So I just got back from a trip to Europe and while in London I had 1 free day to golf. I found a course recommended by a family friend in the borough of Barnet. The Shire was designed by Seve Ballesteros and was only £55 on a weekday tee time.

This is looking out just above the putting green.

 

The course is awesome and is set up 6-6-6, meaning there are 6 of each par for a total of 72. The holes are also a collection of links, parkland and American golf. That being said I won't lie this course is HARD! The club had just had their championship so the conditions were insane, fast greens and very long rough.

 

Overall the experience was amazing, I expected the atmosphere to be a bit snuffy but the members and staff were all amazingly welcoming and friendly. Of course in true London style we had some rain...

I would highly recommend this course to anyone in the area. Club rentals are available as well. Was a very fun round, shot an 88!

It was gorgeous and not as expensive as I thought. Don't get tracks like this in Oklahoma.

If you stayed in London, what was your mode of transportation? My wife and I go to London/England countryside often. When in London I am limited to public transportation. I have played a local municipal course and take the tube and bus to get there. The course is nice, they do have a animal problem digging on some greens and bunkers. The loaner clubs are so so. I have also played in the Lake District, Cornwall and a nine hole municipal course in Tumbridge Wells. We plan on returning to the south of London and while my wife is with a women’s walking week, I’ll be playing golf. No plans confirmed yet, but will report after we get back.

For our trip out to the golf course we took a taxi, bit expensive to be honest. We stayed at Duke of Leinster near Bayswater great location, loved it.
