Garmin Approach X40

Recommended Posts

This looks really nice! Going into my wish list.

I currently use a Garmin S2 and a Fitbit Alta, one on each arm.  It would be nice to

combine the two. And wear all the time.

Anyone using the X40 yet? I know the GPS is pretty accurate but how's the battery life, etc. Is it

ok as a Fitbit replacement for steps, heart rate? Is the app ok?

I use this Garmin and i love it... Accurate, also for running a great add with the heart rate. Can't put in running profile's or zone's. The battery life for that watch with continious hearth rete on is around a weak, but a full batery can just barely record 18 holes... The app is superb, allot of information!!!

I know this isn't the most current thread but I found it just searching for information on the x40.  I bought mine yesterday and will have it on the course for the first time this afternoon.  Just wearing it since yesterday has proven to be comfortable.  The step count is pretty close to right on the money.

I've been looking for a fitness tracker (fitbit) and also missed having a golf GPS watch.  When I seen the X40, it was like it was made for me.  :)

As Dave said, the app is pretty cool.  Tons of information but I haven't had/used it long enough to really use it.

I've been using mine for a year and love everything about it.  The size, the fit.

The battery life is great, I wear it every day, not just for golf.  On non golf days I can generally get three days of wear out of it,  With a round of 18 holes probably 2 days.  I love that it keeps stats/scoring.  You can download the Garmin Connect to your phone, and it will sync to it.  At the end of the day you can get stats much like the Arcoss shows you.  Maybe not as detailed, but gives you a hole by hole map of where every shot went and how far.

The GPS is easy to read, with three distances showing, front back and middle.   You can zoom in on the green to get a better idea.  You get distance to and to clear multiple hazards per hole, and a distance tracking on each shot, so you can measure any shot you hit on the spot.

The activity features are nice as well.  Steps, high level activity minutes, amount of undisturbed sleep...etc.

As for the notifications of email and phone calls, I go back and forth using that and not using it.  Mostly I don't as I dont' like the constant buzzing on my arm....ha

Ditto almost everything Carolina Golfer 2 said. I wear mine everyday to track walking both on and off the treadmill and the battery is way better than my old FitBit. I make sure I charge it before a round and have never come close to it not lasting. It typically last that round plus a few days of non GPS workouts (treadmill). I wear reading glasses but don't need them to use the X40 on the course the numbers are large enough for me to see them clearly. The distances are very accurate. I compare them to the distances using GolfLogix on my iphone 6s and there is usually a 3-5 yard difference. However if I am standing on a yardage marker at a tee box, the X40 is exact and my phone app is off.

I like the notifications because I usually have my phone in my pocket on vibrate. I almost always feel my wrist buzz where I would have otherwise missed a call or text message because I don't feel the phone while walking.

There are times when logging in to Garmin Connect on the web that there will be an errant shot recorded, even though the X40 didn't add it to your score. It's easy to remove those when you look at the round on Garmin Connect and see and 11 yard shot mixed in with your 225 yard drive.

I also use it to synch with the Dick's Sporting Goods App "Move" feature. Everyday you log 10,000 or more steps is worth 3 reward point. It's not much but between softball gear for my daughter and miscellaneous golf purchases it adds up.
