What equipment are you thinking about?

Couple of things I'm thinking about right now include:

New putter grip, maybe a touch bigger than my stock SIK grip, but not anything crazy. Just feel like I'm a bit too steery on short putts.

A new iron set. I still like my G710's but there is a part of me that feels going to something a bit smaller and more "playery" would help me. Likely the Player distance category or perhaps a split set with utility irons at the high end and something smaller to fill it out. The confidence in my swing is back so maybe it's time to take off the training wheels so to speak.

Don’t know what grip you have, but I went smaller grip and lighter grip pressure to let the club work.  My putting struggle is face control on shorter putts as like you I try to steer and struggle with the shorter movement of the putter.  Don’t know what what type of tempo you have in you stroke, but a quicker tempo might also help take out the steer.

I have actually! Everyone here has raved about Sub 70, and rightfully so. I checked them out a few times, there's something about the looks that just don't quite jibe with me, I tend to like the black/darker backs with a defined silver top line to make me think I'm hitting an iron, not a hybrid.

That was also a consideration I've had. I've always been a touch better with thicker over thinner, but I'm going to reach out to the CC guys who put it together, ask for specs on the Stock SIK grip, which I believe is made for them by Pure I think(?) then maybe go test at a grip store for feel. What thinner grip do you recommend @cnosil? I'm looking maybe at Scotty grips perhaps for thinner but I guess it depends on the SIK grip specs.

I didn’t know what you were using. I went from a SS 2.0 to just a normal midsize type grip.  Probably wouldn’t go down to a Ping man thin grips as that would really be the next size down for you.

Gotcha, I think it might just take some trial and error as well so to a place with a decent grip selection I go.

My "thinking about" list is used stuff; a different 3w or re-shaft my G400, a ball retriever (get them before there's a shortage ), loft/lie machine, and a project rebuild set of irons which might be TS1 or TS2, Bridgestone J series, or ???

I know we've had this conversation before, but have some new, additional thoughts. I've been pleasantly happy with the Recoil 110 F5 in my new Cobra 4 Utility. Gets the ball up easily, especially combined with the head design. Much easier to hit than the Sub70 699 4 iron/MMT combo. Feels just a touch more active to me, I think the bend point is slightly lower and that's probably the reason. Weight is right around that 110 gram mark that I get along so well with.

Realistically believe I could play the Recoils instead of the MMTs. Has me itching to try PX Catalysts now though, too. Bonus points to the Recoils as they are almost half the price of the MMTs ($43 vs. $75 for .355). But the MMTs look better in the bag.

I was thinking exactly the Recoil 110 F5 and have not heard back from the fitting and close to blind buying them. Dynamic golds have no feel right no too, since I am much more aggressive with the driver but more deliberate with the irons so I was thinking up a flex to match similar stiffness but the Recoil overall should have more feel. Just looking to re-shaft my Ping i500s so hoping to keep it closer to 600 in the total price though given grips, ferruels, shafts, and labor that might be a bit low.

Also remind me you got yours to swing weight out in the D2 is range right, hoping to go slightly lighter in grip to keep swing weight close and maybe add a quarter inch to bump swing weight up a bit as I just added lead tape to my 6 iron to get it around D4 and that has felt much better than the D1 it was at. Again spit balling here.

The recoils are designed to swing weight out to same as steel. In some heads they will actually swingweight out heavier like they did in my miura. In my 716cb they were right on with the amt white with only the 6i needing a piece of tape since the shop didn’t have any tip weights

That is a plus then might just need to switch down from the the MCC +4 to MCC which should drop about 8 grams in the grip and would be close at D3/D4.

The Sub70/MMT combo came out all around D4, plus or minus a swingweight or so on each side. Through trial and error I've found D4 to be right around the best weight for me as well, and I go up to D6.5 in the wedges.

Not sure what the 4 Utility is at. Specs says D1, but I haven't measured it to confirm. Feels OK as is. 

The 3 Utility/MMT Utility shaft combo specs out at like D6 right now and I need to trim 1/2 inch to get that down to a more playable weight. Haven't had much use for it this season as I've only played a handful of rounds where I would have wanted it instead of my 4 hybrid.

The one thing I don’t recall is whether they get cut to longer length than steel or not. In the past graphite used to be longer and it’s not something I looked into with the ust after my visit to their HQ in 2016 and then playing them on and off there. Some of the details we covered in our visit have slipped the old memory bank. I want to say they are the same length as steel tho

On Golf Works at least they list the 0.355 tip Recoils at 37" inch for a wedge shaft and 39.5" inches in the 5 iron so some room to butt trim given a wedge plays at 35.5"

Ok. Those lengths from memory seem to be the same as the px 6.0 shafts in length so you should be good for trimming 

Edit: Confirmed those lengths on the ust site. Also they say butt trim only

I had mentioned earlier in the thread that I was thinking about a new 3/4w due to mine not feeling the same after I did a DIY repair on the shaft. I also had changed out the grip with a Lamkin Sonar, which I got as a promo and it was the only club in the bag with that grip; I've never really felt comfortable with the taper on it. I have a bunch of UTx grips in my closet so I swapped it out, let's see how it feels tomorrow before I go back on the "want a new fairway" train.

I noted that on my build specs and asked my TS fitter about it.  He said the +1/2" graphite = standard steel is no longer the baseline in most cases and largely dependent on which iron head is used.

I've loved to browse this thread since getting here.

There's so much fun stuff to consider.

And yet, if I were to be honest, there hasn't been any REAL NEED for me to consider anything new in equipment for decades.

The manufacturers thrive because we men are simply oversized boys who buy more expensive toys anytime that we're  given the opportunity.  It's in our DNA.

Even then, they don't all thrive.

Dunlop, First Flight, Kenneth Smith, Lynx, MacGregor, PowerBilt, Ram. Spalding, Tommy Armour, Walter Hagen and several others aren't still thriving even with us on the loose.

Meanwhile, Callaway, Cobra, Mizuno, Ping, TaylorMade, Titleist, Wilson, and others remain to tempt us into divorce court vulnerability with their shiny new offerings.

Not much of a story. Doing some training, hit one shot sounded funny. Setup hit a second and sounded worse. So put it down and saw a cracked crown. Taking it to the shop and looks like Callaway may replace it or repair?

@BostonSal the Cobra wedges with the 4* Wide-Low grind option sit tight to the ground too.  The width adds a touch of forgiveness.
