Improve Forgiveness in Your M1 Driver

~^~

Recommended Posts

Toney Covey's Recent blog, titled as above, was a revelation for me. My driver SS is 90-100, hasn't changed in years. The M1 is the longest driver I ever hit: avg 230 total with 220 carry, capable of 250-260. My M1-460cc is 9.5* with the stock Fujikura Pro60 Stiff. At neutral settings, I hit it 200, but increasing loft setting 2* got me 30 more yds. Only problem was, increasing loft on an M1 automatically closes the face; the two adjustments are inseparable. The 2* uploft closed the face 4*. No way to prevent it. So, to get 30 more yards of distance, I had to fight a pull hook all day. For 30 more yds? You bet! Then along comes Toney's article. So i moved both weights to the extreme rear, moving CG back. This increased dynamic loft, higher trajectory, more distance -- maybe. But the amazing thing was it eliminated side spin! The club is now a point-and-shoot howitzer. I now step into the tee box with confidence my drives are going to go and finish at least in the general vicinity of where I'm aiming. Apparently rear club weighting is a good thing, and I'm looking for my lead tape. Anybody out there have a similar experience?

I'm excited to hear this. I moved the weights to the back of mine yesterday but haven't tried it out yet. Playing in a scramble tomorrow so I'm looking forward to it.

I was

Totally unaware by changing loft the face was affected. Mine is 10.5 dropped down to 9.5 and struggled. Now back on 10.5 will trial this change with the swing weights tomorrow on the range.

Was playing an agrader in match play and I absolutely smoked this drive 260m . All I could do was walk down the fairway. Thinking 'how good is this'...... It is beautiful ........

Awesome! Love when people find more distance, it can be a total game changer! Just please, stop saying side spin. There's no such thing in golf.

Ok I finally tried this today, first off the sound when you really hit one is completely different and perhaps louder, for me it was way more forgiving than my standard settings and went almost straight Everytime, the only thing is I'm not sure I was necessarily longer, maybe 10 yards shorter of my best drives but I will take the extra forgiveness and more fairways instead of 10 more yards left or right. Thanks.

I don't have an M1, but this whole series of posts makes me want one. Never been a big fan of Taylormade, but always been a big fan of the composite materials. When you add this little fix to the M1, I'm even more intrigued.

I'm also not a Tmag fan but I think they hit the nail on the head with the M1 and M2 series of clubs. I'm still gaming my M1 in this set up with the weights in the back and I love it.

The article has my attention peaked. I will have to consider an M1. Its going to need a fitting though. TMag had me totally baffled about what I'd need in their stuff.

I'm playing the TaylorMade R15.  Just curious is anyone went from the R15 to the M1 and how much longer they think it is.

If you get it dialed in, maybe yes, and maybe not if you're pretty consistent swing wise. I saw gains over the R15 But we are talking about 6-9 yards more from off center hits. I did see a little jump in ball speed too

It was longer on hits away from the center of the face, m2 even more so.

6-9 yards would be huge BTW. I'd take that in a heartbeat.
