If I could afford one of these, I would definitely get one.  After 18 holes you do feel it in your legs, like you got a workout, as you are constantly shifting your body weight on this thing to help control which direction it goes in.  I had a lot of fun with it.

Just asked my club if I can use it. If yes - I'll have one coming next week and can make a full review.

Great! Will be interesting to see how you like it.

Last year we had a "salesman" come to our course and demoed one.  As long as you stay in the fairway, it would be OK, but our rough is typically mounded on nearly all holes.  I would not take one up or down a slope, so that means get off and walk to your ball, however far that is, then walk back.  Not practical at my course.

It's funny that this thread should come up now.. I just did a search earlier today and came across this post before it was bumped. I am playing a course tomorrow that has Golfboards and am planning on using one! It looks like a lot of fun and I can't wait!

To answer your thread question, I say folly (fad).  I'm with @PlaidJacketin hoping this dosen't become the new norm.  I'm and old school dude who loves tradition.

I am guessing "Folly" as well.  I can see it on a resort course where you go to play once while on vacation..but on my home course with all of us old codgers?  I really do not see many locals paying up for the experience..at least not more than once.

Safety and liability would be my concerns. There are countless videos of “fools” on YouTube making a mess of the old standard golf cart. At least in a golf cart they are somewhat protected. These boards move slow but throw in a little go juice and the average dude becomes a fool!

Well, I still haven't tried one! The course got rid of them but never updated their website... Guess it's just gonna be the golf segway all over again! Never got to try one of those either before they disappeared from the few courses that had them.

I really like the idea of the option of a single rider motorized vehicle, whether it be the segway, golfboard, or some other type of single rider golf cart. The round always seems to go faster when I'm paired with a couple of singles and we all have our own cart.

That would be a quick way to get idiots that destroy the course off of it.

The story of how these came to be is actually quite interesting. Laird Hamilton was either the inventor or co-inventor of these machines. Laird is pretty much a big-wave surfing God. He's also an entrepreneur, inventor, health and fitness guru and golf enthusiast. He wanted to create something that would bring 2 of his favorite worlds together.. Surfing and golf. The golf board wasn't solely invented though to make golfing "more radical". It had a functional purpose. Understanding one of the biggest drawbacks in the game, namely "pace of play", the golf board was materialized to help speed things up by allowing each player to divide and conquer rather than having to wait for each person to hit their shots from opposite sides of the fairway.

Oh, and Laird is 54 years old.. not some young hipster punk.

I've never had the opportunity to use one, but I expect I'd have fun. That said, I don't expect them to stick around unless a considerable redesign and drop in price are in the forecast. Even then, there are plenty of people who would not use them simply because they'd rather sit or find it too difficult to maneuver. I'd like to see a smaller slimmed-down version produced that is more economical for purchase. If that were the case, I'd probably buy one and save my legs on a couple courses around here with lots of elevation change. Don't really see how any courses in my area would benefit from leasing a fleet of these things.

I started reading this thread and noticed that it started in 2015. It's now 3 years old going on to 4 and to date I haven't seen an influx of these on courses. Has this kind of dwindled down or is it basically for resort type courses?

I found this thread through a search because I wanted to post my video of my experience with the golfboard. The only place I have found this was at the resort course I used it on. But man was it fun.
