My current gamer has a few scratches on the crown and I was thinking about using sand paper to strip the paint and give it a "raw" look. I've done it with a black TM putter and it looks great... My concern is, does leaving the head with a raw finish affect peformance? The only reason I ask is because I remember reading in some manufacturer used some kind of "speed coating" to increase clubhead speed, yada yada... Will the lack of smooth paint create more drag? Swing weight changes, etc.? Any info is highly appreciated. RookieBlue7 Posted May 15, 2015 Share Posted May 15, 2015 Speed coating is a fancy way of saying "matte paint" (most I've seen are always matte). To answer your other question, no you won't effect performance in any manner by removing the paint. No paint is going to make you swing faster nor the shaft unload harder (which is what increases swing speed). You'll be fine. And before anyone mentions it, it won't rust either because most are titanium with some being a titanium face cup with carbon fiber bodies.
