Golf in Punta Cana

The family vacation has been booked for sometime and I finally got around to booking my tee times over some beers in the grill room while I was rained out from actually playing golf.  Booked three rounds for the week, two for me and one for my son and I.  I am starting the week at Hard Rock Punta Cana (myself), playing Iberstate Golf the next day with my son and then venturing to Teeth of the Dog for the third round (myself).  Anyone ever play any of these or have any advice?

I was in Punta Cana in January, unfortunately didn't get any golf in though. Great place, and while maybe not the advice you're looking for, if you have the time take a tour up into the coffee/cacao/tobacco farm areas (in the hills) - you get a bit more of a local feel and you can see them rolling cigars (and sample them on the spot). Pretty cool trip - enjoy!

Thanks for the tip. My wife wants to do some tours in the afternoons so we will definitely give that one a try. Coffee and cigars sound great to me.

I've only played Teeth of the Dog on a simulator...also probably not very helpful advice haha. It's very long and has a lot of water on it.

I have played it a couple of time along with Dye Fore.  Fun tracks, some target golf with small-ish greens.  Oh ya, bring bug spray.

  • 3 weeks later...

Played the Hard Rock, Iberostate and Teeth of the Dog.

Hard Rock was a typical Nicklaus resort course with wide fairways and big greens, good way to start my trip.  Would have played better on the front if it was not in a monsoon, but happily took a good back nine of even par.  At just a shade over 7,300 yards it was a bit of a beast but not unfriendly.

Iberostate was an inland course that was a bit over 7,000 yards and chose it for its lack of forced carries since I had my 10 year old son with me.  Kudos to the little guy for making six natural pars from the forward tees including drawing a 35 foot bomb on 1 for a 4.  If I were just playing myself I would have skipped this one since the views and layout were really lackluster.

Teeth of the Dog was every bit as good as I had heard it was.  Great views, great layout and you really need to think your way around the course which to me is odd for a track that is 7,400+ yards.  I would go back and play it again in a heartbeat and would also add Dye Fore to the list for next time.
