Kenny B
Well, my mom called and Dad had a stroke. After the ER he spent 4 days in one hospital, then he was transferred to another hospital for rehab. He was there for 2 weeks, and came home last Tuesday. I live about 300 miles away and came to take care of him because my mom is not able to do it by herself. I'm an only, so no help there. Not sure how long this will be, but he needs to get some strength and coordination back in his right arm and leg. Once we get into a routine, I may be able to slip out for a quick nine. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Kenny B
Many thanks guys. I appreciate it very much. It's a struggle trying to keep Dad's spirit up. He has improved greatly since he had the stroke, but he thinks he should be much improved in just days. This will take longer than that. Since that part of the brain no longer functions, other parts of the brain has to learn how to control the body. I can understand his frustration. My brain used to know how to swing a club correctly, but now it seems like I'm learning all over again! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
sp0rtsfan86
Sorry my friend. Sometimes a quick 9 is a good way to escape and put things in perspective in a case like this. (When I didn't get a job and got passed over on one that's right where I went.) In this case, just remind him of baby steps. Look where you were a week ago compared to today. My advice is be there and understand it's tough, but don't be afraid to leave if you have to get some air. The worst thing that you can do is lose yourself in the madness of the times, sometimes escaping and coming back is the only way to tackle issues. Also I wish him my best for his recovery. Blade
Hope the best for him. We moved my mom in with us who has M.S. to help my sister take care of her. It wasn't easy. She got to the point after getting sick and almost dying that there was no way to do it at home anymore. That's tough too. But for a stroke, I've seen a guy who's son I worked with, recover from one that really messed him up. It doesn't happen overnight, but he's back where you wouldn't know it happened. So if he can be mentally prepared to be patient and expect it to be a process that takes some time, he'll get there. I haven't been through that with someone myself. But I was surprised at how well someone can recover from something so devastating.

I'm so sorry that I missed this thread. If you wanted me to include your Dad on our prayer chain and also in the congregational prayers, send me a PM with his name and it's done. I've just said a prayer for your family already. As a word of encouragement strokes are difficult things but people do recover from them.. Handel had a massive stroke about three years prior to writing the Messiah. That's the Oratorio that the Hallelujuah Chorus comes from for those who don't know it. There were no Physical or Occupational therapists back then and medicine was basically restricted to sticking a leach on it. I pray that your Dad has that type of recovery. Kenny B
Thanks again to all of you guys. Dad had never been in a hospital until a couple of years ago. He's 84. So, he just doesn't like not being able to get around like he used to. That's what depressing him. But he is making improvement, just not as fast as he would like. I am going to see if I can get out on a course tomorrow. We have an in-home therapy coming in the morning and I should be able to leave while they're here. There's a course in Corvallis, OR, Trysting Tree, and the pro is from my town in WA State. Might go say HI. Keep up the posts guys. Reading them gives me something to do during the day. Regarding the last couple of weeks, try to keep them non-confrontational please.
