Worth 15 irons and TK 15 wedges are forged from 1025 Carbon Steel and "incorporate a number of industry-first technologies to give more golfers a level of precision never before seen in the game". Are they worth the hype? You let us know.

 

As usual, we're looking for readers who can put the irons through their paces and be willing to write coherently about your experience and provide good quality photographs.

Wow - these are some sweet looking clubs! What does Hogan mean? Tradition, Champion, The Golf Swing... 

 

Really curious to see if these clubs are as forgiving as the benhogangolf site claims. My handicap is 23. I've only really taken golf seriously the last couple years and have been building my swing from the ground up. For a once a week player, it takes time. It's been slow, but progress is happening!

I am 47 years old and a 1 handicap. I live in Chicago area. I learned the game of golf from the book "The 5 fundamentals." by my dad. I have had two sets of Hogans in my life. I still own a set of Apex blades. I now play Mizuno because it was the next best thing. I would love to have an opportunity to try these beauties. I have been to the Ben Hogan website numerous times. I am just trying to figure out a way to get them delivered when my wife is not home!!

 

Ben Hogan's ball striking is the closest to perfection that the game of golf has ever seen. Everyone has to wonder how many majors Hogan would have won if not for the terrible car accident. There are two famous quotes I love by Hogan. 1) He (Fleck) must be good, he uses Hogan clubs." 2) "Your name is the most important thing you own. Don't ever do anything to disgrace or cheapen it."  I can only imagine that reviving this iconic brand, Mr. Koehler will make sure the name Ben Hogan will once again be held in the highest regard. Thanks for bringing Ben Hogan back!!

Hogan means golf to me.  When you think about a swing it is Hogan that you think of.  My first golf book was Hogan's Five Lessons.  I started playing later in life and being a huge sports fan I felt it necessary to go back a read about the greats, can't know the sport unless you know the history, so that I could really know the game.  My first golf buddy had the Apex irons and I always wished I could afford those when "I got better" but when I got more into golf the Hogan clubs weren't available in the stores I visited.  This would check one more thing off my golf bucket list.

Mr. Hogan exemplify the near perfection in this game of golf.  His work ethic and determination is not matched by anyone else.  It also showed his demand for the same level in his Golf equipment production philosophy.

I own and play the equipment bearing his name for years.  It would be great to test out the new Hogan brand to see if the tradition had been carried on.

I currently play off a handicap of 19.

 

The name Hogan means a lot to me having grown up through playing Golf on various computer consoles and having to beat Ben Hogan after multiple attempts to advance through the game. I am not old enough to remember his era of the game but I guess that makes it even more intriguing to see the whole world of Golf respect a man I never once saw on my telly. I am a high handicapper, so I believe my input into a review could give MyGolfSpy a unique section within the blog, to see if the Irons could be used by a player of m calibre. Golf in the UK does not get the importance and prestige available in the States, and the prospect of not having to pay extortionate shipping/cargo costs to get hold of these 'highly reviewed' clubs would be a miracle. I believe the of reviewing on UK courses compared to US courses would also be a key influence on your readers. Finally, the name Hogan is immediately known as a legend, but to have a remembrance of a legend would instantly make it all worth it.

Hogan has always meant "the best". I've played Hogan irons as long as I've been playing golf, and I still play a set of 1999 Apex Plus irons. I started on the Edge, moved on to Apex blades in 97, then on to the Apex Plus in 2000. I've been playing them since. I've tried a number of other irons over the years, but never really found anything I liked more than my Hogans.

 

I'm really happy to finally see a manufacturer who is standing up to the number racket that has been going on for the past couple decades. Lower lofts and longer shafts, just so I can hit a six further and further, is just silly. It's great to see someone finally embrace what irons are really for, hitting the ball a specific distance, repeatedly.

 

I think Mr. Hogan would be proud.

Exciting promotions.  I am a 3 handicap who first started playing golf with Hogan Apexs.  Hogan was the equipment contract at the course I grew up playing in Roswell GA, with the head pro, Tom Smith, being a devout Hogan disciple.  There was the famous photo of Hogan on 18 at Merion hanging in the pro shop and when I asked Tom why was this picture so famous he told me that it was to win the US Open.  For many years I thought Hogan holed out from the fairway in "walkoff" fashion.  

