Another Mannkrafted in the works

LaMont has been my go to guy for a while now. I had a putter idea a while back and he made something similar finally for the PGA show in Vegas. We'd been talking about it a few times but it never came to be as he's been pretty busy. I've got an Ma/66 and a Widebody Rattler but have still been wanting this idea to come to fruition for a while now. I'd contacted a few other guys about it but one wasn't doing that size any more and the other still hasn't replied (to be fair I don't think he's made a putter in a while). Anyway, LaMont finally told me lets rock and so he's started on my MA/44. What's that you ask? It's an MA/66 head with a .440 mill slice taken out of the center then rewelded back together. He's started the head now and I can't be more stoked. Now the anticipation is killing me. Lol. There are lots of unique elements to this one and I can't wait to see it all come together. Garage putter doesn't even describe it lol. I had an idea then added another then another and finally settled on everything. I'll try to update this as it progresses and the pics start rolling in.

Very cool! I believe LaMont has done this style before where he's cut out a chunk in the center.

I'm doing a finish on it myself. It'll be rusted up or copper like the last one and antiqued

I'll update as LaMont sends them. He did say he was twisting the neck and when he was almost finished remembered he had a jig for it lol

So that's who the ma44 is for. I saw it when I stopped by his shop the other day. That ma33 he had in Vegas putts like a dream. I can only imagine the 44 will be amazing as well.

Slight update as well. The head has been remarried to itself and the neck is set. Next comes the finishing work which is more work for him and more drooling for me. Lol

Why not just machine it that size vs cutting it in half first?

Because the set-up fees for another CNC program and altering the CAD drawing is around $2500 for starters. You don't just pull up the program, lop a half inch out of the middle and slide it over then hit go on the CNC.

Sweet looking putter.  Do you think that the the cutting the putter in two and welding back together will have any effect on feel?

No, because it's been done many times before and a good welder and a good machinist will clean it up and make it where it doesn't change a thing.

Small update. Sound slot is cut and weld bead on the sole is done. Gotta have a little button up work and it'll be on the way to me. Has to have another pass on the face. Had a spot LaMont wasn't happy with and he wants to remill it and fix it. That and a little more clean up and then he'll stamp whatever he wants to on it and get it on the way.

All he had left was cutting the sideline and stamping when he posted these... Hopefully it got done last week when these were put up and I'll have this bad boy soon...

An aesthetic trick. I'm hoping it'll make it sit just a hair open at address. I experimented with lead tape on another putter and it did it so I asked Lamont to do the weld bead for me.

Got my baby in from LaMont.  Went ahead and did a burnt blue oil finish on it and kept the paintfill simple.  Now to finish the black polymer shaft and get this baby built

The neck weld is beautiful, like a stack of mini coins. Do you do your own shaft polymer work?
