counterfeit-grips-how-to-identify-avoid-them/ and https://proschoicegolfshafts.com/counterfeit-shaft-warning-2/ Patents. If they are actually copying patented technology and not just looks, that's a problem. It might not be a problem for Temu producing them in China, but I just don't agree with it as a golfer, and it becomes more of a problem selling it in the US market. But...LAB doesn't have patents on the Mezz. Their patents are on an elliptical grip and a self-balancing putter. The Mezz design appears to be fair game. https://labgolf.com/pages/patents Bang60, Rob Person, bama no 1 and 5 others 8 Quote Driver: Qi10 LS 8* w/ Terra Forza Yellow+ (MGS Test!) Popular Post Erin B Posted November 1 Popular Post Posted November 1 Hi guys!!! Wanted to give you an update on the cobra dark speed. There’s ZERO buyer’s remorse! I did put a Mitsubishi MMT Xstiff 70gram shaft it her though. I also have a Steadfast Xstiff shaft for her, and took an inch off the UST LINQ white stiff shaft. So far the MMT is working. I’m really liking the shaft and the 70 grams instead of the 60 grams. I hit a drive yesterday, bad back and all, through the fairway and ended up 297 yards. Now, I didn’t want to hit it that far, but I’m not gonna complain about that kind of distance in fall golf where the temp is in the 40s and my back isn’t 100%. The rest of the drives averaged 260 and I’m fine with that. Some were longer, some shorter. I’m also getting my irons re-shafted after NJ to KBS C taper lite. My 5 iron already has that shaft and although I like the Project X IO shaft, I like the C taper more. Ball goes a little higher and the shaft is a little lighter. Maybe next set of irons I’ll go with graphite again. Love playing around with things!!! Bang60, MattF, cksurfdude and 9 others 9 3 Quote I could play golf every day and learn something new each time. Sorry missed this before, I bought Demo irons because I wanted to try different Mizuno heads and it’s the most efficient way of using one shaft with multiple heads. Plus it’s cheaper this way using one shaft with 6-7 heads, I’d hoped I could find the Mizuno iron adapters but so far not much luck except I’ve got 3 different heads and only one shaft but I’ll keep looking cksurfdude, William P, Rob Person and 1 other 4 Quote I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

I was looking for a practice putter and ended up acquiring a little bit of history. A Rife 2 Bar Hybrid Blade. I so liked it that I took it with me on a road trip to the Montgomerie course at Celtic Manor in Wales. My gamer Odyssey might be staying by the practice mat for a bit after I ended up holing two 20+ foot putts - usually a three putt for me... Of course, I also switched grips to a saw type grip. Was it the Rife? Was it the changed grip? Me? I'm not complaining. cksurfdude, RaRa Golf, William P and 7 others 8 2 Quote * Titleist 915 D2 - Accra iW4 * Callaway Rogue ST Max 5FW - Tensei Blue 55R * Mizuno JPX Fli-Hi 4 and 5 hybrids - NS Pro Modus3 Tour 105 * Callaway Steelhead XR 5-PW - KBS Tour 90 * Ping Glide 4 50 and 56 - Elevate MPH 95 * Callaway Mack Daddy 2 60 - Dynamic Gold * Odyssey White Hot OG 7 / Rife 2 Bar Hybrid Blade * Srixon Q Star Tour and other non-tour urethanes * Shot Scope X5
Paul Hedrick Posted November 2 Posted November 2 When I first started playing seriously, I tended to more conservative golf clothes. Not so much anymore! LOL! I just bought three polos from a company called Obnoxious Golf. I figure if I cannot play well, at least I can dress well! But letting common sense be our guide, there is almost always a difference between a legit manufacturer making a product similar to others as well as their own unique designs and a company just making a copy of a successful product without any research or unique products of their own. So a legit OEM making a similar putter with just a few tweaks to differentiate it from the "original" is just capitalism. But when a company most of us have never heard of makes a product as similar as possible to the original hoping someone may be trying to trick people into thinking it is the original OR trick them into thinking it is just as good as the original at a much cheaper cost I think most of us would call that a difference. ... If someone copies say my EvnRoll putter in shape only and without the face roll technology or the strategically placed and different size weights (shown below) most everything about that putter can be vastly inferior from the metal used to the weighting and weight distribution as well as the balance. While there are plenty of over priced products that may or may not be worth the price, I do think in the end with not just inexpensive but cheap copies, you get what you pay for. ...
