For those that are so inclined, I just got the following email from sub70. IMG_0699.png.499cc55dda275d8ebf59100405ba8f93.png

Don’t know a ton about these, but this price for used forged irons is hard to beat, much less brand new sticks.

Not in a position to buy new irons (daycare is expensive) but good to know there are good options like this out there. I think I dropped almost triple that on Apex CF16s when they were new.

As usual putters.   Went to the golf store today to see if they had anything new in their used club section.   Didn't see anything that I could live without,  but tried a few shorter putters and liked the feel so I came home and cut down a putter to see how it works.

Reading the ongoing LAB putter test thread got me 1.) looking into a LAB Mezz.1. Intriguing, but quickly ruled out because I’m not ready to drop $450 on a putter, at the moment. 2) Searching the pre owned sites for a center shafted mallet, that might allow me to give this style a try without the heavy financial commitment. 3) giving serious consideration to this:

IMG_0714.png.2e5a714a8556731b7483673509e1f561.png

As most of you are aware the CPO site is a gold mine for used gear at temptingly reasonable prices.

I haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but I am thinking about it.

I was at Golf Galaxy over the weekend and right below all of the locked up Scotty Cameron's 😆 were these LAGolf putters.

I thought they looked pretty interesting and some had this unique swirl finish on the head. Tried them out and man do they feel good!

..and then I noticed the price tag! 🤯 Couldn't believe the Scotty's (which are cheaper) were locked away but these were just sitting out. 🤦‍♂️

Anyhow - if you get a chance give one a roll. Some interesting designs and one odd hosel design that I noticed.

Been practicing with the cutdown putter and it seems to be working fairly well based on data I collected for my ExPutt.

Going to try and bed it a little more upright tonight.   I say try because HQ has a loft lie machine, but unfortunately not mounted so we are going to try and clamp it to the bench.

Might even become my gamer for this weekends outing.   😁

I am currently rocking the Cobra Snakebite (2021) wedges in my bag. Although they have fared well for me, I am looking to replace them with a new set of wedges (50, 54, 58). There are a couple of reasons that I am looking to upgrade - 1) The snakebite wedges have a very sleek chrome finish, however, the reflection that you get off of the sun is blinding, 2) I don't feel as confident with my sand wedge around the greens and am looking for something with a higher toe that allows more playability, and 3) I am always looking for new equipment and the wedges that I have in mind are absolutely beautiful.

The wedges that I am thinking about are the Sub70 TAIII wedges. I want the black finish, as those just look absolutely stunning. They also improved their groves to enhance spin, and my current lob wedge is starting to lose some spin (easily has over 100 rounds played). I have really liked the reviews that I read online, as well as the review from MyGolfSpy headquarters. Also, look at the absolute beauty of these wedges.

So, went back and forth Edison or Vokey Wedges. Finally decided to pull the plug on the Vokey Wedges. Wanted the grind/bounce to match my game and conditions. Went with a 54/D grind and 60/M grind. Since I was already committed I did a custom order with all black and snow effect skulls in white. Need some personalization at times!

I’ve been curious because there are a couple putters I really like but no ability to customize an order.  I feel I need a putter with a slight toe hang (15-20deg) and ~2 deg upright (72*).  Does bending to increase the lie angle upright affect the toe hang?

Bending a putter will slightly influence the to hang.  Generalizing,  Toe hang is influenced by where the shaft would intersect the face of you drew a line straight down the shaft and into the head.  See the upper left image in the picture below.   The closer to the heel the more the toe drops, center would be face balanced, and closer to the toe would decrease toe hang.

If you change the lie angle by a few degrees is moves that intersection point closer or farther from the center which will change the toe hang by a few degrees.   So in your example, if the stock lie angle is 70 and you make it 72, the intersection moves toward the heel so to hang would increase by a few degrees.

Still toying with the idea of putting a 4w back in the bag for tighter tee shots. I ditched my 3w because I'd go 3-4 rounds without ever touching it, but now and again I miss having something between the driver and the Hywood for tee shots.

The 60M is a great all around grind/bounce combo, have played an M since it’s inception in all sorts of lofts. At 8* of bounce, it’s awesome in all conditions…for me.

Thank you - makes sense now!  I have been trying out various putters to replace my forever Ping blade resulting in 2-3 3 putts forever.  I was convinced I really liked the blade look but started to like mid mallet look and feel better.  I recently tried the Odyssey double wide which is slightly less than 20* TH.  Actually have used it 3 rounds.  At this point, I’d prefer more mid mallet look, but results have been great.  Yesterday was my first clean round with 0 3 putts.  I do feel I have to set up an inch farther away that I’d like to get the right balance and viewpoint tho.

I also like the Ping DS72 and Shea, and like the look better but have only been able to hit in the stores 2 hr away.  Ping putters are customizable wrt lie angle.

All Putters can be bent to some degree.   This is the challenge of putters and finding one that works for you.   Keep in mind that putter it’s the same toe hang may not perform the same.   Weight also influences how a putter rotates through the stroke; a little more weight slows down rotation and a little less may speed it up.   Like full swing clubs the looks and feel influence how we swing the putter and ultimately how they perform.

Yup, weight is important.  I seem to putt better when weight is below 350g and closer to 340g.

Do you or anyone at HQ know what happens when the loft of the putter is bent to 0º?

I've found a putter that I want to reduce loft so I can try the Kuchar right arm lock stroke.

And I putt better when the putter head weight is closer to 400g.

Man, we are all different, that’s why there’s so many clubs & putters out there!
I cut down a Flanagan 330gr to slightly under 33” and ruined it.  It was 35” and need to bring it back to 34”.

...not to mention counterbalancing!

I have a longer shaft (38") that I choke down on with a 375g head but the shaft is counterbalanced so it doesn't "feel" as heavy as it did when it was a standard 34" putter.

I tried that briefly and didn’t work for me but does for some people.
