Tom the Golf Nut
I am feeling very weak. I have the urge, no, strong urge, no, incredible desire to purchase the Titleist TSi1 I was fit for last spring. Luckily the golf shop is closed right now! I was holding off due to reviews stating that this driver was designed for swing speeds under 90. I was fit by Titleist and was killing it with the combo they fit me in and my swing speed was just past the mid 90's. But results are what they are. As my local golf shop owner said to me "your not going to get any younger". Well that just made to much dam sense. I know I have a big bonus coming from work. So as soon as it shows up I think I know what my first stop will be. And AP2s are players distance irons yet the AP2 were the number one irons on tour. i20s and i210s are designed as game improvement irons but played by the best in the world on both mens and womens tours. G400 max was played by two of the longest guys in tour in cameron champ and Tony Finau. Doesn’t matter what reviews say especially with the bolded part. It’s another example of why getting fit rather than buying based on what the design is for, the handicap ir swing speed of a player. My fitter a couple of weeks ago would be right up your alley! While I top out at 95mph with my 7i and have a quick transition that has been fit into 130g shafts in the past, his approach was to test how much I could drop in weight before it impacted my performance, as his working theory is that most golfers are playing shafts that are too heavy/stiff for them regardless of age and should play the lightest shaft they can perform with. In my case the heavy shafts helped my transition a bit, but they were creating other problems that were impacting my consistency. I ended up in 120g $ Tapers for my P series combo that gives me more forgiveness at the top compared to my King Forged CBs (790 4i, 770 5-7) along with buttery MCs in the 8-P. dlow206
Having some buyers remorse with the Odyssey Tri Hot 5K. Thought it was going to be an upgrade of the White Hot OG #1 WS that I had previously. It doesn't have the same feel and something is off about this putter and distance control. Thought it was user error. However, just saw the review from Golfalot and Sophie said: "Throughout my testing of the Tri-Hot 5K putters I struggled with pace on the greens and kept hitting my putts too hard and past the hole. I also didn’t hole a single long putt (putts from outside 15 feet) during testing, this is rare as I wouldn't call myself the best putter in the world but usually I roll a few long ones in during a putter test." Luckily, i have my Ping PLD fitting coming up in less than a month so that I can get the exact feel and design for a putter that i am looking for.