 

All throughout my junior golf career I played Hogan's and still have my first set collecting dust in the attic.  Whenever I see an old set in a used golf store it brings back so many great memories to my time learning how to play this game and being young.  If I was chosen as a tester for this promotion it would mean a great deal to me to revisit my childhood days spending countless hours learning to hit those old apexs.  If not, I will seek out these clubs to demo eventually and think about what the Hogan brand gave me, a love affair for golf.

[]As always, I would like to participate. But as opposed to always, this would only be rivaled to Nike calling me for a personal fitting and custom set of clubs, as far as excitement for me goes. 

 

 

 

So my handicap is still a 20. While not great, I will say it has come down 16 strokes from a year and a half ago. If the average handicap is an 18 for an American rec golfer, I am close to the middle of the pack. So i will say that I am almost the Average Joe. Yet here on MGS, it seems we have slightly better than average players if you read handicaps on profiles. 

 

What does Ben Hogan mean to me?

 

As I mentioned when someone asked about left-handed Hogans, my father played Hogans. Since I didn't play left handed, i never had a chance to play the Hogans even though my dad would always praise them. As with many fathers and sons, I wanted (and still do want) to be like my father in many ways.  And as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I always wanted to be able to say I played the same gear my father did. 

 

That was all in my younger years. Now I have been playing almost two years. I've read. I've learned my history. Ive played Tiger Woods PGA tour '14 (dont laugh! you would be impressed the history of the game included in that). Even though the name sat in moth balls for a while, Hogan has ALWAYS meant quality and a higher standard.  Are there other golf legends that have names on clubs? yeah. When was the last time you saw people getting excited for the new Golden Bear clubs? When did they ever? There have always been golfers who got paid to have their name on clubs. How many of those pros were intimately tied to the design and production and delivery of the gear that bears their name? When Mr. Hogan started the company/name brand, he did all of that. 

 

Yeah, the name was put on storage for a while. Now, it has been picked up by a company that believes in it as much as Ben did. That is exciting. There is as much excitement about using the name as there is in producing the gear that the name is going on. Not a lot of that lately. There is too much of companies just putting out gear with this years name on it. Nothing indicates that Hogan will ever follow this all too rampant trend. 

 

Finally, in interest of full disclosure, I have never had the means to have the top of the line gear out there. This would be like one of those Make A Wish things for me. Until recently, you hear of golfers talking about having irons that they have played for 10 years. It sounds like I could join that group with these. I would love that. 

 

I will play 4 rounds a month with these for as long as is needed to give the data and review that the staff and members of MGS expect.

My HoganFit experience was quite precise when it came to my lofts. I currently game Mizuno JPX 800 Pros 4-PW and have them bent weak 1-2 degrees, giving me equal 4 degree gaps, with PW at 47, then have my GW at 50, SW at 55 and LW at 60. My HoganFit analysis almost exactly matched my 4i-PW and I like my 5 degree wedge gapping, so I kept it. I've done the SCOR fitting before, but always had to alter the answers based on standard JPX 800 pro lofts ( my 8 iron is a closer to Mizuno's 9 iron loft specs. I appreciate how this was addressed in the HoganFit process. My only issue was it recommended stiff flex shafts, when I've been fit into x stiff, but that wasn't a big deal.

 

I would love to give these a play. Like most golfers, I fall into the 15+ handicap range, and truth be told, I don't play enough currently to carry an official handicap. I usually shoot in the mid 90s, sometimes better, sometimes "greater." I've been following these irons since I saw their announcement and was bummed that Hogan irons weren't at the demo days in Sacramento last weekend. If I am lucky enough to be chosen, I will make the time to give the clubs a thorough playing and thoughtful review, from the high (unofficial) capper perspective

To me, Hogan defines commitment: to excellence, to working on your craft ( golf or otherwise), and to doing things right. Destroying the first run of his clubs because they didn't meet his exacting standards, knowing and playing his game so well that he didn't carry a 7 iron at a U.S. Open at Merion because " there are no 7 iron shots at Merion," and throwing himself in front of his wife just before a head-on collision, these are but a few examples of his conviction.

