Have you looked at utility irons, or more iron-like clubs like the TM DHY?

I’ve thought about it. Need to hit them. My big issue is I get a lot of benefit from the launch and height of a hybrid so I’m not sure I’d get the same height out of the more iron like profiles. I tend to hit long irons low.

Yeah, I hear you, really think the DHY in particular is worth a look.  No problem hitting it high, but it can be flighted low when you need it...plenty of built in help but still some workability.

Stilll thinking about Hybrids, or well the Hybrid spot in my bag.  I hit an absolute gem of a second shot after a poor drive on a par 5 on Sunday.  It ended up going 210 with a high draw out of the rough.  The only problem was it drew about 10-15 yards more than I felt like it should have, and nearly missed the left side of the fairway and would have been lost down a 15 foot rock wall.

A few holes later I was using it off the tee on a short downhill dogleg left, set up down the right side of the fairway to allow for the draw and BOOM!  Blocked it right.  It's not terrible for me, I just feel like there's a better fit out there for consistency.

... piggy backing on getoffmylawn, the DHY looks like an iron at address if you ignore the back of the club but performs very much like a hybrid. It really is a cross between a hybrid and a driving iron giving you the advantages of both but the downside of neither. It naturally wants to launch high and land soft but can be flighted down when needed. Easy to hit from the fairway or light rough and it is absolute money off the tee. It really is my favorite club because it is so versatile.

... It occupies a traditionally revolving spot In my bag replacing many hybrids and DI’s I have played and rotated depending on course or conditions. It is just silly long, especially off the ground for 2nd shots on par 5’s but when I absolutely have to find a fairway or need something other than a driver I am hitting my DHY. Granted a true DI will launch lower into a strong wind and a true hybrid will dig a ball out of deeper rough with more success, but those are two extreme uses for either club.

Everyone’s bag is different, but I split the baby and went with a 4 utility iron and 3 hybrid... it’s good to have the options off the tee and out of the woods and rough... each one gets used for a variety of punch shots...

I wish I hadn’t gotten my 4 utility long, though... it’s a 3/4 extra and I could have gone standard... choking up is fine most of the time, but sometimes I wish I could choke up more... oh well.

if I can sort out my 3 wood slot I’ll be done with clubs until I convince myself to drop money on new irons... I’m happy with my cmbs but the forged faces show wear quickly... (I bought them in like new condition last season). I spent 25 years playing cast irons that still look great, so seeing wear spots develop is hard!

it would probably be easier if the wear spots were where they are supposed to be!

... No doubt one of the most interesting slots in anyone’s bag. There are just soooooooo many great options depending on need and skill level. I have seen all hybrids played very well and only DI‘s that also work well but one of each just seems ideal if you have room in your bag for both. If we could play 15 clubs I would love to have a similar lofted DI and longer shaft hybrid to take full advantage of their differences.

Yeah, since I like the launch of my hybrid for hitting greens, I often wonder if I should have swapped the order of the two.. I don't love hitting my 4 utility into greens... it's OK, just not ideal.

I think it's a fun few slots... I've been without a 3 wood for a bit and it really only hurts me on 1 hole... I'm still planning on getting a 3 wood, but might eventually replace it with a 4 wood...

Posting via my phone so hopefully the pictures aren’t crazy big.

Borrowed an epic max ls head to try with my current ventus blue shaft and compare directly against my mavrik sub zero. One thing I noticed hitting outside versus the hitting bay. It sounds extremely tingy compared to the more solid sounding mavrik. Was a bit put off by this but it wasn’t the worst sounding Nike Sasquatch esq. the shots on mishits did “seem” to spin less and have a bit more penetrating flight. This would be the main reason I would consider upgrading.

I have been contemplating the 2 wedge (3 if you include PW). Would allow me to game a 2 iron without sacrificing the 7 wood or 4 iron for CC5

I switched a few years ago to a 52 and 58 from 52, 56, 60.  I don’t particularly like the shape of the 58, I would bend a 56 weak one.

it really simplifies things.  The 56 and 60 pretty much went the same distances.  I can open the 52 up and hit a flop if needed.

I also did it for the top end.  3 wood, 2 hybrid, and 3 iron... but it is time to replace the 3 iron with some sort of hollow head driving iron style.  I’ve never been great with woods, so I’m more comfortable with the iron shape.  If they’d make a 12° driving iron I’d give it a try to replace the 3 wood.  Haha.

edit: I do have a Voke 48° that I plan to work in as a “pitching wedge”... around the green.

Starting to consider a new fairway wood with adjustable loft. I’m currently playing 15* & 19* but rarely use the 19* on the courses that I usually play. Not really a NEED but definitely a WANT so I might just have to schedule a fitting to see what I think of the new stuff out there.
