jdiddyesquire
Pretty easy question, I think. I find the idea of getting fit a little stressful. First of all, I have zero interest in buying new clubs after my fitting. I actually really enjoy picking up used clubs. I do, however, want to get fit so when I do buy clubs piecemeal, I have a map for what I should be targeting. So my question.... Is a club fitter going to be annoyed I'm paying for a fitting, but not getting clubs through them? How do fitters react to me bringing clubs I bought somewhere else to them to be adjusted? Is a fitting going to be less useful/waste of time if I am not going to immediately use those specifications to build out a bag? Do I need to wear orange head to toe and with a flat bill hat to my fitting? -Justin- @jdiddyesquire Driver - Speedline Super LS 9.5*, Matrix Red Tie 6Q3 X stiff3 Wood - Tour Edge Exotics CB4 Tour 13*, Aldila NV Protopype 80X Irons - 3-PW rac LT, KBS Tour XWedges - MP-T4, 50.6, 56.14, 60.5Putter - Odyssey White Hot Pro Rossie Bag: Daltrek Carry-Lite Stand Bag Shoes: Lunar Swingtip Suede Ball: Wilson Staff Duo
Severtheties
I think a lot of your question, in my experiences, depend on the fitter. I think if you go to the Taylormade Experience fitting center they're but don't have any intention of buying newish Taylormade clubs then you may run into some problems. On the other hand, I know of a fitter that i've had some exposure to here in Columbus that really doesn't care. He will make his suggestions but he also understands budgets and will work with whatever. He'll of course tell you that having the built to specs is better than bending to specs in his opinion but he'll never tell you no to doing it after the face on used clubs. I was talking to him about getting fit for a new Titleist 915 driver but also expressed my concerns over price and he told me just to go get a 913 head off ebay and it would be the same thing basically. Point is - i'd call around to your different fitting options and just be honest and tell them what your looking for. Find the right guy and then theres nothing wasteful about the process. As far as the orange head to toe the answer is yes, yes, and yes. With lots of pictures to post with your review of your experience haha. Good luck! I'm sure there's options for you. Do I need to wear orange head to toe and with a flat bill hat to my fitting? Q1: No, you are paying for the fitting. The cost is usually applied to a purchase, but ask beforehand. Q2: Again, you are paying for the adjustments. Definitely bring them to a fitting for comparisons on launch monitor. Q3: Not unless you have a swing change between fitting and purchase. Q4: Absolutely, and you need to send pictures in so we know you got custom fit! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
jaskanski
Kenny B pretty much summed it up! I would however add a little caveat - it is rather difficult to fit anyone for driver/fairway/hybrid with todays modern interchangeable head/shaft designs if you don't intend to use that fitting methodology. If you don't already own a specific club that enables this, then it's next to impossible to transfer any relevant fitting data obtained with one club to another. So in other words, if your fitter says your best hits are with (for example) a Titleist 915 D3 with a stiff flex Diamana 65g shaft at 44.75" and swing weighted at D4 with 10.5 loft and setting A1 - it doesn't mean the same stats will work for A-N-other driver. The same applies to the corresponding fairway or hybrid. Irons are a little easier to pigeon-hole into some sort of uniform fitting specific data that can be (relatively) transferred to most makes and sets. Get fit properly by all means, but don't expect that any data obtained from one make and model will translate to a set of specs you can use to purchase any club in the future. It'll get you into the ballpark area where you need to start looking - and maybe give you some idea of the length, feel and weight you prefer - but a guarantee to a universal "fit" for any club you intend to buy in the future it ain't. RookieBlue7
A few things to do in preparation for the fitting, call around fitters people in your area recommend and talk to them prior to scheduling. Ask them about their fitting process, what it includes, etc. That accomplishes 2 things, first, you know what to expect, and secondly, you get to get some kind of feel for what type of personality/person they are and can make a predetermination on whether or not their personality meshes with you or if you need to continue searching. Having someone that you can converse civily with as well as understand their questions and answers (interpretation wise) with is a big thing for a fitting as well. jdiddyesquire
The only other place that comes to mind is Precisionfit (keith) up in Kerrville . Yeah, I walked into his shop once and chatted him up. Nice guy. Bit old school. I know he only sells Wishon and Alpha, but since I'd be bringing my own clubs to tweak, not sure how he'd respond. He charges more for a fitting than MK too, interestingly. -Justin- @jdiddyesquire Driver - Speedline Super LS 9.5*, Matrix Red Tie 6Q3 X stiff3 Wood - Tour Edge Exotics CB4 Tour 13*, Aldila NV Protopype 80X Irons - 3-PW rac LT, KBS Tour XWedges - MP-T4, 50.6, 56.14, 60.5Putter - Odyssey White Hot Pro Rossie Bag: Daltrek Carry-Lite Stand Bag Shoes: Lunar Swingtip Suede Ball: Wilson Staff Duo

McGolf
you are paying for the fitting process (experience), Regardless of the equipment brought in they get them spec'd. As far as doing repairs or tweaks, that why we have a repair shop.,,, We get plenty of folks that buy new equipment and then ask to get them fit. no problem. just be prepared to be told that the equipment purchase may not be the best fit for you, if that is the way it turns out.
