A Real 1 vs 2 Back and Fourth

Recommended Posts

With Jordan Speith being seemingly the best player over the last few months and Rory being dominant last year, we could be in for a treat. What if Rory and Jordan become 1 and 2 in the world and have a real back and fourth for world number one? Everyone always begged for this from Tiger and Phil but it never really materialized due to Tiger's dominance. We could be in for a show with both of these guys early in the it careers and showing such good form. Is this wishful thinking on my part?

With all the younger guys starting to come into their own we may see something like the western conference in the nba where almost every team is on the elite level.

I do not think it is wishful thinking but more of an reality. I would like to see it would be great for golf period.

We just had a thread about a rival for Rory not too long ago and while Spieth was in the conversation, it was before his latest month of golf which has just been absolutely stellar. If he can keep this kind of play going, it's gonna be an awesome year for golf.

Also, it would be great to have another big 3/4 in Rory, Jordan, probly DJ and maybe Rickie or Day like we had with tiger, Phil, Ernie, and VJ.

A young American that would dominate the game of golf again would be huge for the sport. Two Americans would be better than an Irishman and an American. Sure Rory is good for global golf, but he's not Amercan. Nothing screams American like a good ole boy from Texas though.

I somewhat agree but golf needs to be grown everywhere. A back and fourth with a foreigner gives Americans someone to root against. Especially with the rider cup.

Golf is growing globally. Just look at the LPGA tour, NCAA, and PGA tour. Always going to take more time for global growth though due to poverty and lack of GC availability.

I strongly disagree about the foreigner aspect. Ryder Cup isn't every year and is talked about the week leading up to, week of, and then the week after only. Very minuscule.

This has been some month for Spieth. For me the biggest question is whether or not Rory has the type of game that will allow him to win when he doesn't have his A game. So far he hasn't shown that ability. Conversely it will be interesting to see if Spieth can hang with Rory when Rory brings it.

Rather than head to head in tournaments this may well be a cumlative sort of thing.

It has great potential that's for sure. I'm excited to have an American to fill the Tiger/Phil void. Spieth/Bubba/Dustin could be lots of fun and a real contrast in styles.

I totally agree that an American competing for #1 in the world is a good thing but Rory is also a good thing for golf. He is the only player with the ability to be the "Tiger" of 10-15 years ago. Speith gives the U.S. a shot at someone who can hang with that. The two dominating would be great for the sport.

Agree with what Rev said about Speith and Rory so far. The best part is they are only 21 and 25 respectively.

Everybody used to root against Monty.

The funny thing his that I have always liked Monte, he is an excellent player, and if you have ever heard him explain golf, or teach it he really good.

I have always liked Monte's game, but until he joined the Champions Tour, he came across as an ass to the U.S. crowds. His attitude fueled the fire. However, since he came to play on the Champions Tour and traveled around the U.S. by rental car getting to know people, his attitude has been completely different. He is actually quite funny, and still has a very good game.

I'm looking forward to some battles between Spieth and McIlroy. I really hope it materializes and these two build at least something that resembles a rivalry.

With that being said, if they're both on their A game, I'm not sure Spieth can keep up. Much like Phil couldn't keep up with Tiger when they both had their A game.

The problem is that Rory doesn't have his "A" game very often, so although the rivalry may materialize, I don't think it will be anywhere near the Phil vs Tiger match ups, golf was more fun to watch when they both had their game on, and I'm sure that Jordan vs Speith will be just a fun to watch when they both have their game on.

From the Inbox -- this one's interesting.  It appears Rory isn't happy with the ProV1 and is on the hunt for a new ball.  Who will it be? Srixon? Bridgestone? Kirkland? STROK?

Rory McIlroy plans on switching golf balls after Masters performance
      Golf News Net
Rory McIlroy is looking for a new golf ball, apparently ready to move on from the Titleist Pro V1x after a disappointing finish at the 2017 Masters.

