I just saw where Snell has changed to a smaller logo...Thank you Mr. Snell!!

 

where did you see that? I looked on their site and the balls appear to still have that giant Snell plastered across them.

I would like to know if anyone has played the Taylormade Tour Preferred X- I know it is listed as being designed by Dean on the website, but I wanted to know if anyone had a comparison that did the testing.

TP-X was my ball prior to switching to the MTB.  The only thing I didn't like about the TP-X was the price.  The Snell was just as long and spins just as much around the greens, maybe a little more.  I have no data to back that up, just visually what my shots are doing.

 

The biggest reason for me to switch was that the Snell MTB performs just as well if not better and costs much less.

I really really enjoyed the TP-X ball. The greenside spin and short punch shots were awesome with this ball. That's why I started playing it. I compared it side by side with the MTB and they were pretty similar on all shots except the short game chips. That's where I thought the TP-X was substantially better. Side note, it  very well could have been quality of chip because that is definitely the weak spot of my game. But it seemed even on the clean shots the TP-X was better. However I will say I have started playing the Duo-Urethane and I have been blown away at the performance of this ball. If you don't like a soft feel, the Duo-U isn't for you. But I didn't think I liked a soft feel until I played it.

I agree 100%. I played the Pro V1X and TP-X. The Snell MTB is equivalent to both in my opinion. I'm also a huge fan of the smaller logo. Plus, I never have to wonder if it's my ball or not since I'm the only one that plays them. I have run into a few situations though where guys I don't normally play with pick it up and think it would make a good shag ball.

I recall that you weren't as thrilled with the MTB as many others are. Do you normally play a Pro VI type of ball?

Yes I have some TP-X I got for Christmas but I haven't done a side by side test. I've played the TP-X as few times and liked them. They felt great to me. Yesterday I played the MTB. I played well and enjoyed the ball. My distance was as good as with any other premium ball. Good around the greens. I haven't played a Snell MTB in a while but if I can say anything it's that yesterday I thought the ball had noticeable holding/stopping power on the greens. I'm not a high ball hitter per se'. But yesterday I was holding more greens that I normally do. Yes, I was striking the ball well and that had a lot to do with it for sure. Next time I get out I'll play a MTB and a TP-X and compare.
