TESTERS ANNOUNCED! - BEN HOGAN GOLF FT. WORTH 15 IRONS/TK 15 WEDGES

Handicap:  5.7

I have played my Hogan CFT Edge hybrids for as long as I can remember.  When I tested these clubs, I was so impressed with their solid feel and quality finish.  My 4h is my go to club.  I can hit a low-fade or high draw...really any shot I can imagine.  I am so excited that the Hogan brand is making a comeback and becoming the significant brand it deserves to be.

I'll reiterate what I said when I was notified... Holy s***! That was literally my first thought. I actually got an email alert while standing in line paying for the Callaway PM Grind wedges I posted

I have a novel idea. Let's focus on congratulating the testers.   This is going to be a pretty cool experience for them and I'm really looking forward to hearing what these guys have to say.

Bribery, while generally frowned upon in polite society, is perfectly acceptable here    Seriously, there are a TON of outstanding applications.  Hope you guys are enjoying the process. Love readin

as long as I can remember I loved the look and feel of Hogan irons and I still play Hogan FTX irons and I hope these new irons will bring back a name that should always be in golf.

TESTERS WANTED - APPLY NOW

In case you haven't heard Ben Hogan Golf is back in a big way. We are looking for 6 MyGolfSpy Forum members to test the new Ft. Worth 15 irons and TK 15 Wedges. The Ft. Worth 15 irons and TK 15 wedges are forged from 1025 Carbon Steel and "incorporate a number of industry-first technologies to give more golfers a level of precision never before seen in the game". Are they worth the hype? You let us know.

As usual, we're looking for readers who can put the irons through their paces and be willing to write coherently about your experience and provide good quality photographs.

To apply you must visit the Ben Hogan Golf website and go through their HoganFit online fitting system - http://www.benhogangolf.com/HoganFit. Once that has been completed, you will need to provide the following in this thread.

  • Your HoganFit results, via a screenshot or written out, and tell us a little about your HoganFit experience
  • Your handicap
  • What the Hogan name means to you

This testing is open to those located in the Continental US. If selected you will receive a full set of Ft. Worth 15 irons and TK 15 wedges to test.

GOOD LUCK

It was very easy to answer the Hogan fit process questions.  There are so many golfers out there (including myself) that don't get fit properly or understand gapping between clubs.

I am 7 handicap that's been as low as a 1.  My problem is that I am 6'6" tall and it's hard to get fit right.  I went through the Ping fitting process one time before my club championship and didn't qualify, as I hit the supposedly "perfect fit" irons poorly.

I remember many years back that I hit some Hogan cavity back irons extremely well.  So when I saw the opportunity to be a tester, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to hopefully be a part of this.  If the irons play like I remember way back when and they are custom fit,,,,,,they will be in my bag!

In my opinion, there is no greater man of golf than Ben Hogan.  He achieved, overcame, created, and excelled like no other in the game.  I was introduced to golf in the 70's while in college.  I bought my first set of clubs at a local country club, a set of used 1959 Hogans that are still in my possession, and I pull them out each year on August 13 to play a round in honor of Mr. Hogan's birthday.  I was born August 12, 1953, one day before Mr. Hogan's birthday and perhaps his greatest year of play.  Besides my first set, I have 2 sets of Radials and a set of 1988 Redlines.  I play the Radials regularly and the Redlines frequently.  I do have some others "Hogans" that were produced when Mr. Hogan was less involved or not involved with the company, but somehow they are not quite of the same standard.   I was delighted to see that Mr. Koehler, an admirer of Mr. Hogan, and his team were bringing back the Hogan name and it appears they have done a fine job of melding modern features with time proven design.  I cannot wait to see the clubs in person and hold them in my gloveless hand.  I like the concept of gapping the clubs appropriately and matching the lofts and lies to each golfer's specific needs.  It would be a priviledge to test the clubs and share my experience with others.

The Ben Hogan “name" to me signifies everything that is right with golf.  His pure swing, his character, and the way he played the game.  You hear professionals constantly citing him as an influence in their game. I remember growing up and watching Ben Hogan play and had a set of hand me down Hogan Apex irons with Apex shafts that I hit every day in a park across the street for hours on end. I purchase a set of SCOR wedges last year, and what a difference from off the rack, and can only imagine what Terry Koehler is going to do with Ben Hogan Golf.  It would be great to be a tester, but if not chosen I'm looking forward to the feedback from others chosen as I'm very interested in this offering.

My handicap is a 14.

My association with Mr. Hogan is just realizing back in the 1960's in high school that my buddies on the high school golf team were play better than i and were using Hogan irons. I have always wanted to play Hogans and am glad that they are back on the market.

Pleas pick me!

Joe

What the Hogan name means to me: The Hogan name to me is everything golf. As a young kid, I grew up reading and swinging by Hogan's Five Lessons (aka the "golf bible"). Everything I knew about my golf swing was translated from a lesson in this book. It wasn't until I was old enough to work at the local pro shop that I had seen the Hogan brand for the first time. A shiny set of Hogan Apex forged blades that I promised myself when I was good enough I would play them one day. By the time I came close to "good enough" the Hogan line had all but disappeared. To see the re-emergence of such a beautiful set of irons in a timeless forged look is like a step back into my past, but with a modern edge to drive my yearning for golf again.

To me, Mr. Hogan is one of the greatest golfers to ever live.  His ability was probably only matched by Byron Nelson (in his era), but his courage and perseverance to come back from a career ending accident is an amazing accomplishment.  He started a great company when he retired from competitive golf and was a true innovator in club design.  I hope the new Hogan Golf company is able to live up to his legacy.

