McaseyM
Been a crazy week at work and home, but my putter will be completely (re)finished this weekend with pics. Thank you for participating, it's been really fun to see the work that you've done. Even if you don't win and are interested in a putter grip, let me know we can do some special pricing for participating Howdy Fellow Spies- After seeing RookieBlue7's posting of his refinishing of his Scotty Cameron (http://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/14152-modded-out-and-industrialized-tei3-newport/), it gave me an idea for a new hobby that I don't really have time for, but want to do anyway. Also, I have a box of Cork Tree Putter Grips left over from a charity fundraiser that I don't really want to ship back and would rather buy one to give to you. Contest: Find a putter than needs some love. It can be your current gamer, an old putter in your garage, or run out to Goodwill, eBay, or your local golf shop and pick up a project putter. Refinish it any way you want: you can do a pimp-list style, classic colors/lines, or keep it clean and basic. This can be done at home, work, Home Depot, a friend's shop, but please this must be done YOURSELF, no professional refinishing (Putter Lounge, eBay refinishers, or LaMont, etc. ) You can coke it, bake it, torch it, stain it, plate it, grind it, stamp it, engrave it, paint-fill it or whatever your heart desires, but make it look good. You can reshaft and even use your own grip if the style and color scheme work, but the prize is still the same This contest REQUIRES PICTURES: 1) Pre-finish: backside/flange, topline, bottom, face 2) Process pics- if you replate it, take a pic of your set up 3) finished product If possible, post pics and include descriptions as you go Prize: The Cork Tree putter Grip of your choice from the following: Stumpy black only Bandit: Red, Black or Pink Gimme: Red, Black or Pink Slim Jim: Red, Black, Blue or Pink Deadline: Hey, I have 3 kids and no time, so this one's gonna be due on Halloween, Saturday October 31st. Good luck to all and have fun! I'm attaching my own project putter pics to this thread. null
This was more of a refinish than a restore: Used sandpaper, dremel tool, and steel wool to remove copper paint coating and then polish steel. Used testors enamel paint to do the painfill.

deejaid
I found these nice milled Founders Club putters cheap, they just need a little love. It will be my first club refinish. Not gonna pimp them or anything, just some Caswell stainless steel black, new paint fill and lengthen an inch or so. McaseyM
Deejaid- what kind of putters are those? I like the sharp heel. My next on will probably be a TPM 4, has a soft tail with a nice flange. This could be an addicting habit, especially having access to a mini machine shop at work. With my TPM 12, I'm going to gun blue it, then paint fill with some new colors What's in my bag: Driver : F9 10.5, Fujikura Speeder 757 TR Fairway F9 15.5° Aldila Rogue White 80X Hybrid: King F7 18° KBS Tour PROTO Hybrid 95 S+ Irons: z585 4i - 6i, z785 7i-PW, Nippon Modus 120X Wedges: CBX 50.11, 55.11, 60.10 TT DG S400 Black Putter: Honey Badger 34" Ball: Q-Star Tour
deejaid
They are Founders Club Tour putters from the 90's I believe. Paid $40 for the pair and they are both nice, quality putters. I like the way the FC Vll ( the narrow blade) sets up a bit more than the FC lX. I doubt either will knock my 1960's Mars 70 blade putter out of the bag, but liked the looks of them and $40 wasn't too much to give them a shot. deejaid
After working the gel around for 5 minutes (no pics as I didn't want that stuff getting on my iPad), I rinsed off in water and wiped dry with a paper towel. OH NO! What happened to the black! It seemed to flake off a bit. WITB: Stan Thompson “Reactionizer” persimmon woods 1-4 Spalding Tour Edition 3-PW Spalding Top-Flite E.V.A. deejaid
Undeterred, I let it sit for a few hours and the black was dull a splotchy. deejaid
Eureka! The finished evened out pretty well and got a nice shine. It looks like an oiled putter so I decided to go ahead and drop fill the stampings in gold. I'll wait until tonight to put a thin coat of oil to protect it. For a first try, not too bad. I now knew what to expect so I tackled the second putter. WITB: Stan Thompson “Reactionizer” persimmon woods 1-4 Spalding Tour Edition 3-PW Spalding Top-Flite E.V.A. deejaid
On the second putter, I decided to try to get a black chrome look, so I put the blackening gel on for 3 minutes instead of 5. Buffed it out and then sealed it with Coswell Sealer that comes in the kit (forgot to mention I used this sealer on the first putter as well). I like how this one came out better as it is less black and just looks nicer. WITB: Stan Thompson “Reactionizer” persimmon woods 1-4 Spalding Tour Edition 3-PW Spalding Top-Flite E.V.A. deejaid
Now that I've gotten a feel for how this Caswell Blackening gel works I think I could get better results in the future. I have plenty of gel left to do probably 10 more putters. But $30 for the gel and 2 putters brought back is a win in my book. McaseyM
Nice work, that second putter turned out awesome, i like the black chrome look and the gold paint pops. deejaid
Thanks Casey. Yeah, the second one looks pretty good. It was in better shape to start with, less dings on it. Plus, using the first putter as more of a test, I realized when buffing after washing off the gel, an even, circular motion with the dremel made the face look really nice, which made the second putter look much better. I still need to lengthen the second putter about an inch/inch and a half and then it will be a real nice gamer.
