Ben Hogan had one of the most ideal and effortless swings in the game of golf.  His swing made the game look easy!  Even today, I still go back to watch his swing in hopes to improve my own game.  Nearly 20 years ago I played the Apex irons and the quality was incredible.  Even today, you will be hard pressed to find irons that are built better than the ones I played 20 years ago.  His swing and his equipment are second to none!  HoganFit is a nice tool that really seemed to ask the right questions to prescribe the right equipment for my game.   See attached images of my prescription!

I carry a 4.2 current index and have been a fan of Mr. Hogan and the Ben Hogan brand since I read 5 Lessons almost 30 years ago.  To me Mr. Hogan and the legendary brand he created is synonymous with golf.  My first set of real clubs I ever owned were a set of Hogan Bounce Sole One Plus.  I gamed those clubs for over ten years until they were stolen in the late eighties.  I liked them so much I bought a used set online a couple years ago.  These clubs are as old as I am but a well struck ball feels like butter coming off the face.  To say I'm excited that the Ben Hogan name is being reintroduced is an understatement, I am super-pumped!  Getting my prescription for posting was easy since I already filled it out last week.  I can't wait to swing these sticks.

I grew up playing Hogan irons.  I started with the Hogan Directors, finally changing to Hogan Apex irons which I continue to play until about 3 years ago.

My Prescription is as follows (altered to reflect the KBS C-Taper shafts.  Currently have the recommended KBS Tour V shafts, but they throw the ball far too high):

My current index is 6.4

Ben Hogan was the quintessential professional.  Very blunt, but a tremendous player.  The Ben Hogan golf clubs that were originally produced were reflective of the man... precision, no frills.  It's about time that Ben Hogan is returning to the golf community.

Handicap: 13.9

Hogan to me is the embodiment of the notion that no challenge is so great that it can't be accomplished through hard work and perseverance.  Hogan is golf. Golf is life.

The HoganFit process has a couple of opportunities to improve. First, I have a mixed set - Mizuno MPH4 (3 & 4 irons), 825 pro (5-P).  The current program doesn't enable this set up.  I would also suggest asking what specific shafts are in the player's current irons - this will potentially reveal more about the swing dynamics for a recommended shaft.  I have PXi 5.5s in my current set - fitted at Mizuno's performance center in Atlanta - and with a fluid transition and constant acceleration through the ball I'm not sure I believe I need the X-Stiff.  This, combined with my current set being +.5" 2 up with Jumbo grips v. the recommended "Standard/Standard" this would be a big enough hurdle that I would likely leave the process at this point.  A note explaining the difference is in order. One last thought. The current fitting asks about trajectory, but not about a desired L-R/R-L ball flight & whether the current configuration delivers on that. Fitting impacts this & it is another opportunity to deliver a custom experience.

Thanks.  I'd love to give them a shot.

Your HoganFit “prescription” –

FW 15 Irons
20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44

TK 15 Wedges
48, 52, 56, 60

KBS Tour V stiff
+.5 in length
+1 up lie

Handicap- 24.5 per my gamegolf so I would have a great way to show how they work in a review.

Ben Hogan- One of the first golf books I ever bought and read was Ben Hogans five lessons. So I still think about the tips in the book when I play or practice. He was a little before my time to ever really see play though unfortunately.

Thanks!

To me, the Ben Hogan means: Precision, Tradition, Perfection, and Strength.  He recovered from a major car crash and returned to pure form again.  He was a perfectionist and stressed practice over everything else.  I would love to test out the new clubs!

My handicap is a 3.4 index and I am 58 years old.

I first started playing golf with other irons which included Titleist D2 and Ping Eye. After several years, I switched to Ben Hogan APEX irons which I played for over ten years. My handicap dropped from double digit to a 1 handicap of which I maintained for over 6 years. I attribute the better play to the irons. There are accurate, I could maneuver them high, low, draw and fade at will. Unbelievable tools for golf. Due to getting older (50s) and having difficulty hitting the loner irons, I switched to more forgiving irons such as Callaway XTour. Not as happy with these newer ones.

I am so looking forward to trying these new Apexs. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to come.

I consider Ben Hogan to be the best ball striker who ever lived. His irons make you feel as though your can be the best ball striker in your foursome or golf club.

