BRDGOLFING
Lets find out who has been able to sit back & say " I have finally hit a milestone", " I have accomplished something great" .......! This can be anything from a low score to a hole in one. Tournament wins to the least amount of putts in a round! Playing with a pro to getting a eagle from the fairway. I and hopefully others will like to read about things like this from our fellow golfers. Lets tell our stories, relate and congratulate. Keep it nice and clean. Some folks accomplishments and milestones might mean more to them than others. In the bag! DaveP043
Last summer, I shot 2-under 70 in the first round of our Senior Championship. I've never been under par in a tournament, although I have a couple of times in casual play, with my lowest ever being 2-under 69 at Talamore in Southern Pines. That was a historic day. I shot 76 the next day, finally losing on the 3rd sudden death hole. BRDGOLFING
My greatest accomplishment was at the age of 12. I played golf at that age day in and day out unless I was at school. I was a lucky kid at that age to be able to live on a golf course and have parents support me golfing. There are many kids that would love it but are not supported enough. With that being said. I woke up one morning to play in the Valdosta Junior championship. It was split up into age groups. We played the senior tees. Besides the 16 to 18 age group which played the blue tees. My father dropped me off around 6:00 am. It was still dark because he had to go to work. So I hit a few putts in the lights and hit a bucket of balls when it became daylight. At this age, I was just happy to be golfing period. Not once did I think I was a big threat to anyone because I was like a 10 handicap from the senior tees at my home course and some of these guys were a lot better. I teed off to start the fun day of golf. I hit my first drive perfect and long for my age and then hit the best 3 wood shot ever over the water in front of the green and landed it about 6 feet from the whole and it stopped about 15 feet away. I couldn't believe that I could be that lucky. I made the putt for eagle. Right then and there I gained more confidence and lost a good bit of my nervousness when playing around people I did not know. I went on to finish the 18 with a 4 under par 68 and second overall low score. First low overall score was a 67 shot by a 17 year old from Douglas, Georgia. I have never shot that low since then. Lol! That was my best moment as a individual player in my stretch of golfing. Maybe one day I can do that again. In the bag! sp0rtsfan86
I've hit two eagles. Both from fairways. One a 60 degree wedge that rolled in and the other 9 iron that went about 140 and rolled in after rolling forever. Best round is an 80 although the 82 was better because it was in a tournament, pouring rain, and on the back I shot 1 over somehow and 3 putted 18 for the bogey. That stretch of golf was unreal. mizuno_lover
My most satisfying accomplishment happened a couple of years ago. I had had spinal surgery (a fusion of some lumbar vertebra) and was making a return to golf. Initially my Wednesday Club had given me a sympathy handicap of 27 and by the time the Championships for that year came around I had whittled it down to 20. The Championship is conducted over three rounds at our home course and the winners names of the various grades(A,B & C) as well as the over all champion go up on the honour board for posterity. What we call here a "Board Event". I had never achieved that and wanted to be the B grade champion for that year. My game was getting better and I thought it was achievable but there was a guy playing off 18 who is known to be a "home course" specialist who was the favourite to be the B grade champ. I think he went into the final round maybe 2 shots up and I had pegged him back and we were level going into the back nine. We were both playing incredibly well that day and the tension was palpable. I think we both shot 38 on the front nine 2 over par and it felt like it was only a matter of time before one of us blinked. The 14th hole proved to be the turning point. I was gaming a Burner Superfast 10.5 degree driver at the time that I averaged about 250 metres with. The 14th is a downhill par five with a fairway that cambers/slopes to the right and a drive that lands in the middle will often finish in the first cut on the right hand side. I nailed my drive and that is exactly what happened. I had about 170 metres to the centre of the green and hit a 3 hybrid that apparently landed short of the green and rolled up to about 10 feet and I rolled in the putt to make my first eagle in competition and completely ripped the heart out of my opponent. I went on to finish the last 4 holes in birdie, birdie, bogey, par to finish with a gross 75, 3 over par and a net 55. Needless to say I won the B Grade Championship that year and got my name up on the board. My erstwhile opponent is still receiving counselling for post traumatic stress and is said to visibly shake when he walks onto the 14th green. Whilst it was great to win and achieve those goals it was kind of embarrassing to shoot that low a score on that handicap. It was also the first time I had broken 80 on that course and since getting out of the army. Now that I'm writing about it there's a lot of firsts that I achieved, it was an amazing day. I have since had 2 holes in one, and won an A grade net championship losing the over all championship by 2 shots but they all pale into insignificance when I think about that day. Great topic BRDGolfing and thanks for the opp to share it. Brings back some very good memories. My Bag Driver: G25 Stiff shaft3 Wood: JPX 850 16 degree. Undershooter
Well I played the best tournament golf of my short career this weekend. Me and my partner shot 68 Saturday in fourball which is nothing impressive. Me with a 74 or 75 on my card, again nothing impressive. We got grouped into the championship flight which I didn't expect and were 7 off the lead. Fourball again Saturday on a different course and long story short I got a little help from my partner but not much. We shot 65 which was good enough to make a comback and finish 3rd overall. I shot 68 on my own card which is my lowest round in competition to date. This included a birdie birdie finish to take 3rd place by a shot. It was a fun weekend. Jfthee
I know this may sound kinda cheesy but honestly every single time I am able to tee it up it's a huge accomplishment. Doctors told me by this time in my life I wouldn't be walking, that I would be in a wheel chair. At 6 months old I contracted Polio and it completely paralyzed my right leg. I have to wear a full leg brace from my foot all the way to him hip on my right leg. Since I know my Golf days are limited and there will be a day when I can no longer play I make sure to take full advantage of the time I do have. I love this game more then I could ever say. Kenny B
Most memorable would have to be shooting 69 at the Arnold Palmer course at the Marriott Desert Ridge Wildfire GC. It was a fluke. I have never broken 80 before. Probably my biggest accomplishment has been getting my HCP back to 9. Before my knee replacement 18 months ago, I had ballooned up to 14.1 because I couldn't get to my lead side. I just wanted to play no matter what. After surgery, I spent quite a bit of time practicing my short game and going back to the fundamentals of my swing. By the end of last summer I was down to 11.2 I was wondering if I needed to update my avatar hcp, but since we started posting scores on March 1, I have had several scores in the 70's and I can now say that as of May 15 I am officially a 9.0 again! But a few bad scores in the high 80's can quickly take care of that!!! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
