alfriday101
What a terrific opportunity. I have been excited about the Hogan irons since I first heard about them. I currently play SCOR wedges and they are the first clubs I have been passionate about in years. I was hoping for irons with the same design philosophy as the wedges—it looks like my wishes have come true. 1. My current handicap is 9.6. 3. The Hogan name means several things to me. First, I think of the man Ben Hogan. He was able to overcome great adversity in his life to climb to the pinnacle of his profession. He was more than just one of the best to play the game; he sought to expand the game and to provide instruction and advice to those who did not have his experience. His books remain must-reading for today's golfers. Second, I think of the Hogan clubs made under his watchful eye. He was demanding of himself, and he demanded that the clubs that carried his name be the best. The stories of his attention to detail are those of legend, from rejecting the first run of irons even at great expense to the innovation in club and shaft design. Third, I think of the reborn Hogan Company and Terry Koehler. Terry has long been known as The Wedge Guy. Perhaps we should start referring to him simply as The Club Guy. I have followed Terry's blog and I agree with his philosophy regarding accuracy and precision, of needing more scoring clubs and fewer long clubs, of the need to bring sanity back to club lofting. With the new clubs, we have that philosophy in action.
Richie3Jack
Current Handicap: +0.6 What the Hogan name means to me: The ultimate in quality, precision and class in golf. It starts with Mr. Hogan's swing and goes thru everything he did from his classic dress style to his signature and eventually to his equipment. Mr. Hogan was very proud of his name and what it stood for, so you knew that when his name was attached to the equipment, it was a guarantee that the customer would be provided with the finest quality and precision that equipment has to offer. 3JACK Author of Pro Golf Synopsis. dlsmithlaw
Wow! That's about all that needs to be said about this opportunity. Hogan is synonymous with precision golf. I have played golf on and off for about 35 years and I still to this day will go back and look at my old Hogan golf books and I'm still amazed when I see the old videos of Hogan's "rifle" shots. I would love the opportunity to try these irons and give my feedback. I anxiously awaited the unveiling when I heard that Hogan was coming back. I grew up playing with Hogan clubs. However, as I got older I moved away as I bought into the marketing of the "big" companies. I stopped playing golf for several years due to some injuries. When I returned to golf a couple of years ago, I felt that I wouldn't be able to play forged/players clubs. So, I got some semi game improvement clubs. However, it just doesn't feel the same. A strength of my game was always my short irons, but with the GI clubs I just don't feel like I can control the ball like I used to be able to. I really appreciate the concept of the Hogan irons and I really want to give them a try. I do have a few scor wedges in my bag to fill some gaps and I truly notice a difference. So, please pick me to be a part of this club test. beanjgolf
beanjgolf handicap 2.2 If I could have one dream day in golf, it would be to watch Ben Hogan hit balls from sun up to sun down. Being pretty much self-taught myself (at least until after I became a scratch player many years ago), I can really appreciate how Mr. Hogan "dug it out of the dirt". My first set of premium irons was a set of Hogan Apex, 2-W, Apex 4 shaft, purchased in 1973 or 1974. I played with those clubs for many years until like a fool, I traded them for something not nearly as good. I have always regretted getting rid of those clubs. Even though I am now about to turn 60, I still have as much passion for the game as ever. Although the distance has faded a bit, my putting and iron play have held up well. Being somewhat technologically challenged, I did not know how to do a "screen shot", so I copied and pasted the page from the Hogan fitting site as best I could. Congratulations, Jim. andre2you
Handicap: 10-12 I had a set of Hogans quite a few years ago and they were awesome clubs until I got caught up in the new technology movement and how it was supposed to lower my score, HA, it didn't! The Hogan name meant quality and here's a player iron with-out the OMG no-one can hit these clubs stigma. I currently play Scor wedges and have been quoted saying and asking "If Scor made irons and they played with the ease of their wedges, they would be in my bag". Unfortunately at the time Scor didn't make a full iron set and I was lucky enough to get a set of Nike MMProto's so I own them now. If I am lucky enough to be chosen as a tester and the Hogan's performed better than the MMProto's you would see the Nike's up on eBay and a set of Hogan's in my bag. Dave N
Ben Hogan was the perhaps the hardest working golfer in the history of the game. I greatly admire the tenacity that he showed in "digging his game out of the dirt." While age is having a negative impact on my golf game ( 15 hdcp), I continue to try to get better all the time by doing the same. I would like to try these new clubs because I feel like they would help my game. Whether I am picked or not, I wish the new Ben Hogan Golf Company the best in entering a very competitive golf market. I still have an old set of Hogan Edge GS models from back in the early 80"s. If the new clubs are better than those, they will be something special. Best of luck!! Batman
Handicap: 5 To me, Hogan is golf. As a self taught golfer from a less than privileged background, Hogan's background spoke to me like no other public figure, golf or otherwise. His work ethic, perseverance and no-nonsense approach to life set the archetype that I tried to emulate in golf and life. I was originally attracted to Hogan because I was given a set of Hogan Jr. golf clubs and I wanted to learn more about the man whose name was on my clubs. The stories about how his perfectionism and no-compromises approach permeated the Hogan brand made me feel like he had crafted those irons just for me. That same feeling continued as I graduated to a hand-me-down set of Hogan Edges, followed by Hogan GCD's, and finally the Spalding 1999 Hogan Apex blades when my handicap got to scratch. Life forced me to essentially give up regular golf about 12 years ago and my handicap has drifted up to about a 5/6, but those Hogan Apex blades are still in my bag. I have the opportunity (finally) this season to pick the game back up on a regular basis and I was toying with the idea of buying Callaway Apexes just to maintain some connection to the lineage that I have always felt so connected to. It feels serendipitous that the actual Hogan name will grace a new set of irons at the same time that I will be playing regularly again.
