New Member from Spring, Tx....Move to Graphite?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, Jon here. New member from Spring Tx, just a bit north of Houston.

So getting older, still hit it ok but thinking of moving to graphite. Looking for shafts that

will help get the ball up a bit, little kick at the bottom.

If any of you guys have done this with some success love to hear.

Otherwise, glad to be here and hope to be able to help out when I can with other member

questions.

Jon

Welcome from the Pacific Northwest!!  Glad you joined us.  I'm not really much help here.  I switched to graphite  about 6 years ago, but mine are stock regular flex Pings and they work for me.  I put regular flex UST ProForce 95 shafts in an old set of MacGregor VIP Tourneys.  They are much better than the DG S300 shafts that were in them.  At least I can hit them again!!

The graphite shafts of today are so much better than they were 10 years ago, and I don't think you can go wrong with just about any brand, as long as you get fitted for your swing.  Most shaft manufacturers have something in a flex and profile that will fit you, it's a matter of finding one that feels the best and works the best for you.  Good luck!

In 1998 I shattered my left wrist....two years and 4 surgeries later, I started golfing again....but i switched to graphite..  I have gone back and forth a few times, but found some Project X 5.0 graphite shafts last year and put them in my Cobra Bio Cell irons....I did this, not because of length or accuracy, but because I need to limit the vibration to my left wrist as much as possible.  That said, the PX shafts have been great for me.  I am now 65 and play graphite almost all the time......wedges are still steel.

Welcome!  I'm among those who have switched to graphite in my irons over the past 10 years.  I can't imagine switching back to steel.  If you are looking to reshaft what you have currently there are some nice graphite options out there.  I'd suggest starting a thread on that in the fitting section.

Good luck!

In august 2014 I was fit for a custom set of Wishon irons. They have Aerotech steel fiber shafts. I have the i70's. As far as I'm concerned they are great. I've never been a high ball player but these shafts did give me some added height. great feel too.