When's the appropriate time to send gift baskets to the selectors?

Bribery, while generally frowned upon in polite society, is perfectly acceptable here

Seriously, there are a TON of outstanding applications.  Hope you guys are enjoying the process. Love reading through the comments, and it seems the Hogan name still has meaning in 2015.

I think I've posted this before, but a while back my youngest son asked me why I was rereading Curt Sampson's Hogan bio for something like the 5th time. I had him turn to page 261 and read the passage from Hogan's eulogy at his funeral in 1997:

"How is it that this shy, determined man aroused the admiration of so many? I think the key lies in a passage of Scripture....'Suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint.'

"That is why we have been so drawn to Ben Hogan. In him we see hope for ourselves...He never stopped battling against overwhelming odds, and his magnificent achievements signal the possibility that we can be victorious in the struggles that we face."

He's going off to college this fall - I hope he takes a little Hogan with him.

The Hogan FIt for me was very simple. As far as online tools go, this is one of the easiest I have seen. Few questions, but the key, I think was the right questions. How often do you hit approach shots with your (for me) 8 iron, inside 160. For me, that is a lot. The fitting diagnosed that my current gaps on the scoring clubs weren't spaced correctly. That was the big take away, ensuring I get accurate yardages from the short irons.

As far as the Hogan name, I can only speak of its reputation. And it is highly regarded. Both the man and the brand. Trusted is one word that comes to mind, because I think the esteem that golfers hold for Mr. Hogan, has some carry over in the products, even if someone hasn't actually used them before.

Hogan is the swing that all modern swings are based off of. If your instructor has never once said, "If you look at Hogan's swing..." then you need to find a new instructor.

Thanks for the Irons!!!

My handicap is currently 17.

The Hogan brand traditionally epitomized form + function = performance. For some players beauty lies in performance alone, for others the clubs' lines, finish and performance are equally important, and they'll view the Hogan brand's return as great news. These FW•15 irons and TK•15 wedges appear to me a modern interpretation of Hogan's 1999 Apex blades with a similar blade-on-blade design (albeit with a hint of Mizuno's MP32 Cut muscle), and a simply gorgeous satin finish.

The new website both celebrates Hogan Golf's heritage and offers a mostly excellent custom fitting process - It quite correctly identified the inconsistent distance gap issue in my game. The process is simple, focuses mainly on what's currently in your bag and how those clubs are performing for you.  Based on the distances and trajectory that you hit certain clubs, it presents a set of irons with a recommended shaft and progression of lofts. The set it presents is their recommended set; you are free to change any fitting parameter, and the pricing adjusts on the fly as you do. Shortcomings? While the grip size is pre-filled based on your selection during the fitting process, it defaults to standard lie angles and shaft lengths, apparently assuming that the user will know what lie angle and shaft length they want. Also, curiously it doesn't disclose, nor allow the user to choose swing weight.

I started playing golf as a youngster which at my age meant playing blades, until 20 years later when Ping disrupted the game of golf with their Eye and then Eye 2 irons. 12 years ago I returned to playing blades after an impulse purchase of a set of lightly used Hogan 1999 Apex blades. As much as I'd enjoyed GI irons, the Apexes just looked and felt right, and were remarkably easy to hit. They certainly challenged my long game (but only until hybrids replaced my 3 and 4 irons) but they helped my short game a lot, and my golf became more enjoyable.

Three years ago I sustained a fairly serious injury to my left foot that prevented me from playing golf for close to a year. When I did resume playing my swing was a mess, I lost much of what little length I'd had, and my handicap blew up to 20 at one point. I switched to Ping G20's which helped me regain confidence, and then last year to graphite shafted TM Speedblades, which improved my club head speed despite my still restricted swing. Now another year later my mobility and swing are improving, and I'm starting to strike the ball more solidly, and have been taking those old Apex blades to the range and out to the course for midweek practice rounds. I don't expect them to help my scoring particularly, but I am delighting in their feel and touch around the greens. But now, I'm especially intrigued by the HoganFit's recommendation of Recoil 660 graphite shafts in these FW•15's.. One way or the other I can see Hogan irons back in my bag soon!
