Just go ahead with Bama and Georgia in the SEC Championship game again this year. The SEC East will be mediocre again in 2018 for all those not in Athens and the West... Well... Until LSU ever plays a competent QB or unless Auburn can find some offensive weapons for Stidham, it's going to be a fairly easy road again this year. Iron bowl is crazy, yes, but I don't see any of the eight conference games being a stumbling block, nor the Papa John's racist Cardinals nor the three JUCO teams Bama schedules every year.

Bama has an extremely weak schedule this year. This is the weakest I can remember the schedule being, if I'm honest. 

But those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Baylor's toughest out of conference opponent is Duke!

Trust me, I'd love to play only 9 P5 opponents like the SEC. Instead, we play 10. But we should just ignore that fact, right?

ND will lose game 1, so not sure about the undefeated thing, and of Course FSU will be undefeated, their schedule is easier than Bama's. If that's possible.

One thing that wrecked college football in this area was Boston College joining the ACC.

 

Going way back, Fordham, Georgetown, Villanova, Holy Cross, and secular Boston University were the big rivals.

 

Toss in a Harvard, Yale, Brown, or Dartmouth just for the friendly ethnic Catholic / WASP faceoff thing;  it was never mean-spirited.

 

When those schools backed off big time football in a big way after WWII,

 

Army, Miami, Navy, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, West Virginia and other eastern schools were who we wanted to see.

 

Throw in a Notre Dame, a Maryland (which were inexplicably not considered an Eastern team), and a Tulane or something, and the fans came out.

 

(Miami, by the way, was an eastern team back then, not a southern school like Florida or FSU.)

 

Nobody seems to give a rat's ass about playing Clemson, NC State, or Wake Forest.  Those are fine schools with fine programs, but culturally, they're just not natural rivals. And Bostonians are notoriously provincial.

 

The athletes that BC got during the 80s, 90s, and early oughts are not coming to BC anymore because the football vibe wore off with the ACC alliance.. 

 

It was never an SEC or Big Ten vibe to begin with,

but for a town with every professional sport and all kinds of small crowds attending smaller school college games, it was a good vibe.
 

Things go in cycles, however.  Eventually these recent mega-conferences may break up and Eastern football will return--again, not huge like the SEC but at least like it used to be. Or not. Who knows?

No, I think it has to do with the fact that every play of consequence isn't scrutinized by reply in College. The NFL can't even decide what constitutes a catch anymore.

 

Plus I spent 10 seasons on the sidelines shooting NFL games as well as practices, community events and so forth, so I am just burned out on the Pro game.
