I think that Tiger and Ricky need to play a match within their group today.  $10 grand per hole...it may keep them interested and it may make them actually play better.

I'd actually like it to stay calm for today and then let the wind blow all weekend long. In an ideal world yesterdays morning pairings would experience the same conditions today that the afternoon pairing had and vice versa.

I hope Fox has finished showing all there comercials yesterday so we can watch golf.

No chance...they need to show as many commercials as they can so they can cover what they paid to acquire the USGA events!

Thoughts so far after watching all day yesterday both on TV and Streaming.

The Course: I am digging the course and selection of it by the USGA. Love that it is public and something I have a chance to play one day rather than some exclusive private club that I could never get on. The US is a diverse place with so many different courses around the country and the selection of courses should reflect that. Yes the greens and course are different, that is the point and appeal. I love watching and seeing the players have to choose which option to go with (they actually have choices) in their shots rather than just hit it toward the pin.

The Coverage: I think FOX is doing  a great job, especially the streaming. I love the ball tracer on almost every hole, I love seeing the curves of the shots. They need to be a little better in the control room switching to the action but this is there first year. I watched on Fox1 and Fox and noticed a huge difference in the quality of the image in the 2 networks. FOX was much more crisp and HD than Fox1. Think it would be the same but it wasn't.

The Play: Awesome. Love how the players are adjusting to the course as they play, they have to take the good and bad and the layout of the course makes for some exciting shots (Ricky's almost hole in one on the par 4 etc). One thing is you cant let the round get away from you. Get a double, fine just be patient and don't try anything stupid and you will be fine

Romo shot 84 in that golf digest challenge a few years back. I'd bet my car you wouldn't break 90.

Give me a week on the course and I think I would have a new car. I don't mind playing that length course. Last year in the local pga event, I played the course the pros played the week before they played it. They actually had to cut the rough a little and slow the greens down after the practice round bc they said it was too hard for a regular tournament. I shot 78 that day from the tips and I had never played that course before. That 78 included 2 lost balls 5 yards off the fairway bc the rough was so long and thick. I wouldn't lose those with spectators there. I generally play well on hard golf courses and when I have be really imaginative.

With all that said, who knows I may shoot 100 :D I guess we will never know.

I'm sure you already know this, but golfing with your buddies and playing in a competitive professional or even amateur event is apples and oranges my friend.

I use Romo for the simple fact that not only is he a professional athlete, but he has won numerous golf tournaments including a prestigious amateur event in IL. Tony and I both went to EIU (he a senior when i was a freshman) and guys on the golf team would tell stories on how good he was at golf. The coach even said that he could definitely have played on the team if football didn't get in the way.

I used to have annoying members who never played in any of our events at the club. However, they would always go out after the event and play. Of course after the round they'd come in and say "well I shot X course wasn't setup that hard, why were the scores so high?" No pressure, nobody watching you, nobody cares.

I am cheering for Jordan Spieth as I think he is a real special player who I hope will win >4 majors  and I like it when one of the medium length or shorter length players can win at courses that are over 7400 yards long with lengthy forced carries to reach the fairway.

Let's keep medium length in perspective - it's like saying that Hank Aaron didn't hit long home runs - only a few went over 400 ft.

Jordan still averages around 290 off the tee.  That's for real, not in fantasy land where a guy looks at his card, sees he has 100 left on a 400 yard hole and thinks he hit it 300 but it was a dogleg and the tees were up 30 - he hit it 250 - exceptionally long for an amateur.  :)

Having written that I would like to see Jordan win - he is not a bomb gouge guy and I appreciate that.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

No doubt Aprenti23! I generally play better in tournaments than normal rounds with my buddies. When there is nothing on the line I get lackadaisical. I guess it comes from playing other sports but I always loved playing in front of people. In college, I always had my best stuff in front of 5k people. Not always the case when we weren't playing anyone of note.

Did you ever get to play with Romo?
