mbrodeur86
This is fantastic! Just another reason to be a golf fan and support such a great site! U.S. Open week is so awesome. Cannot wait to see who takes it. People are saying that Chambers is very "links" like so I'm picking a European to win it all this year. txgolfjunkie
This seems to be a type of course that Justin Rose would thrive on plus he's playing well as of late. I don't see Tiger or Phil contending. I don't see Tiger making the cut. I could see someone like Hideki Matsuyama, Robert Streb or Jason Day in contention on Sunday. But if I had to pick a winner...Bobby...I'd go with Chris Kirk. hckymeyer
I wanted to pick Tiger for my fantasy team so bad, but after being burned the last few tourney's he's played in I'm finally facing the facts. He just isn't able to compete at this time. I hope he proves me wrong, there is nothing more exciting than a Sunday with Tiger in the hunt, but I just don't think he can do it this time. I'd love to see lefty finally win one, but my pick for the week is DJ if he can putt, if he can't he doesn't have a chance either. Glftips
This has to be the most interesting Open in a long time because of the unusual circumstance on this course. I look for short game strengths as a major plus this week. Rose, Speith, Furyck come to mind. Most of us do not know much about this course so it will be fun. Kenny B
I believe all of the usual biggies will do well. I even think Tiger has as much of a chance as anyone else, and the members here will tell you that I am not really a Tiger fan. He has a pretty good imagination and this course requires a lot of imagination. I like Rickie, but if anyone can put together 4 good rounds on this course, it's Sergio... or he will crash and burn. Would love to see one of the local guys do well, of course. I am glad to see a U.S. Open on a public course AND in the Pacific Northwest. I just wonder how much of a story it will be on getting people to the event. Logistics are awful! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
fozcycle
I found this article today......did not know that an Alternate Candidate could not play the course.....I think that is a stupid rule. UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – USGA chief Mike Davis made headlines a few weeks ago when he said that U.S. Open success would come only to those who became extremely familiar with Chambers Bay. Those showing up and only playing a couple practice rounds will not fare well. Clint Rice was out for a casual practice round Tuesday with fellow Aussie Geoff Ogilvy, trying to gather course knowledge until his clubs were confiscated by a USGA official on the 13th hole, according to a report from the Australian AP. Rice, No. 1188 in the Official World Golf Ranking, is an alternate after attempting to qualify last week in Ohio. Alternates are not allowed to play a practice round although they are allowed to use all tournament practice facilities. A USGA official told the Australian AP that Rice had been given information that told him he was not allowed to play Chambers Bay. “It's a big silly if you're not holding anybody up or interfering with their practice,†Ogilvy told the Australian AP. “I'd get it if there were no spots available for players in the field. But this wasn't the case here. “It's a shame because we were having a good time and he seemed like a really good bloke.†Rice did not give a comment to the Australian AP. Chris O.
I don't see why Mike Davis is getting so much crap this week over how they have rotating par on holes. I think it adds just that extra little thought that the players have to think about. I just don't think the best players in the world will have to worry about hat too much. Krismond30
I love the US Open. Always a challenging course to play from tall rough to hard fairways to undulation greens. Sschaffer24
So pumped for the U.S. Open. I just hope I can watch it as much as I'd like to! Work schedule makes it pretty damn tough, so having a thread to follow with coverage is awesome! MGS is really taking things to the next level! I, for one am heavily pulling for Tiger. I don't expect him to win, but I'd love to see him in contention. Arguably the best golfer to ever play, it's so sad to see his game go where it is. Lovers and Haters of the man, everyone has to agree with him playing at his best, golf is a much better game! But all of the other storylines that are out there are awesome to watch as well! Myself, I would love to see Ricky win it. Watching that finish at the players was just... Wow. One of the best (maybe the best?) tournaments I've watched.
