Nothing makes me happier than UCF getting beat by an injury plagued LSU team that was shutout by Bama...Maybe people will stop pretending UCF can compete now since they lost to a beat up mid-tier SEC team.

Its pretty common for teams that recently competed for championships or got left out of the playoffs to blow up in whatever bowl game. It's basically like playing for a participation trophy for them, How do you get motivated to win a game that means nothing when they almost beat the #1 team in the country and got left out of the playoffs...Especially considering the outcome of those two playoff games... Thats just my take on it, I think if they had really showed up and wanted it, it wouldn't have been close. 

Compare that to a Texas team who has everything to gain by beating a top contender and you get a very unbalanced scenario in my opinion. I don't mean to undermine Texas' win, It's a good win undoubtedly, I just don't take much stock in the outcome of bowl games with this kind of setup.

The only time you hear this 'excuse' in any sport is during bowl season. If this were true throughout the year, then I guess UGA didn't care during the LSU game...or just lost interest in the SEC Championship game. Fact is, they lined up and got beat. You have days like that and it is what it is...a loss. Fromm was off for most of the game, UT loaded up LOS to stop the run and UGA didn't take care of the ball. The good news is that no one outside of the respective fan bases will even remember the bowl games a few months from now. 

Also, the UGA kids blowing up twitter during the CFP semi-finals didn't do themselves any favors but hey, we were all 20 and ignorant at one point in time.

Same deal with those ripping on UCF as a fraud.  It's one game, and doesn't define two years worth of undefeated seasons.

But this is what college football has become.  We can't talk about religion, politics, race, gender, or just about anything else that does matter in life, so we're left struggling to over analyze meaningless sporting events that 2 months from now no one will give a damn about or even remember who won what.

That's where the coaches come in, IMO. If the game itself isn't enough motivation, it's up to the coaches to provide it. If they can't, that's a different issue. Part of the coaches job is the motivate the players to perform their best on every play.

Georgia was being dominated last night. Fromm had some open receivers and then would throw an awful pass. I was really hoping to see Fields come in and change things up on their offense. With all the pressure Texas was able to put on Fromm I felt that Fields could’ve scrambled better on some of those plays. Fromm was getting pounded though.

I personally despise players sitting out games but you have to have some idea of the situation bc each case is different.

Greedy Williams is a first round draft pic no doubt. He grew up with Devin White and have been friends for years. He had to go up to White in tears to tell him that he wouldn't be playing the bowl game bc he was advised it would be best for him, his family and career.

Greedy grew up poor in a bad neighborhood and his family and daughter are literally depending on him getting drafted to try and get out of where they are from and to improve their way of life. He has to think about much more than just himself or his wants here. Moving his family out of the projects seems slightly more important to me than playing a G5 team that tries to claim national titles in a bowl game. 

So please spare me your hot taeks when you are talking about someone else's future and livelyhood. I'm sure you'd definitely do the opposite thing with your entire family looking your way.

As for the UGA vs TX game, I could care less. Texas played decent and looked motivated and Geogia did not. If someone believes that both teams were clicking on all cylinders then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. UGA shouldn't have been running their mouth before the game. That did nothing but hurt them. They deserved to lose that game. 

Ppl saw how Q shut up in the interview when he was talking about Murray and almost let something negative slip. Conversely the OU lb couldn't keep his mouth shut. We saw which worked out best.. Don't give other teams locker room material!

Your first sentence seems to disagree, but the rest of your post seems to agree with me, color me confused.

Clearly its not the case the rest of the season because the rest of the season actually does matter, its the road to the national championship. I'm not a UGA fan by any means, but it's pretty clear UGA wasn't playing to their potential and that is clearly the reason.

Call it coaching, or money ruining bowl season or whatever you want, but the point I made still holds true, UGA didn't care about that game because no one else cared about it either...hence the bolded sentences, if the national fan base can barely get motivated to watch the game, how are the players supposed to be motivated to play it? This is the problem with bowl season in general, just a bunch of corporate sponsored participation trophies for beating half of the teams you played...No athlete at that level wants to compete for nothing, its a joke.

100% agree with this though, if you are gonna have to play a game, get your team motivated to play it...How to do that is another question but thats why most of these coaches get a minimum of 7 figures, for that amount of money, they should be able to figure it out.

The recent bowl games are old news so no point dwelling on them.  Bama is favored by 5 and a half, over under is 59.5 and the ESPN "probability of winning" has Bama at 51%.  

You get one bet - over/under or pick the winner against the spread?

I think Alabama wins but will pick Clemson getting the points.

Clemson is confusing this season to me, they are obviously really good, I'm just not sure how good given the quality of the ACC this year. That Notre dame blowout sure made them look good though.

First time on this thread in a few days.  Texas was ready and I just don't know what to think of my Dawgs, they got their butts whipped much worse than the score indicated IMO.  I have read an interesting stat since the game that I guess is really relevant only to gamblers but since the playoffs began the #5 rated team (the first team out of the playoffs) has now lost 4 of 5 of their bowl games, only tOSU won one and that was last year.  I guess most college age kids are not mature enough to handle the disappointment of  barely missing the playoffs so then self motivation becomes a huge problem for coaching staffs.  I'm not making an excuse as I said above Texas beat UGA much worse than that final score but I did find the #5 bowl winning percentage telling.
