Congrats Hcky.

I'm still struggling to hang on to my 6. I'm hoping for a 5ish by year end.

I've being hanging around 14 for most of 2016.  My short game has a tendency to disappear more often than not and that in itself keeps my handicap higher than I care for.  Oh well I'm not house bound so life is good....    :D

Well despite my awful play as of late, a couple of good rounds is saving my handicap. 0.1 as of my last revision.

I have our club's version of the Ryder cup this weekend so that means its time to drag my putting mat out of the garage and do some work this week.

Our HCP season should have been over on Nov 1 instead of the Nov 15 date, at least according to my index!!  The weather has been spotty; some days good, others not so much and it seems like I have been playing on the bad days.  I'm up to 8.3 from 7.9 last revision.  Playing in more clothes than I am used to seems to affect my play, but I fear that playing in my summer clothes and freezing would be worse.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I began the year at 26, currently at 17.9

I was coming off a couple years of not playing and recovering from two TKR surgeries in late 2014, I didn't play much at all last year.    New job with more opportunity to play and practice had me set a goal being at 17 by the end of this year.  We have another week of posting season here, so I may not get to 17.0  but I'm in the neighborhood.

With more practice I might have gotten there, but I played more golf this year than probably the past 4 or 5 years combined.   Close to 39 rounds and will definitely top 50 next year, now that I have a year in settled on the new job.

Will probably set a goal of getting to 13 or below next year.

I finished the season at 13.7, full point higher since I had surgery in June. Next year's goal will be to stay healthy and lower my index down into the 11's if not lower.

Played for the first time in some months today (work) - 74 on 72. I have played to a 0-2 since high school with a few big rounds and some really good rounds in there. Planning on attempting to open qualify next year so will be getting a GHIN soon and will be sure to keep it updated.

Cheers

Closed the season at a 1.6 which is two shots higher than I started the season. I will take it considering I joined a new club in February and played a little over half the season injured.

I forgot to post on the 15th. However, my Hcp didn't change. 6.4. I use a calendar year for my season so I still have a little way to go. Good news is I've been playing well lately and will cram a lot of golf in between now and Jan. 1st. So... I still might break 6.  ;)

Ugh...played in a league with Carolina Golfer 2.  He's seen me go really low, then the following week sky high.  Unofficial HC is now 15.4...thought it was around 16-17.  I'm going to try and shoot to get it down around a 10 by the end of 2017.  Pretty hard goal to reach, but I'm going to go for it.  I just need more range and play time.

Actually MD I think your goal is very obtainable. Even easy. I've always said (this is not necessarily original thinking) that a higher handicapper can drop 8-10 hcp. points in a hurry with practice and playing. Perhaps a few lessons to make sure your swing fundamentals are working in your favor.  But... It's when you decide to go below 10 hcp. where things start getting much harder. Go below 5 hcp. and even harder still. You'll see. This is also predicated on you having decent equipment that fits you reasonably well. Perhaps you can have it checked and adjusted if necessary. Good course management will help too. Play smart.

Yes... I think you will get to a 10 hcp. Maybe lower?

Yep, MDGH, I know I don't have to tell you this, but PlaidJacket is spot on.   Much easier to drop those 5 strokes going for 15 to 10 than a 5 getting to scratch.  Plus you've been there before, as you said, I've seen you play a lot of solid golf and I would say you had your best year off the tee this year, that I've ever seen.    Just need to sure up those rapport shots and the putting and you will be right there.

Oh and along with practice, if you decided to buy some new shiny toys to get you there, you have my full support  :D

We had a nice 70 degree day this past Saturday, I remarked to a buddy of mine, it reminded me of San Diego weather.  Tough to beat it's weather, possibly the best in the country.

In looking back at my last 20 scores, I know for sure that short game work will be the answer to scoring in the 70s more often than the 80s. My average score is 82.2 and seeing that irks me because how many strokes are in that average are bladed chips, chips that were "duffed", ones that still left me with 10'+, etc. Three fewer strokes per round and I'm averaging 79... That's my goal for next year. I want my GHIN to move below 5 next year, and short game work will be the answer!

yeah, I know it's obvious and a cliche and all, but short game is where it's at.   I played with our Head Pro on Friday and he's scratch to +1  and sure he nearly drove the green on one 330 yard par 4, but the way he got up and down for par when he missed the green, was something to see.    he was in a greenside bunker in two on a par 5 with a short sided pin.   He didnt' think about it for more than 15 seconds, went in and splashed it out to kick in range (less than a foot)

I thought I had a decent wedge game, but watching him up close showed me just how much more room I have for improvement, and that's a good thing, because that just means more strokes off the 17 index!!

  • 3 months later...

It's time to resurrect this thread since most GHIN scores should be able to be posted again.  The Washington State Golf Association opened for posting on March 1.  It's been a tough two weeks for me with cold, wet, windy weather and my index jumped to 9.0.  I'm hoping the warmer weather will make this old body work better by the end of the month!!

I've been hanging around 14 for so long I think it's a permanent number for me. I stopped using GHIN when my tournament days were over. I used US Handicap for a couple of seasons and dropped it last month.

I've downloaded a simple app called "Golf Handicap Tracker" for posting scores and keeping a general idea what my cap is.

My GHIN is still at 6.3. I've been playing the past few months in a range of 6-10 mostly. I haven't been turning in scores much if at all. I'm pretty much done with worrying about or keeping a handicap. I'm through playing any handicap tournaments for the most part. If it weren't for the Club Championship I'd drop it all together. And this year may be my last.

The dues for GHIN at my club include membership in our Men's and Ladies Clubs.  To play in our local weekly events we have to have a validated handicap. Yes, my wife and I could do it by other means, but I find it easy to post scores on the GHIN computer at the club, and my wife and I use it to keep track of our progress throughout the year.

I'm not a big fan of the hc system either. I enter all of the numbers for each course I play, then enter my scores... but I think it's a misleading number.

I also keep a stat spreadsheet that I built, and I feel that my average score to par is a more realistic indicator of how I'm playing.

Seen too many people sandbag so they could dominate tournament or league play, and others "vanity cap" and only play when conditions are perfect, etc.

I still think that if I play with someone else, I shoot 80, and they shoot 72, they beat me. It's just that simple.