Speaking after winding up tied for seventh place at Augusta National, McIlroy expressed concern with the spin he saw from the ball in difficult conditions on Thursday and Friday.

"I need to change my golf ball. That's a big thing," McIlroy said Sunday. "I thought my golf ball this week was doing weird things in the wind. It was very inconsistent so there's one thing I will change and try to work on the next few weeks."

McIlroy didn't allude to a slate of potential balls he could be playing. The four-time major winner chose to put the Pro V1 into play at the start of 2017, a consequence of moving on from Nike Golf equipment after their decision to exit the golf hard goods business in 2016. He also chose to play Callaway Golf's Great Big Bertha Epic driver and fairway woods and irons, as well Bob Vokey wedges from Titleist. McIlroy said he would be willing to change equipment at a moment's notice, having the freedom to do so without contracts that tie him to certain manufacturers. He exercised that flexibility at Augusta National, taking out the Epic fairway woods and putting in TaylorMade Golf M2 fairway woods.

Despite the disappointment of not completing the career Grand Slam in his third crack at it, McIlroy is the only player to finish in the top 10 in the Masters in each of the last four years

Rory is definitely doing what he can to corner the 10-year old demographic.

      What is Genuine Leather?

We all see it everyday, a company claims that it only uses "genuine leather" in the manufacturing process of their goods. Of we notice the stamp on our leather goods that state that the item is genuine leather, top-grain leather, or full-grain leather. But what do these stampings actually mean? And is there that a difference between the quality of each leather type.

Whether you're buying a golf club head covers, a scorecard holder, or belt, you should know exactly what to look for in your leather:

      FULL GRAIN LEATHER
Considered the most durable, expensive and highest quality grade of real leather is Full Grain. Full Grain is the top layer of the hide, and the only layer to posses the grain appearance.

      TOP GRAIN LEATHER
The second highest quality grade of leather is Top Grain. Top Grain has been split from the top layer of blemished hide, sanded and refinished. Sanding is a common process that tanners use to rid the hide of scars, scrapes and imperfections.

      GENUINE LEATHER
The third highest quality grade is Genuine Leather. Genuine Leather is produced from the layers of hide that remain after the top is split off for the better grades. The surface is usually refinished to resemble a higher grade leather.

      BONDED LEATHER
The fourth quality grade of leather is Bonded. Bonded is referred to as such because it is made from the dust and shavings of other hide layers. These remnants are then collected, glued and pressed together to form a single piece of hide. The hide is then sanded, refinished and often times painted to resemble a piece higher grade leather.

But no matter what quality grade, you can be certain that any item made with real leather is made from the hide of an animal, and will produce a durable and long lasting item.

Now it's no secret that OEM manufactures in the golf industry almost exclusively use synthetic leather for their golf clubs headcovers, and other "leather" items. The reason for this is purely economical. Synthetic leather is much less expensive than real leather. However, this results in sub-par quality items.

      SYNTHETIC LEATHER
Synthetic Leather is an artificial (man-made) leather. While this leather type may appear to look and feel like real leather, synthetic leather is of much lower quality than real leather. However, it is often used as a substitute for real leather because it is less expensive:

      POLYURETHANE "PU" LEATHER
Polyurethane Leather is made by coating a backing fabric such as cotton, polyester or shredded leather with a flexible polymer and then treating it to look more like animal hide. Polyurethane upholstery is the most realistic imitation of genuine leather, with respect to look and feel.

      VINYL LEATHER
Vinyl upholstery is made from two separate synthetic materials. The fibers of the upholstery are constructed from strong polyester fibers. The fibers are then coated with vinyl, and then melted onto the surface of the fibers, sealing them closed and making a virtually waterproof surface that is still flexible and tough.

      CONCLUSION
Regardless of what material quality is claimed by the manufacturer, or stamped on the item, we hope that this article has provided you with some facts that will make you a better informed consumer. Or, the very least, be better equipped for your next leather purchase.
