mizuno JPX 900 driver

Came across this on THP's IG account, so can't claim that discovered it.

Apparently it just hit the USGA for ruling.

850 was a little too hard for me to get airborne, that's why I have my Fly Z+ driver now, but what do you all think? Are Drivers getting overly adjustable? ( I realize that that some other drivers may have more moving parts, but 2 middle weights?

I don't think the bottom adjuster is a weight - it's a way of setting the face open or closed to help with fade or draw bias...but I'm darned if I know how this one works.

The middle two weights is a simple method of shifting discretionary weight from the front to the back of a club - splitting the weights in two (a heavier and lighter one) gives more options in how the weight is distributed from front to back...allowing the possibility of fine tuning the launch and spin.

Not a million miles from the M1 eh?

Having had a second look at it, I'd say the bottom plate simply acts in the same way the TM R1 and R11 did by setting the face angle when soled at address - nothing new here. There also seems to be pockets available left and right of the face for weights to further enhance draw and fade tendency. Again, nothing new here either.

Looking at the shape of that white plate that adjusts the face angle, makes me wonder why?? I would think that there is always the possibility of catching the ground on "less than perfect" swings, and that might be bad with a driver that has a protrusion on the bottom of the club.  Especially one that is shaped like that..

I'm sure that the design engineers have thought about this, and I am reading too much into it...

The one thing that I do know is that this driver had better be really good to overcome all of that crap on the bottom...

But do you actually notice the crap since its on the bottom? For that matter it's a Mizuno driver will anyone actually notice it when it comes out period? :)

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

the more adjustability the better in my opinion....more chance to dial in to settings that work your swing

Most consumers first look at a driver is the sole while it is in the rack.  If this driver really performs, then it should sell. The issue will be overcoming the initial shock of all of that "stuff" on the sole.

Yeah not a huge fan of Mizuno drivers. They sound awful and feel clanky on impact. Not sure about this model, but I hope it's not like previous models.

Some adjustability yes, like loft, draw neutral or fade settings, anything beyond that I'm not a fan of I just want to grip it and rip it or I try at least.

Looks like the JPX EZ driver will have a price drop soon! It's easy to talk down the price already but this should help even more! Nothing like unpopular drivers that I enjoy hitting!!

I guess it "almost" official, any thoughts on these? I've played with the Mizuno JPX 850 irons and they performed relativity well, but moved onto Taylormade's PSI's and it helped me with extra distance to make a difference to me.  Does boron really matter?

I can't wait for the new Mizuno gear to become available to the masses! I was a big fan of the JPX850 hybrid and fairway, as well as the irons, so I'm looking forward to these.

Only criticism I've got on the appearances are that the fairway wood, at least underneath, looks like the unholy marriage of the driver and the hybrid. It looks a bit Frankenstein-esque!

Driver: Cobra F9 Speedback (9.0) with Fujikura Atmos 7X (Avalanche White)

3 Wood: Callaway Epic Sub-Zero (15 degrees) in Rogue Max 75g stiff shaft

Driving Iron: Wilson Staff Utility Iron 18 degree with KBS Hybrid Stiff shaft
