I started watching Mark Crossfield a couple of years ago and he's got some good stuff. Recently found Rick Shiels videos on youtube and the thing I like about him is he's got a tester that is a mid-handicap hitting clubs and giving his feedback. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gSEt6sX9U4&list=PLKnkfgDBi62kF5MjPySEw8mUzV3bAgHtE I've had the unpleasantness of meeting Shiels. He was an absolute *******. Got paid ~$5k for a corporate golf day (clinic, 3 holes with each of the groups we've had and produce a video from the event). Clinic was ok. Then during the round he didn't want to play - just wanted to hit drivers as he was 'going through swing changes' in his short game and it was 'off brand' for him to play badly. Never released the video to his audience as it wasn't good enough. Him and his agent ghosted the company after that. What a disgrace. Crossfield is fun/funny to watch. I have a funny story about him too Well, one of his students. I used to be friends with a guy that went onto his 'journey' and puttling lessons with Lockey. 6 months of lessons and all. From a Mizuno fanboy he went on full titleist as 'Mark said theyre the most consistent for me'. He claimed in those 6 months he went from 9 to 4hpc. Last round I played with him he 'didnt feel like a 4' on the day and asked for 8 shots After laughing at him for a bit that that's now how handicap system works I gave him 6 shots (being the generous guy that I am :)). Then he complained that we're playing from the back tees (as he said now he can hit as hard as he wants and not reach the bunkers so he doesn't need precision). Landed in 4/5 bunkers on the fairway and TOOK HIS BALL OUT and placed it before the bunker without saying anything to anyone when asked for a score until my playing partner called him out on it Also when he missed a putt he would pick up straight away if it passed the hole, even tho it would end up further than it started and called it a 2 putt He lost the match on the 11th hole and walked off without saying goodbye and we're not friends anymore So I think maybe a coach that would teach rules and etiquette on the course would be also very popular on YT ;-D Oh how fun life is. FrogginBullfish
A lot of what Rick does these days is built around getting views and gaining subscribers, or at least that's how it looks. Not necessarily a bad thing, but none of his instructional videos are all that good. Mainly just some generic stuff.Crossfield can come across as arrogant. Wasn't sure I liked him when I first came across his videos but now I can move past his moments of narcissism because I truly find value in the instructional videos he's making. He's not just bleating on about the same generic stuff but really delving into the mechanics and allowing his audience to think about things critically. Rick doesn't do that. That's not to say there's no value in the stuff Rick is doing. I just think it's aimed more at the casual golfer who's looking for a quick fix, instead of a long-term, more fundamental understanding of the golf swing. Mark's recent videos with Dan where they tracked strokes gained were really quite good. I can't see Rick ever doing something like that.Sent from my Pixel 2 using MyGolfSpy mobile app JohnSmalls, perseveringgolfer and tony@CIC 3 Quote DRIVER PXG 0811XF GEN4 (10.5°) FAIRWAY WOODS PXG 0341XF GEN4 (16°) HYBRIDS PXG 0317XF GEN4 (19°), PXG 0317X GEN4 (22°) IRONS PXG 0311T GEN3 (5 - 9) WEDGES TAYLORMADE MG3 (45°, 50°, 55° TW Grind, 60° TW Grind) PUTTER PXG BATTLE READY ONE & DONE

StrokerAce
Not sure about everyone else but I watch golf on YT for basically 2 reasons. 1. Technical swing thoughts, mechanics, product reviews 2. Entertainment course vlogs, funny stuff I have goto's for each and I bounce around a lot. Category 1: Eric Cogorno, Chris Ryan, TXG, MrShortGame, George Gankas, Russell Heritage, etc. Category 2: Golfholics, Golfsidekick, Peter Finch, Fried Eggs, Crossfield, Robin Williams, etc. Honestly - I don't really watch Shiels videos much anymore... I personally enjoy that he shows you can be a good (on the scorecard) golfer without having a perfect swing or hitting 300-yard drives. "Swing your swing," is a great thought for the course. I'm all about getting better at golf through improving my swing, especially when I'm practicing or on the range, but at the end of the day I want to shoot better scores on the course. Golf Sidekick does a really great job of exemplifying how to do that. palvord 1 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. joe293
Is it just me or did a lot of these guys lose credibility when they started accepting club contracts ? It's very hard for me to listen to a review of clubs when the guy has a Taylormade, Callaway, Titleist full club deal. I know these guys get most of the clubs free but actual endorsements seem to negate everything they are trying to do. Recently watched a Michael Newton video where he loved the Wilson blades so much he actually paid for a set. He even admitted it's probably the first time he's paid for clubs in years. That being said I generally watch TXG, just great equipment content.