^@#Papa
Hogan Fit Results: Tour-V Stiff +.25 2* Up Ben Hogan Performance Plus - Standard Lofts: 22,26,30,34,38,42,46,50,55,60 Index: 2.8 I thought the fitting experience was clever. I like that it prefers a 4 wedge bag as that is my preference as well. I find my self constantly modifying my bag setup adding and dropping the 3 iron based on course setup and sometimes going to a 3 wedge bag. By being able to fine-tune the bag makeup I can create a weak 3/strong 5 combination that will allow me to settle on 14 full-time clubs. On Ben Hogan: For me, Ben Hogan is about fundamentals and finding perfection, again and again. When I was about 12 I took my grandfather's old set of Sam Snead Reminder Grip irons down to the local sports field to try them out. It was mostly a lesson in humility but after some tips from my grandfather and trying to emulate the pros i saw on tv, I started to figure it out. The best thing about learning golf through an honest set of clubs is you get honest results and critical feedback. I used those old Sneads throughout my teens until I purchased my first set which I used for another ten years bringing my handicap down to the mid single digits. Frustrated by stalled improvement I started playing game improvement clubs in the hope of getting to the next level. It didn't work, and, over time I lost my feel for translating the desired ball flight with the proper swing, replaced by the dullness of hitting. So one night I pulled out those old Sneads and went to the range and again it was a lesson in humility, but, it was also a rediscovery of why I've loved this game for nearly 30 years. For the last couple of years I've been working on the fundamentals, from grip and tempo to playing shots and managing a round. I've also had the pleasure in playing some pretty good sets of irons, but just haven't found the perfect set yet. I think these Hogan's are exactly what I've been looking for. The v-sole is ideal for the Mid-Atlantic course conditions I experience. The blend of sweat-spot forgiveness and muscle back thump brings a smile to face just thinking about pulling one from my bag. I'm very much looking forward to putting these in practice and play. Best, James
Rfenton92
My name is Robby Fenton. I am a a plus 2 handicap and PGA Professional. The Hogan name is one that means a lot because of Mr. Hogan himself. He was one of the few true owners of the golf swing which is why his brand did so well for so many years. Mr. Hogan was as pure of a ball striker as there ever was and he was able to cater his equipment to all players and handicaps. The Hogan brand is one that projects greatness because of his achievements. I as a low handicapper demand precision and accuracy with all of my equipment which is what I believe your new company will provide. If chosen, I believe I would be able to give solid feedback on your new fit system and how it works for me, along with my professional opinion of how it would work for the average golfer. Digging In The Dirt
1. HoganFit prescription. Standard Length, Lie, Grip Size KBS Tour V Stiff Shaft, Ben Hogan Performance Plus Grip Irons: 21, 25, 29, 33, 37, 41, 45 Wedges: 49, 53, 57, 60 I thought the HoganFit website was pretty straight-forward. I was a little disappointed that the "Hogan" website didn't have a more frequent option than "weekly" for the question of how often you practice. Where's the "everyday rain or shine" option? At a minimum, copy the options from the question before it. Also, I currently play a split set, Mizuno MP-4/64, but that's not an option that you can enter. My guess is there are a lot of others that play a split set of irons, so it makes me wonder how accurate the online assessment really is, or is this a question that's really just trying to see who's at least interested, so you can better focus the next wave of marketing. I also found it interesting that there were only six listed wedge brands. I guess the Hogan folks aren't too big on my Cobra Tour Trusty wedges. Other than that, it was pretty easy to use and I really liked that you could retrieve your prescription. 2. Handicap 11.5 3. What the Hogan name means to me. Personally, I believe the Hogan name stands for the search for perfection, through hard work. I'm 43 years old and, as my handicap above would indicate, playing golf for a living is a little out of reach for me. In short, I'm not a great golfer...yet! Of course, I'm working like heck to get there. I just got back from the range, hitting shot after shot, looking for something promising, however small it may seem, to build upon when I go back again tomorrow, and then next day, and so on and so on, whether it's windy or hot or cold. Often, I look to Mr. Hogan for inspiration, as I work hard to build my swing, and more importantly as I look for the inspiration to continue working on it when it feels like I'm not making any progress. Like most golf nuts, I have a ton of golf clubs, but I only keep three in my den. My favorite of those is the Hogan Thins persimmon 4 wood. It's the best looking, sounding, and feeling club I've ever hit. To me, it provides a constant reminder that with you can find what you're looking for if you look for it long enough, and maybe one day I finally figure things out. Finally, as I continue to search for perfection in my golf swing, I know that the only hope for success is through hard work, as Mr. Hogan demonstrated. If I'm going to put that much work into my golf game, I want to know that the golf clubs I'm using are as close to perfection as they can possibly be. Of course, they would have to be if the Hogan name was on them. Thanks for the chance!
