Post your current handicap

Recommended Posts

I'd like to make a suggestion to everyone. In your MGS profile (MY Settings) there is a place to input your current handicap. A lot of people do. I'd like to further suggest that everyone update their handicap after each revision. I just did mine. In Texas our GHIN is revised on the 1st and 15th of each month. I understand your local USGA Association might only update monthly. Why does it matter? It doesn't really. But, knowing a member's handicap allows for estimating their skill level or current playing ability. I use mine as a visual reminder of where I am and where I want to be. I'm trying to get down to a 5.5 by year end. The update I just posted today shows a 6.1 down from 6.2. Zzzzzzzz. Getting close unless I get in my way.

I don't play comps any more and the matches I do play we are playing teams so a lot of times we do gimmies if say my 3 footer is for par and my partner makes birdie. But my golf director rates me still at a 5 on the mid tees and a 1 on the senior tees. On our games either him or the Miura dealer make the teams and games and we adjust for travel on both games and tees. It comes out ok the teams always seem equal and the action is always close. But for all practical purposes I can shoot between 70 to 75 on a 6500 course at sea level so I guess I am a 5 still. Sometimes I can blow up and shoot 80 to 84 too. I may start back doing scores just because you have gotten my curiosity up

And you are still my marker. I'm trying to get to 5ish by year end. It ain't easy. Especially like yesterday when out of nowhere I make a triple and a double. Both on par fours. Grrrrrrr

If you are shooting between 70-75 you aren't a 5 Big Stew - you're a 2, unless you are doing it on a par 66 course. :)

I'm floating around between 5 and 6 as I have been all summer.  I'm about to go on a three week hiatus from golf (work related).  That could be good or bad for my game - I'll get to practice some at least but have no window to play from this Friday until the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Ended the season at 5.1.  Our handicap posting time is dormant from Nov 1 until April 1 so I'll be staying here until next year.  Should get a nice bump upwards at the start of next season because the next score to fall off is a 74 and the odds of shooting that during the first two weeks of next season are pretty damn slim.

Here under the WSGA, we post scores from March 1 until November 15.  I usually bounce between 9.0 and 10.0.  Even though I had a 71 last weekend, yesterday my index went from 9.5 to 10.0 because I had several scores in the mid 80's.  I've got 12 days to shoot a few low scores to get back to 9.

OK, I went into my profile to change my HCP.  I put in 10.0 and got an error that the number exceeds the maximum allowable.  I guess I can't be a double digit handicap!

Kenny,

You can be a 10 not a 10.0. So I can be either a 17 or 18 but not a 17.9 which is what I got to yesterday after the revision.

Well, Theoo... put in a 29 for yours. It may not be much but at least it dropped 1. I think you've had a 30 showing as long as I've been here. Keep looking at it and reminding yourself that you can go lower my friend.

Actually Theo has made great progress since he started.  While it will serve him well in the long run he's actually hurt by the fact that he's fairly long right now.  Too many penalty strokes.  That will change and then he'll be kicking all of our you know what's.

I will check the latest revision when I go to the club later this week.  They put out a list every 1st and 15th.  I was a 5.1 last revision so mine is right.  I've been between 4.7 and 6.7 since May.  The good news/bad news is that I will have a bunch of lower scores coming off - the 69 from last December stays for a year (tournament.)

Nope par 72  70.7/ 130 mid tees at sea level like you are. Senior tees are 68.9/123-- Our regular group does not let me and 2  other guys play from the senior tees since us 3 smoked some of the young limber back guys that were playing the tips one day. We threw a 61 on their young butts (best ball). Now I do play the senior tees not in our games when i play strictly vintage with persimmon woods etc. With the vintage stuff I usually shoot around 73 to 76. i had actually been throwing those scores in too on the mix

There's a question for the committee! What about a score shot with vintage equipment? I like it!

Even though our posting season ends November 15 until the end of February, I can still post scores if I play at a location that is still open for posting.  So, I guess I will be posting scores in Florida next February.

I've harped on this before, but why can't the forum tech guys adjust the profile input to allow decimal index posting by 10.0 plus handicaps.  I post my course handicap, which is currently 18, but my index is only 15.2.  But I feel it would be misleading for me to post 15 as my handicap, as it implies a course handicap.

I received my revision this morning and I'm still at 6.1. (I knew it was coming) I've been playing poorly as of late. Yesterday for example I only hit 3 fairways out of 14 and shot 81. I've been going down hill lately with the driver. Other recent rounds have been better but not great. I think I've finally hit rock-bottom.

I'm with hckymeyer - Minnesota's season goes dormant Nov 1, so I"m stuck at 6.2.  Good thing, because my November rounds have been horrid. Gorgeous this weekend, but rotator cuff injury and steroid injections put me on the shelf. Getting old sucks..

I'm going to keep track of you bajo. You and me have the same handicap. I think we're about the same age too. I'll be 61 in Feb.  Let's see who can go lowest in 2016. I don't expect too much more from my game this year. Course conditions will become increasing more difficult here during the winter with dormant Bermuda Fws and hard greens. Might be kind of fun as a challenge.

I'm keeping an eye on Kenny too.

We'll have to start an "OId Guys Division," even though I may be the baby of the group...

Was a 12.5 at the beginning of 2014 - but that Hack To Jack thing did wonders.  5 is a realistic goal, I think...
