Kenny B
OK, I have to jump in here. I didn't think I would because hybrid long irons are not my specialty. HOWEVER, after hitting the Bridgestone JGR Hybrid Forged Iron yesterday, I could see that this club might be a really good fit for some of you big hitters. I'm talking about the JGR 5i. It is sold separately from the set of 6-PW2 (read the Bridgestone posts for more on these). OK, it's a 5i, but it is 22* loft and it can be custom ordered with a variety of shafts. If you are looking for a long iron that will get up in the air and fly straight, check it out. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
beardedcoffeemug
I'm a huge fan of Bridgestone hybrids. The one I have in the bag now is so unbelievably easy to hit off the tee and off the ground. It's great out of the rough as well. I'm a big fan of the Project X shaft that comes with it. GarrettSmithGolf
The new Ping Crossover looks VERY interesting. I haven't gotten a chance to hit it myself. But, I have a buddy who is a former Ping staffer and played on Web.com Tour for several years and he had a head they (Ping) built for him back in 2010 that looked very similar and he absolutely rips it. Could be worth checking out! It definitely has more of the "iron" look with the performance of a hybrid. 808nation
I have trouble hitting long irons, so I put in a 3 and 4 hybrid, the Nike flex hybrid. By far these hybrids are the best I have ever hit. Very easy to hit and forgiving. The sound is amazing and the best part of it is that the head is smaller than your average hybrid yet still forgiving. The Titleist 712U driving iron looks great, but for me, a little too much like a iron. I would definitely check out your local golf store and try out various iron hybrids that fit your eye and swing. Enniskillen
Suggest you take a hard look at the new Ben Hogan VKTR Hybrids look aand hit a lot like an iron and are very workable...along with their adjustable wleghting system you can dial them into your particular swing/flight pattern(s). Additionally, you can go to thier web site and get a 21 day trail of one for the shipping cost of $19.95. I converted from the Titleist 915H! Golfspy_CG2
I have two of the Titleist 816 H1's I'm not exaggerating when I say they are the easiest clubs I've ever hit. Initially I was afraid as I had tried one or the previous (maybe 910) versions of hybrids and coudlnt get it in the air. The H1 is ridiculously easy to launch and just goes straight. My longest iron is a 6 that I will hit from about 150 yards. I almost am more confident at 160 yards and the 23 in my hand. Philly Golf Guy
The Apex Utility irons are very forgiving for that class while the Apex hybrid is a nice hybrid that plays similar to an iron.
