Graphite isn't just for the older golfer with aches and pains.   Graphite shafts in irons can be equal to or better than steel in many cases.   Do you question graphite in driver, fairway woods, hybrids?  The only drawback would be cost.

Cost is really the biggest drawback for me. Shelling out probably close to 800-1k just for irons with steel and then add the up charge for graphite can be a kick in the pocket book

Why go older model when the current 0211 are some of the best irons in the market and cost less than everyone. Plus they offer several good options in the graphite market

I have no problem looking at them. My eye just fits for of the gen 4 offerings. From doing a little research the fitting process seems affordable and I do have a local rep. Looking at the heavier graphite iron options it looks like it’s limited to the aero tech 115. Everything else seems to be in the 75-80g range. That’s what the fitting process is for though!

Thinking of some new irons. Been losing some distance and I haven’t had enough time to practice so using blades no matter how much they fit my eye has been keeping me from breaking 90. I don’t think it’s the shaft I enjoy what I hit and I don’t get any whippy feelings like I have in other shafts. I do believe that it’s time to suck it up and buy something that fits my game better no matter how much I enjoy looking down at blades.

I haven't played blades in a coons age as my game is not suited for those type irons .   I will say once I figured out my Cleveland irons I have been totally swept up with em.   I started out with the Hy-wood and then the snow ball fell down the mountain with me becoming a Cleveland homer......   These irons have a soft almost forged feel off the face and distance I'm getting is eye opening. Hopefully you can find something that will give you the confidence you need to move to the next level in your game.

OG good to hear from ya. I’m looking at players distance clubs maybe sub70 I had great luck with the hybrid I tested of theirs. I’m going to do a fitting soon for irons to see what shaft to go with something like that.

I'm loving my new CLK 4 hybrid so much I'm looking to add the 5 hybrid. I haven't had any luck finding the same shaft on the used market, so I may have to spring for a new one.

Brought this old friend out today and well, it was a convenient solution for the time being. The friendly flight I was always a fan of and in contrast, certainly rose to the occasion.

I won’t be selling the SIM2 but I also won’t be playing it for a while. It may have been longer but the g400 ballflight was everything I missed. Tighter dispersion and it would climb and then just soar at a lovely altitude.

I’d say explore other shafts to dial in the Ping but that g400 was the final edition of that particular shaft tip and I don’t want to mess around with that.

So for the time being, this is taking the place of what I was thinking about.

Still the best driver Ping made IMO.  Even though I like my G410, it’s just not quite the 400

Looking for a new driver. While I love the Cobra F8, I think it's time to look into something newer that can give me a bit more distance.  Could be the shaft I'm using in the F8 but I figure I might as well see what's out there.

Excuses are why we need a sense of humor!

Working on a new swing:  Nope! Still working on new swing; can it be called an old swing now?
Back/knee/shoulder injury:  Back always hurts; Doc says my other knee needs to be replaced.
New clubs:  Yep!  3 new FW since last year; 3W, Heavenwood, 9W
Different shaft:  Nope!
Need new grips:  Nope!  Got my tried and true Pure DTX midsize.
Just started lessons:  Will start with Monte after my hitting bay addition to my house is complete.
and the old standby ... Drank too much!:  Probably just the opposite!  Kinda quit this year.

Funny you should mention shoulder injury.  @Thin2win's wife was going to play, but she just injured her shoulder and surgery is likely.

I'm rebuilding my golf swing and bag right now.  I've used the same clubs (except for driver) since I was young and thin.  My swing is essentially the same now that I'm old and fat, but it needs some serious work.  After a few tries, I've broken 100 and haven't shot over it again.  At my best, I'm in that 85-95 corridor.

I've got my eye on :Sub70: 699/699 pro combo set for irons.  The BH-5s I'm playing have been solid, but since my swing speed is still pretty fast (100-115 with driver), I'd like to take advantage of technology for some extra yards.  This will happen within the next 3-6 months.  I'm also starting to eye up their 3-woods as I currently don't have one.

After that, I'll be looking at replacing my 30-year old :ping-small: putter.  Finally, after some much needed instruction, I'll decide on a driver that I can hit straight.  Distance doesn't interest me as much as accuracy. The Epic driver I have now works just fine since I literally have no idea where the ball is going to go.

By next summer, I'd like to have a complete bag of clubs that I love.  Then maybe a new bag.  Yeah, that's the ticket.

I’m going to be booking an iron fitting coming up I want to see which irons I will play best. I definitely want to go the players distance route especially since it’s the half way between the blades I play now and game improvement irons. I kind of want to hit the t200 and the other game improvement irons

Not really thinking about new irons, but wanted to hit the Callaway Rogue ST Max irons, and I was at Roger Dunn in Santa Ana, so i was like a kid in a candy store. Man, those things have a thick top line, which i don't think is a bad thing, but holy cow are those things thick. I play JPX 921 Hot Metal which are definitely GI irons, but those Rogue ST Max and Max OS irons are a whole new level thick.

No, i didn't buy anything. Won't buy new irons until I see whatever the new Mizuno GI iron and Ping GI irons are for late 2022 or 2023.

Man I might be boring but please indulge me here. As most of the old timers know I am not much into newer stuff. I was reading and thinking this AM what do I need? I guess I am lucky I have won so many Srixon balls I do not need any. Bags amongst other things I am a bag ho. But I am thinking seriously about pulling the trigger on a new Jones original. Actually my wife is encouraging me because as she says I have not bought myself anything new and nice for a long time. Clubs of all kinds I have a plethera of. With my memory bad due to the hit on my head during my accident I have forgotten some of the stuff I do have. Good Example the Muirfields I am now playing I forgot I had and that they have regular shafts too. They are in pristine condition and for me like finding new clubs. I am getting healthy enough sans my bad knee to start cleaning the hoard out so Lord knows what I may find that I forgot about.