Hogan means precision. His name is the sound the club should make when the ball is struck perfectly in the center, a tribute the best ballstriker ever. As I have gotten better over the last 5 years (from a 15 handicap), I've been paying much more attention to distance control. This gets complicated when companies now introduce 27-degree 6 irons and 45-degree PWs. I know what lofts I want to play, but most major companies don't offer them any more. That's why the new Hogan system is so exciting -- I can simply choose exactly the right lofts. That's precision, and Mr. Hogan would have liked it.

Here are my results! Would love to have a chance at this review opportunity. I was just fit into the MP-H5 and really like them. I feel like I have a solid set of clubs but would be interested in seeing results of the Hogan clubs!

Handicap- 14

In terms of equipment, Ben Hogan has always been a name of lasting quality. I am always seeing guys with Apex irons. In terms of golf in general, it just doesn't get any better than the name Hogan. Legendary is about all I can say!

Thanks Ben Hogan Golf and MGS for this opportunity for the community!

My handicap is 13.
The Hogan name implies precision and perfection in my opinion. The man was like a machine. His focus and legendary work ethic truly made him one of the greatest golfers of all time.

Love this! The fitting process was a piece of cake and I love the idea of being able to tweak each club by an exact degree. It only makes sense. I also love having the set flow seemlessly into the wedges. I also think the clubs are great to look at. I would love to be able to demo these (or win a set of course).

I'm currently a self taught .6 handicap (although I think I might take some lessons this year to get to +). I'm 30 years old and play at least 4 times a week. I can't get enough of the game. I currently play a forged cavity back but I think these blades could be right up my ally.

As far as Hogan goes, he was the man. My grandfather was a scratch golfer (and still plays pretty good for being 78) and his favorite golfer was Hogan. He gave me "Five Lessons" for my 15 birthday and a set of his old apex's and my love of the game began. Without Hogan I may have never picked up the game. I hope these irons do his name proud. I have a feeling they will!

For an online profiler, the HoganFit process is a fresh approach & quite thorough. The new irons are a throw back to the Hogans of yesterday, just beautiful instruments.

The name “Hogan" means precision, consistency, quality & dig-it-out-of-the-dirt grit. The first time I went through a full iron fitting was for a set of Hogan ApexPlus & I have never played better golf with any other set. Awesome turf interaction, flighting & distance control. Sounds stupid but I actually miss the perfect 5" divots they used to carve out. I foolishly traded them in for a supposedly, more-forgiving set once I couldn't play as frequently & my iron game has never been the same.

My Current handicap is 22, trending downward.

The name HOGAN means EXCELLENCE.

Mr. Hogan was recognized world-wide as an man of EXCELLENCE.

Excellence as one of the greatest players in the history of golf which included 9 "Major Championships and 64 PGA Tour wins.

And Excellence in his second career, as the manufacturer of the highest quality golf clubs ever made.

As long as Mr. Hogan controlled the Ben Hogan Company, he placed his signature, the HOGAN name, on his products as a guarantee the products met his high standards of quality and function.

I have been a Ben Hogan fan for over 50 years. I have collected a total of 55 iron sets, 14 wood sets, 21 wedges and 14 "extra" single clubs. They range from1960 Ben Hogan Power Thrust Irons to the 2005 Ben Hogan BH-5 irons. I am in the process of playing with every set of irons and woods in my collection. It is amazing how 55 years of advanced technology and manufacturing methods have improved the playability of Ben Hogan golf clubs.

To be able to add the new Ben Hogan Fort Worth 15 irons and TK-15 wedges to my collection and put be able to them in play would be an extraordinary opportunity for me. I can only imagine how these newest edition Ben Hogan irons and wedges built to my specifications for shaft, length, lie and grips would improve my performance and lower my handicap. Thanks for the opportunity apply to win, test and review these revolutionary concept Ben Hogan golf clubs.

Best Regards,

Mike Risinger

The whole fitting process was very smooth and enjoyable, as well as informative. I currently play Ping S56 irons (4-PW) and a set of Taylormade wedges.  The fitting process informed me that I have an excessive gap between the loft of my Ping PW (47) and TM gap wedge (52).  I did have to change the shafts to specify KBS tour 90 stiff shafts as it went to default regular flex for me for some reason.  Other than that the whole thing was very easy.

My current handicap is 16, and dropping.  I practice at least once weekly, and try to play at least 2-3x per month, weekly if possible.

I do night time emergency medical work, and so typically have lots of down time in which to post reviews :).

To me, the Hogan name means uncompromising quality and no BS.  Growing up, I remember my dad's last new set of irons were Hogan Apex irons.  I am so excited that Hogan has opted to list the lofts on their irons rather than club #, very cool idea and something that I wish more companies would do.

Thanks for the consideration!

I played Hogan Apex irons from 1975 to 1992 with his apex 4 shaft - they were the best feeling irons I have ever had. I even used a 1956 Ben Hogan persimmon driver that I refinished 3 times before I bought his commemorative woods in 1976 (which I still have). I was using these clubs when I played my best in a 4 round tournament 69-68-73-69. They were great clubs. I stopped using the irons in 93 and have never had the feeling since.

I have had a good career qualifying for 3 US Senior Am Championships and shot my age since I was 65. It would be great to test the new Hogans

My first full set of woods & irons were Hogans. To me Mr. Hogan was always the epitome of golf; great swing, a humble winner and gracious loser, and an outstanding person. I had the opportunity to me him as a kid in the 60's, he even had me swing for him - what an impression that left.

My current handicap is .3 and trending flat to down based on my last few rounds.  For me the Hogan brand means excellence and it is great to have them back in the mix.  It is also refreshing to see a company produce as set of irons as customizable and fit a wide array of players.  At scratch I would put these in the bag tomorrow and would not hesitate to do that for say a 10 handicap as well; which is not something that a lot of companies can say about any of their products.
