Looking for a Live Scoring App

Recommended Posts

I've got a golf outing starting tomorrow. Me and a buddy were thinking there must be an app where the teams could enter and track scoring in real time. I've looked at Game Book (free) and it seems pretty lousy. I've also looked at the Grint website which has an app but for the features we're interested in you'd have to pay $19.95.

Any suggestions for a free or almost free app that would work? Android and IPhone.

Thanks.

I played an event this year that used VPAR (vpar.com).  There system worked very well; each group was given a Samsung device to input scores, and from that device could track scoring of all the other groups.

I have some contact information that I can PM you if you wish to pursue.

Thanks for the help everyone. I think after looking a few I'll stick with the old tried and true method. Pencil and score cards. GameBook looks like they were on the right track but it's a cluster. It's free alright.... but who cares. Doesn't work.

I've had decent luck with GameBook - takes a few minutes to figure out that you have to turn the phone to input scores, but we did some Hack To Jack events using it and it worked fine.  Striker is very good, with the added bonus of becoming Facebook friends with Heidi Striker...

I tried GameBook recently before a golf outing I took. Didn't use it. It's a clunky app IMO and not intuitive. I think the developers have (had) a good idea but it never was refined. I thought during our outing we would have some fun with the live scoring feature. But, after messing around with it I decided not to use it at all. Someone one day will make an app that actually works. ( I wish I had the skill. Hmmm? $$$$$) I'm not the least bit interested in the social aspect per se'. Posting here on MGS is about as far as I go. No Facebook, Twitter, blah blah. As it stands, for me anyway; it's still hard to beat the ole pencil and scorecard.

If it's not easy to use, and I have to think about it, then I would never use it.  It would be more concerned about the app and lose focus on my game.

Headline Texas - Pladjacket Eats Crow

I joined the Sunday day game yesterday out at the course. I don't normally play with these guys but I know them. Anyway we had 4 five-somes. They asked if I had the app on my phone. What app? GameBook they said. In fact I still had it on my phone from back in October. One of the other players knew how to use it and set up the match (my group) on my phone for me and away we went. We played a $20 skin game with the pot divided among the winners. All I Had to do was enter the scores after each whole. Worked easily without distraction. I liked seeing how everyone stood and how the skins were stacking up.

So now that I've eaten my plate of crow I think I'm going to start using it. It was kind of fun too.

Ate the crow on the first tee Kenny. Afterwards and after going skinless on the day my buddy bought me a nice lunch at Chili's with the two skins he won. Pretty nice of him I thought.

My game is so bad right now Kenny; I'm out there swinging like a spastic. LOL