 

To hear golf pros today talk about how beautiful and fluid his swing was, all done without the high speed computerized-video feedback paired with a golf/fitness/flexibility/nutritionist/mental-game/cardiovascular/strengthening coach goes to show how much he put into his game.

 

For these clubs to carry his name, let alone his signature, they must be something very special.

I'm a 12 Handicap and to me, Hogan means a beloved memory of growing up learning to play the game.  My father taught me the game of golf with a very old, cut down set of his clubs (I'm sure he used it as an excuse to purchase a new set of his own!).  Following the lessons from Ben Hogans Five Lessons, The Modern Fundamentals of Golf, my father improved his game while at the same time teaching me to pursue ball-striking excellence.  I worked day and night and learned a work ethic my father said Ben Hogan would be proud of. After spending years practicing, and playing with that old set of cut down clubs I came home one day to find my dad had purchased my very first complete set of clubs including a a gleaming, slightly used set of Hogan Apex PC Irons, 2-Iron through Equalizer.  I could hardly contain myself and immediately thanked my father by asking if we could head back out to the range to keep practicing.  The memory of receiving those irons is what has kept me playing and enjoying this great game and its the reason I will pass the game on to my children, hopefully, with a used set of Hogans when the time is right.

Really hoping to be picked here. I am a 13 handicap who currently uses game improvement mizuno jpx-825 irons but am finally ready to make the move into players irons. In my opinion no better way to make that switch than using Ben Hogan irons! Love this game.

This online fitting tool is interesting. It didn't really take much time to fill out, yet it provided some interesting results. It chose the same shafts I currently use on my mizzies which I like, but it seemed to ignore that I am bent flat 2*. Another interesting result was the wedges at 50,54,58, and 62! Huh? I know! I guess hey feel I would score better with more "short" clubs. I wonder how long it will take to get used to "degrees", rather than "numbered" clubs.

 

So what does Hogan mean to me? As a golf club, very little. They can't be as good as my mizuno's can they? I have hit my friends Apex CB irons before. They were aight, ya know? A nice solid club. But I was hitting mp33's at that point, and nothing is a cleaner slice of butter than a pured 33, so why change?

However the name Hogan, as a man, is quite a different story. We all know the remarkable story of his career, so I won't waste your time with that. But that's still not what crosses my mind when I hear the name "Hogan".

What I get is a video playing in my head of his swing, complete with the cigarette hanging from his lips lol. Little things, like a lower backswing, right foot kicked out a bit, and the same release, shot, after shot, after shot. He had a subtle yet powerful weight transfer that stood up on the left side at contact that was so pure. I think he could have had a "slinky" for a shaft, and still been able to smooth out a 260 yd drive.

So it's the man, rather than the stix, that is what I think of when I hear the name Hogan.

3. Most importantly, what the name “Hogan” means to you

 

What does Ben Hogan mean to me? Greatness, period.

 

 My favorite clubs that I've ever played are my Hogan Apex Edge Pro Irons and I've played with them all. This is the only set of irons that I've ever kept… they're still sitting in my garage. It's fun to get them out from time to time for old time sake. For some reason I feel attached to these clubs. I hit Adams now and they have been a good change for me. I am very intrigued by the Hogan brand and very glad to see that your back in the market. If chosen to partake in your test program, I'm sure I will end up loving these irons. Heck, if I could afford them, I would just by-pass this program and just buy them. That's a lot of $$ to hide from the wife!

The HoganFit experience was amazing.  I really liked how it showed the gaps in my current equipment, and how these clubs could help fill those voids. 
 
HOGAN: The name Hogan is synonymous with TEXAS GOLF. Perseverance is a word that comes to mind when I think of Hogan. He won 9 of 16 majors he competed in from 1946 – 1953. Sandwiched in between all of these major victories was a wreck that should have cost him his life. He modernized the golf swing, and his fundamentals are still widely used by many of the top 100 instructors today.  I loved my Hogan Apex Plus irons, and was heartbroken to hear the brand was going away.  These irons appear to be something Mr. Hogan would have proudly stamped his name on.  He was an inovator, and these irons seem to be a very cutting edge concept and very well thought out.
